For some reason block 12 had multiple Blaze fans in, hearing "What a goalie" shouted behind our ears every time they made a save actually made my girlfriend want to punch him and she's not a violent person in the slightest. More on topic; I don't think early face offs are good for atmospheres and games that are marketed around New Years/Christmas always seem to bring out the beer brigade who don't clap and hold a cup in their hand for the entire match. There was a group of 5 guys next to us who actually got involved in the pre-match singing/clapping and then went for beer when the period started, I was actually baffled!
The saying of names didn't work last night but I think that's mostly down to the time of face off and fans, it worked perfectly against Sheffield and got everybody in the mood, I don't mind either introduction though. Are you in control of blackout Ken? It didn't start until 14:58 against the Blaze and didn't last very long! I quite like it when we get the full song of Brainbug and most of seven nation army all under blackout. Honestly, I've extensively gone through all teams entrances in the NHL/EIHL and I may be slightly biased but I love the way we do ours and it has more fan interaction than others.
I've said it once and I'll say it again, we NEED a block or two that are advertised as the loud & proud season ticket blocks, those of us who want to start the chants and atmosphere so that others will get involved. There was a SINGLE guy behind me who shouted "Letssssss goooooo pantherssssss" which actually got the loudest chant of the night as everybody else joined in, believe me, we only need a few of those people in ONE single block and we'll be rocking the arena to the core all night long.
Have you seen how our boys respond to the atmosphere in the arena? You can see them literally feeding off the energy and start to do better things on the ice! It's not a nice feeling when your home support is quiet, booing and groaning if a simple mistake is made. Ken can't fix this but if only Gary Moran would listen to us, I've tried to tell him, he gave me the "I'll note it down, thanks".

I think it is easy to get an atmosphere when the team are proactive and we are winning especially in a fight back. It is harder to get the atmosphere going when the team either seem lack lustre or are behind.
I for one, scream and shout and jump out of my seat consistently throughout the game (I am not 21!) but the noise from me alone wont get others up and shouting and to be fair, it wouldnt surprise me if people around me find it annoying. I would love to get chants going but i wouldnt know how! and I usually feel that if i tried that many people would want me to be quiet, and i dont like feeling silly (eg doing the chants on my own) - so i am guessing others might feel the same as me. I join in with all chants i hear. I would happily sit in a chanting block and chant too. PS I am generally shy, but I love the Panthers and find i get quite loud during play.
The intros of saying the surname of the player doesnt work for me. I often wish Ken would start a chant (or use prerecords?) so that fans could carry on. As for drums - we used to go to basketball games (there is only space for approx 500 fans) and then a drummer was introduced - we stopped going because the drum was deafening and we couldnt get away from it.
I agree that the atmosphere seems not to be encouraged by the club\arena eg very little extra done - I think there could be cheerleaders or other groups making noise and encouraging atmosphere around the complex before the the game and during periods, the intro video could be improved, the game board could be used a bit more to initiate chants. I havent been to away games, but i notice that in the away block there is often an instigator who stands up and turns around and conducts the chanting maybe we need a ferw chant conductors? maybe in the intervals we could have some fun crowd rousing activities? maybe we could provide individual clappers\wavey things, horns, bells etc for people to use - and if we wanted to be considerate of certain fans we could limit this to certain designated blocks.
Maybe employ someone to manage fan entertainment and involvement?

Watch when you go to away games and the big "personality" player starts waving his arms at the home crowd to get them behind the team when needed. Cam would be perfect for that. A lot of our bad performances, bad passing etc comes about through nervous players. If CN can't get them stoked up let Cam do it. I remember Sean McMorrow doing this at Dundee in their first season and the home crowd went wild.
Atmosphere comes from the ice upwards so it's bound to be a bit quiet in recent times and to expect the crowd to get loud when the players are serving up dross is never ever going to happen.

The most quiet fans I notice are the younger ones. Fiddling about on phones or talking about where their heading after the game.
I dont care if you playing head banging music till the cows come home if the team are dire on the ice the crowd will be quiet

I don't agree mmmbop. Tonight we played some great stuff, scored eight goals and there must have been at least 5500 there, yet the atmosphere was atrocious tonight.
It has to be a close, hard fought and exciting game for the crowd to get loud at the NIC,the majority of our fans are just lazy, shy or too old i'm afraid.

