I'm probably going to get shot at for this, but i don't have any problem at all with it,so don't take it wrong girls.
But why are there so many female fans at Panthers and basically most ice hockey games. Have a look around the arena next time and i would say,at least 50% of the crowd if not more is girls and women.
It just seems strange to me,i can't think of another male played sport where this would be the case.

Perhaps because UK hockey has a less 'macho lad' following like football has, maybe they feel safer and less intimidated than other sports?

Interesting that you say UK hockey, as that has certainly not always been the case elsewhere. A woman I knew when I used to work in Prague found it hard to comprehend I was a hockey fan as I was intelligent, educated and knew about things like history, literature and the like - in the Czech Republic at that time (1990s) hockey fans had pretty much the same laddish reputation associated with football terraces in this country. I think you're right about UK hockey in terms of having less of that kind of feel about it. Also perhaps it's more of a place to go as a couple or mixed group of friends than other sports (which tend to traditionally be where a bloke goes with his mates). And because it's always been more of a family-friendly sport, many women have been going since childhood (my sister being a case in point, as she started going when she was 4 and is now a ST holder 30 odd years later). As I alluded to in my previous post on this thread, personally I don't have a problem with anybody of any age or gender being at hockey matches, provided they are there first and foremost to watch a sporting contest and appreciate the game itself.

I know it's cheesy as hell but how about having the odd "theme" night?
e.g. An 80's night. Encourage people to dress awfully and have the music from that era accordingly.

We advertised on the newest Panthers fan group for a load of us non ST holders to buy out Block 11-13 against the Storm and that's one of the reasons why the Great Escape kept going for an entire two minutes during the PK's. I think we had over 300 of us sitting in that block and others who had already bought tickets. It was very loud in block 13 and we could tell various fans from other blocks got involved but towards the last 20 seconds or so, the entire arena joined in and it sounded amazing to me. Yes, the great escape is overused but it's also the one that most people know, children included, so I can see exactly why it is used.
I don't think the cage is the place to get some form of advertisements going, but I would be willing to put in the time & effort to get some buzz going for next season to sit in a specific block with people who want to be part of something like the previous block 18, I'm personally not a fan of block 18 my self because I feel like it needs to be a block central to the arena (block 13/14 or block 6/7) to get backup from other blocks who want to get involved and such. I've been to a couple of Steeler games in which they have a block in a similar place to Block 18 and it sounds bloody awful. They sound like you're listening to music in Mono format with only one earphone attached.
Regardless of what the boys are doing on the ice, we've PAID for our tickets and deserve to go home in a decent mood and I believe the atmosphere of the place can change that. Let's not go into too much detail about interviews from players around the globe in any sport that always mention that the atmosphere in a stadium or arena can be the difference between winning & losing, building up the extra adrenaline and energy because you have 6000+ fans right behind you. I know our arena is capable of it (Squeelers P3 before Christmas) even if it is full of people drinking, dressed up like ruddy floozies and ready to go hit the town after, they WILL get involved if our loud and proud fans show them the way.
I know there are hundreds of fans who feel the exact same way as I do, unfortunately I'm not the one who could get something like this going, that would have to come down to somebody like Jono or an actual Panther employee that can reach out to many more people (i.e Ken). Either way, regardless of the outcome for next season, I refuse to be sitting in the bronze blocks as I'm sick of groups of people who spend their entire time turning around to look at other people in the stands, on their phones taking pictures constantly and doing other poo poo during the game, I'd rather be sitting with actual hockey/panthers fans who can't take their eyes off the match and actually join in to create the atmosphere!

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your post, but the point I highlighted above I can't ignore. I pay my money too, so I also deserve to go home in a decent mood right? So if sitting there quietly watching the hockey makes me happy then I will continue to do so. I don't understand why you think everyone else is responsible for your personal entertainment. If you want to start chants have at it. I have no desire to make your night more fun, so you can go home with a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach.

Well said, I am also a Block 9 (Bronze seating) regular phone user too. Also my good mood that I go home in is also largely attributed to what the boys are doing on the ice, and not what a few hundred or a few thousand people chanting do in the stands. I go to watch ice hockey, not listen to people shouting.

...I refuse to be sitting in the bronze blocks as I'm sick of groups of people who spend their entire time turning around to look at other people in the stands, on their phones taking pictures constantly and doing other poo poo during the game... Way to tar all the bronze blocks with the same brush. As someone who regularly sits in Block 11 (and until I started my current job, had a season ticket there) I don't recognise this description of that bronze block at all. I decided upon Block 11 for many reasons. Firstly it has a similar view to my family's season ticket seats in the Joe Louis Arena. Secondly, I tried other areas of the arena but frankly either the acoustics were terrible, or the people sat around seemed lifeless (I won't name what blocks other than they were the more expensive ones). Thirdly the people sat around my usual seats in Block 11 seem to actually understand hockey. I rarely hear them shouting "shoot" on the PP nor bemoaning good calls or clean hits. As for the best place to position people who are more inclined to make some noise, acoustically speaking the corners are best, if you want the sound to carry.

All i'll say is that different things make people happy. Standing, chanting and singing is fine for you, but not for everyone. Keep that in mind.

I remember a survey of all 92 football league clubs found that Forest had the highest ratio of female fans, something like 40% I think.

The atmosphere was certainly better when we first came 3 years ago. We usually used block 10 & walking into the arena from the foyer a few minutes before the players came out used to make the hairs on my neck stand up such was the ambience. It picked up last year with block (18?) but I've heard some killjoy stamped it out (something to do with seat pricing I heard).Blocks 11 and 12 get going sometimes & generally the bronze blocks are a better atmosphere. We've moved to silver last 2 seasons for a better view & did find it a bit more staid. Like others we have noticed more and more casuals, seems to have grown in popularity as a pre town bevvy occasion. For all 4 goals last weekend around 50 odd didn't stand to celebrate or even clap politely! We need a dedicated block as they have up the M1, was very impressed on my first visit there. Can't see happening though as at present it's all about ringing the tills.
