While it seems a strange one, it's slightly annoying to see other teams in the league chucking the resources around to cover short term problems while we are still sitting here playing 3 imports short. Steelers played with their full 13 imports Sunday with player coach Hay and now Lawrence to add to the depth. Granted we have a stronger Brit pack but a key component of that Brit Pack is now out for a decent length of time. I feel we have been riding our luck defensively meaning the stats for goals against are better than we've played. Sunday a prime example, Flyers must have hit the pipes about 4 times. Those stats I think are seeing us be slightly complacent with our defensive troops which for me are simply aren't strong enough at current. So far we haven't been punished but you feel it's only a matter of time.

We hit the post twice.

Flyers hit the post once. We hit the post twice. Fife hit the bar in the 2nd too big lad.

The law of averages state that he will score again soon.
It also states he will turn over the puck frequently and take dumb penalties.
He won't be with them very long.

Top signing imo. He won't be anywhere near Steeler's top line so could well be very effective.

Sheffield may well use him for purposes positive to them.

That makes 15 imports that Sheffield have now... who is going to sit out? As far as I know, the only injury they have is Dowd, which doesn't impact on their import quota. Seems odd...

It's probably an attempt at a PR stunt by them. In a similar way they tried to sign Simoes.

I actually like Lawrence. If he sorted his fitness be could really pile on the points instead of pounds!

Good start for Sheffield. 1st shift called for elbowing, (Coventry training). Capitals score on power play.

Shuff were 3 down after 9 minutes. Now 3-3 in the 3rd period. Equalizer scored by their new #18

He's got two now. Like I said, put the right players around him and he'll do well!

Missed his penalty shot, just like all the Steelers.

Missed his penalty shot, just like all the Steelers. And Caps win - well done to them, overcame the obstacles against them

The criticism of Lawrence on this forum is embarrassingly laughable. By certain posters in-particular whose hockey knowledge suggests they should know better. I'd almost say there's a grudge against him for some reason.
Fact is he was our top points scorer on what is accepted was a very poor squad. Ok, Doucet would have outscored him eventually no doubt, I accept that.
He'll do great at Steelers, he has a top quality wrist shot finish for our level. Get him on the right team where he isn't top line & isn't expected to be the workhorse he clearly isn't & he'll score points galore.
Providing they keep him, obviously.

Well I would have had him back when Coventry gassed him.

Well I would have had him back when Coventry gassed him. Agreed, definitely. He'd be ideal for this squad.

The problem with Lawrence wasn't that he couldn't deliver... just that, for whatever reason, most of the time he wouldn't. That is, I believe, why so many people had such a problem with him. When there's such an obvious gap between potential and reality - that tends to be annoying.

When there's such an obvious gap between potential and reality - that tends to be annoying. No one could deliver on that team. The squad was majorly screwed up. On a better team he'd score consistent points, guaranteed. I hate to mention Bruce Graham's two seasons but they are pretty apt.

Very frustrating player.
Clearly has bags of talent. Clearly looked (at worse) like he couldn't be bothered or (at best) languid.
One day it will dawn on him that had he had the workrate to match his talent, he'd have made a very serious career for himself, way above EIHL level.

He was consistently playing on a line with Farmer, who a lot of people including myself felt had a good season, and Jacina, who was clearly not at the peak of his game but grafted, could cause problems and had skill in the locker, to me thats a good line, the issue with Lawrence was his attitude, I can remember a number of occasions last year when he wasn't even concentrating on the puck when it was being passed to him, I can't remember him busting a gut for the team or putting the team first, that I feel is the issue that many of our fans have with him and it is why I would never have him back
