We were swizzled off when Schmidt was re-signed.
Here's to hoping that Lawrence comes in like Schmidt has done this season.
Will be quite happy to eat a plate of humble pie if he does.

I can't really understand the criticism of Lawrence.
He's a reasonable scorer who would be expected to get around 25 goals in a full season. He's very strong on faceoffs and whilst he might not hit hard, he gets his body in front of the net.
I don't buy the argument that he's lazy. I think he probably looks lazy because of his skating style and size, but he was often the first forward back on defence for us.
I'm sad to see him leave Sheffield, but whilst some of our supporters seem to be spiralling into despair, I understand the reasons for this decision and don't have an issue with it.
Regards
Doom

Interestingly I just heard that Lawrence asked to leave Sheffield as soon as he spoke to CN so if he want's to come back enough to leave another club (which had been praising him to the hilt for several weeks) I can't wait to see him play this weekend.

Just got back from the gym and one of the slogans on the wall there is "Hard work beats talent if talent doesn't work hard" - couldn't help but think of Chris Lawrence today when I read it. Hopefully the work ethic and spirit of this year's team will rub off on him and he will add a bit of extra work rate to his undoubted talent. No brainer to sign him in the circumstances, and if he can hit the ground running and buy into the approach we have this year there's no reason he can't make a solid contribution, especially as we won't be relying on him to carry our main scoring threat as was the case for most of last season (unfair as that should not have been the role he was expected to fill).

Of course he wasn't. He scored 40 goals for goodness sake. He just shouldn't have come back, certainly not the first to suffer that fate and won't be the last. 37 one season, 16 the next. Ling made him look better than he was. He never used his reach, never checked and was so frustrating to watch. Bet if he wasnt on a line with Ling he wouldnt have got anywhere near 37 goals He got 40+34 from 60 games in his first year. You could just as easily say if Ling wasn't on a line with Graham he wouldn't have got anywhere near his 64 assists. I'm not saying he was a world beater, or that he was much use the second time, but rewriting history to dismiss his efforts in the GS team as those of an average player, something that any old Canuck could've matched because of Ling, is unfair on him. But anyway, gone off topic.

A strange tweet! David Simms Retweeted Clantastic @clantastic Hearing reports that less than 24 hours since he was announced as rejoining Nottingham Panthers, Chris Lawrence is still with the club

After all of his praise over the last few weeks I suppose he has a bit of a red face

Regards Doom Its because people in this country love a worker (the whole plucky Brit thing). Jade Galbraith was the same story undountably gifted, but came in unfit and lazy and was largely disliked because of it. Yet scorced the same amount of points as Ling when he went to braehead. Teams are all about balance you need guys who score, guys who graft and guys who make plays. I think people sometimes forget that you cant have guys that do all of that in our league. Because if they did they wouldnt be in our league . Just imagine if Lawrence have Janssens work rate and effort, that would be a hell of a player way out of our price range.

Shrewd aquisition in the circumstances.
To say ive never been his biggest fan is understatement of the year - his general half-arsed manner and work rate are awful and dont sit well with me at all.
the most frustrating player ive seen in my 10 years of watching.
Having said that i'll be the first one off my seat if (surely it has to be when?!) he scores against Steelers over christmas
Welcome back Chris

Bet if he wasnt on a line with Ling he wouldnt have got anywhere near 37 goals I'd say the year off hockey entirely played a bigger part in the downturn than anything else. Graham is a good goalscorer, Ling helped him to some degree but Ling didn't position Graham and he didn't finish the shots either.

Well this is a strange one, but at the end of the day the guy needs a job & if he was offered one he should take it. I to was under the impression he left under a cloud last season but seeing him back at the testamonial sort of blew that out the water, and speaking to him afterwards I have to say what a great guy. Anyway we are short of bodies going into 3 very tough matches so any extra has to be a positive move. He'll probably have a stormer & score aswell so everyone will be happy.

What's not to like, we needed a centre and one has become available who can contribute on the scoreboard too. I was watching restarts in our own end taken by Lacho with my eyes closed all last weekend!

I'm looking at this as a clean slate for him. I thought he looked good against us for Sheffield when he played. I'm sure he'll fit right in and if not then sort him out a Lego course.

Presumably he has been looking to recruit and Chris lands on his lap. There has been a clamour for injury cover/replacement. Just because it doesnt appear all the time on the website many seem to think the club aren't doing anything and NB isn't investing.

I just don't get it - why can't people see that it's just his style that gives the impression of laziness.

Like CN says in his interview, he's either the best player on the ice or the worst. My fingers are crossed that we see the best this time.

Meh.
In all honesty, I'm finding it hard to get worked up either for or against this signing.
Lawrence was our highest points-scorer on a bad team last season... he produced more than most, but quite obviously could have done better.
If he does better than last season... he'll be a positive addition to the team and there's every chance we'll keep him. Bonus. If he does the same as last season... he'll produce some points, he'll provide a bit of relief in injury cover, and that'll be it. No harm, no foul. If he does worse than last season... he'll almost certainly get shown the door within a couple of weeks. Damage minimised.
To be honest, we've got the depth to survive without him (missing 3 import forwards in Belfast and still icing 17 outskaters (10 forwards and 7 D-men) )... but he should (probable but not certain) be a positive addition to the team to some extent. That'll be enough for me... anything more would be a bonus.
It's all down to Chris Lawrence... let him show us what he can do.