Could have heard a pin drop most of the game well from where I was sat you could till the goals came. So is rock music the answer??
This age thing I dont agree. All I ever see is people chatting and on their phones from younger fans. To be fair none wore shirts tho some could have been plastics (what I call fans who come once a blue moon and show no interest)
I think noise will come from how the team plays.
I would like to see a better intro tho but that's not down to Ken

But as you said you attend regular and I'm sure you dont sit in total silence There are some people who only come Christmas period and early new year who haven't a clue of league standings, players or even rules I had one say to me once 'Wow its like basketball'!!! Plastics as I call then

It was weird tonight, even when we were 8 - 2 up, it was quiet, but that could possibly be because of previous results and the fact that we are expected to beat the caps regardless of our form, although we scored 8, we didn't have to put much effort in to actually get the win, a lot of our faithful fans actually didn't want to be at the game tonight. Ken tweeted during the game "Is it just me or is it quiet in here tonight?". The game flowed and didn't allow Ken to get involved much in the game.
There was a man in Block 13 - row A, around 50-60~ years old in a white panthers top who sang the entire game and lots of other people got involved, it would be a pleasure to sit near him again, this is why I don't agree with the age excuse when it comes to the atmosphere. I believe things will pick up in terms of atmosphere against better teams like the Giants & Devils and when we've either signed a new netminder or Miika is back from his "break".

Combination of things last night..... No doubt some regulars didn't attend & Caps being blown off the ice. Made for a quiet atmosphere.

Resurrecting this thread!
Although we didn't play exactly great in p1/p3 last night, the atmosphere was the best I've experienced in a non Steelers game, it was nice to see the fans getting involved last night through the PK and it should be like that every game IMO, half of the arena were boring as fudge as usual and stayed quiet but the ones who got involved were brilliant. Looks like the Devils match is shaping up to be a big one next week and I would expect an even bigger atmosphere.
Hopefully the chant last night becomes a tradition at the NIC for both PP and PK opportunities.

Hopefully the chant last night becomes a tradition at the NIC for both PP and PK opportunities. Only really works as a PK chant (theme from The Great Escape). Been done for years but only off and on. Odd that the crowd got going with it last night, considering it wasn't too great a challenge.

Odd that the crowd got going with it last night, considering it wasn't too great a challenge. Personally I think the great escape is in overkill territory now. On the PK at home to Storm who had the worst PP I've ever seen. Were 4-0 up, its hardly a great escape? It was great and very worthy when we came back to win play off quarter finals against Braehead and Fife, then the cup final v Belfast. But to play it at the start of every pk and every break in play on the pk is a bit too much now for me.

The whole match day experience is dead. The team don't even seem bothered half the time. Yesterday's flowers give away was half arsed. A decent turn out mind you....

Do any of the former block 18 guys post on here? We need them back, with or without the clubs support.

If the atmosphere is that bad then the Saturday night crowd wouldn't be coming.
Lots of new fans love it and do come back.
There is more that could be done, but it's not as bad as made out on here a lot of the time.

The issue I see is that there are people who want to shout and get involved but they are spread out across the arena and very few chants seem to get started compared to last season. When they do we can get loud, but it's the huge gaps of silence that gets frustrating and makes the arena a library.

Could we have like a fan challenge in the 2nd break? Get someone on the ice to try and shoot the puck or something
When there's a fight play lets get ready to rumble
Just anything.
We need an update from stuff like sweet Caroline etc

Perhaps they like sitting in silence (or chatting to their mates largely oblivious to the game going on), cheering when we score and doing the Dagger thing, then back to silence/chat til the next time?

I commented last night that the atmosphere is moving further and further away from that of a sporting event, reflected by the actions of increasing numbers of people in the seats - between those there as a precursor to a night in town (wandering up and down the steps to the bar during the game, showing no involvement or awareness of the actual match situation etc.), those for whom the main event appears to be waving their hands about and going "woo" when Ken tells them to, and those who seem to think it's like going to a boyband concert (go all gooey over the players, who of course may not be criticised in any way, and try to get some flowers or a photo with them afterwards).
I'm all for encouraging families and bringing in new fans but it is still actually a sporting contest. But then, even the official website has started advertising games as "the perfect way to start a night out" in its game preview articles so what can we expect.
