I agree, there were the usual quiet spells but by and large I thought the crowd picked up and sustained chants better than normal and, shouted down the away fans well too.

The atmosphre was ok yesterday and about as good as it ever will be for a Christmas Steelers game when for a lot it's the only game they go to every year. The intro music was great too (although it had a lot of the older people sitting around us baffled).
You have to remember that for years the home games for us have been marketed as family games and dumbed down compared to a lot of the other teams. The ice skaters in the first interval, nothing at all in the second interval. You only have to go to a few away games a year to see that our games are a million miles away from most others with regards fun, audience participation and connecting with the fans. If you are set up to cater for the 60 year old + in the audience it's pretty difficult to engage the younger fans too. Like a lot of fans we go to a lot of away games and in a lot of cases it's like walking into a different game experience completely.
The home games on a saturday night are really just part of a Saturday night out experience for a lot before going onto pubs and clubs in town. I don't think a lot even knew we were playing the day before at all. Plenty of goals and a few fights and everyone is happy. The atmosphere is quite often a lot better midweek.

What happened to the shoot the puck competitions in the breaks?
I know two people that took part and probably would again.

The 2nd time with the new way of announcing the players tonight. Have to say I absoloutly hate it(Sorry Ken). So Cheesy and Cringeworthy. Whats more it completley takes away the noise of big cheers as the players come out. Don't mind it when announcing a gaol scorer. Not for the intro's.

It would rather help if they turned the music OFF when they did it though......just a helpful thought !

Unfortunately whereas I think ken does a great job, the music in the third period completely baffled me!
We need to crank up the atmosphere and we get sweet Caroline.

I couldn't hear what Ken was saying over the music, but luckily I'm at the front of block 17 so I could see them before they step out. I think he's on to a winner, just needs some refinement. Maybe get their faces on the big screen?

Appreciate the feedback Last night was an interesting night from a DJ perspective. I was thinking right, what can I play/say at 4-0 down which will not result in me being pelted with rotten eggs!! As you may know, during the game I try to keep up to date with Twitter and respond to requests (within reason) where I can... Sweet Caroline is a track that I am sure is hated by some who find it cringeworthy. However it had been requested multiple times (even in the first) and I thought it may spark some life in to the crowd as I know that there is a large element who will join in. I agree that it is not rip your head off aggression building music but then I have to cater for all 6000+ tastes... You will note that the largest cheer/energy of the night came in the second as we started putting in some Big hits and surging forward... If only I had a button on my laptop that could make this happen... Out of interest have you got some song suggestions/playlist recommendations? I am always keen to add to the song bank Cheers Ken

TB fair it was a suggestion from someone on here hence why I tried it... Jordanooooooooooooooooooooooooooo do you have any suggestions which might work...?? Or any playlist recommendations? Happy to take on board some ideas Cheers Ken

I've said it before and I'll say it again the music is fine apart from some of the more dated stuff, the issue is the average age of the fans who are more likely to sit and clap and watch the game then get up and get loud. We need a barmy army in a block who get things going. I studied at NTU and the varsity game has the most electric atmosphere because there's genuine hate for the uni of nott'm team. We're too nice with welcoming he other team on the ice, asking their fans for a cheer ect ect. Forget about them, forget their fans they're irrelevant. Something needs to be done to put some fire back into the building.

On the whole I think you do a fine job, I would prefer more aggressive & inspiring sounds to get the crowd going but with the eclectic mix of people who attend I understand you have much to cater for. I like the heavy metal pre-game theme, that certainly helps. Think we've overdone the 'Seven Nation Army' theme now though a little. Do you have any involvement in the intro vid/set up?

I have only been to a couple of varsity games (quite a while ago) but they are pretty much what the club would have us think the Sheffield games are but for real plus the crowd is a *lot* younger.

There are ways to get the crowd going & improve the match day experience but with the megalomaniac ownership/GM the Panthers have I can't envisage the shackles ever being released enough for this to occur. As said previously, I think you do a fine job with what you're working with & it's great to see you in the fans forum & be so open to discussion.

The music has been great the last few games, the rockier sounds really suit the sport and certainly get me more pumped up. Loved the fact that Bodies by Drowning Pool was played at the Sheffield game.

Something needs to be done to put some fire back into the building. Mostly because at a Panthers game, it isn't full of children. There is a large contingent of older people at panthers games who don't go to the varsity game.

I always think Coventry play a good range of music when I go there. They must have a similar demographic in terms of age range.

What happened to the lads in block 4? I think they moved across to block 13 at one stage but I have not heard them recently, they helped to keep the atmosphere going, and what about the "barmy army" chants , I first heard these in France in our pre season about 18 months ago and it was loud as most of us joined in and all the French supporters just stared at us as we sang until our voices gave up. I don't know what the answer is at the NIC, but I honestly thought the block 4 lads did us proud and I hoped that they would increase in numbers to at least give the steelers,Devils, and blaze fans a run for their money. Like on previous posts, maybe it's the huge age gap of our supporters, but even myself at 52 would like to join a block of enthusiastic supporters to give some life into the arena and give the away supporters a run for their money as at times it does get a bit drab and try and put a bit of life into it when things are not going our way. Just while Iam on here, I think Ken does a good job, he's trying different music and ideas, it's us who let him down at times

I quite like the introductions actually, but I do agree that the music probably needs turning down as it happens. I think that's something you need to give a few goes to, if the majority joined in I reckon it'd sound pretty good. Maybe that'll never happen, but for me it's worth persisting with for now.

The Varsity games would not get the same crowds and noise if they were played every week. It's not really comparable.

Plus the varsity games presumably have a fairly even split of fans in the arena.
Imagine 3500 Steelers fans in blocks 1-9 and 3500 Panthers fans directly opposite in blocks 10-19.......Wow that would be some atmosphere.
