Well after hearing the interviews on the website i'm much happier than i was. your right corey sounds like a beaten man, rick on the other hand sounds like he cant wait to grab the bull by the horns. i really hope he is given a proper chance to show what he can do. interested to see what he can accomplish with a larger budget team.

This could be interesting. im very happy with this on the basis that i believe that rick knows what he talking about. always does good commentary and is quick to point out issues with teams. panthers are no different he will know whats wrong and know what needs to change. if nothing happens now i think it will prove that corey is to blame.

How many people on here who dislike Corey because of his 'arrogance', actually know the man well enough (or have even spoken to him), to have this opinion. Sarcasm, and tongue in cheek remarks can often be perceived as arrogance. As bad/frustrating as this recent run of results have been, I do think that with Kowalski between the pipes, we could well have won all of these games. Loads of people have spoken with him actually and more than enough to form an opinion. The player he has missed most of all I think is Sproat. When DS left the whole team changed. I also think that the loss of Sproat has had a huge effect. He wasn't the most Flashy player in the world but he gave everyone around him an opportunity to play well, and forced the pace of the game which is something that we haven't really controlled in recent weeks.

WOW!!! How we didn't beat the clan tonight is criminal, they were very poor. shows just how bad we were. The only guys who can take anything from tonight are Lepine, Myers, Ryan and Heerema (who was amazing.)
Zion, what in the world has happened. shadow of his steeler and early panthers self. couldn't do anything right tonight, miscontrols all over the place and bad passing. Clarke, if your not scoring what do you do? Beauregard, really gone off the boil. still good at getting in position but finishing is now non existent. Galbraith, amazing when you want to be, but you need to get hold of your temper, cause it just ruins your game.
Genuine question, what other team would lose a lead in the way we did tonight?

to be fair no player was really gonna shine in this weekends games were they. i also think he's in a very similar position to Cameron Mann when he started, in that his mind is way ahead of the play and others aren't on the same page. i'll give Heerema a bit more time before grabbing my pitch fork.
also a line with galbraith, ryan and heerema would be scary!

i wouldn't go as far as saying has hasn't learnt much. he has certainly improved his signings each summer imo. and has addressed the lack of quality between the pipes and has signed a much more balanced team this year with centres and stay at home d men who actually do their job. what he hasn't learnt though is the tactical side in a game situation. this results in a team where when it all clicks and works looks unstoppable in games, but when it doesn't has no other tact or direction to take and so they look completely hopeless.

Mike Ellis. Where art thou. I believe if we had kept him until now we would have a title already. his only problem was that he didn't get the right keeper.

i have always been very faithful to corey, I've never called for his head. i'm of the philosophy that you need to give a coach a while to get a solid core for his team and a chance to learn from his mistakes. however my faith is now being tested. my main concern is that we aren't changing. I was very encouraged at our signings this summer we had three centres, something that i've really been crying out for. a very good keeper, another key area that i thought had to be addressed. and most importantly we looked to have signed a team of hard workers and not just a bunch of super stars. however our inability to change tact mid game, CONSTANT ill discipline and shocking powerplay (which imo coincides with the departure of sproat). have me very disappointed. i really though corey was going to be the man to get that, cant win the league monkey off our backs. but i really feel he has had his chance, to only way i want to see corey back next year (unless he brings us the title this year of course) is if he is on the bench full time and signs two import stay at home d men.

For run and gun hockey to be successful you need a defence that at least gives you a chance every weekend. our doesn't always do this. any weekend were your goals against is in double figures counts as a totally failed weekend for the defence regardless of the results imo. you just cant always score 11 or 12 goals a weekend, sometimes it just wont happen! yes you can win a championship with run and gun, IF your defence is up to at least a moderate standard, is our? im not sure it is. whatever tactics you use defence is and always will be the deciding factor.

good post.
i think this one is worst than lepines as he clearly does get perone in the head. what i like though is the way the commentators seen to ignore the hit to the head simply because thornton got in front of him, they obviously seem to think that it was the player getting checked fault and should take responsibility for getting caught out like that. this is the way i think it should be.

I've had it on good authority, as I've stated before, that Panthers won't be allowed to win the league with the current EIHL hierarchy involved as they all hate Panthers too much. Maybe in another 56 years you might believe me... Seriously, stop being so selfish and give up watching for just one week. One Saturday night is all you have to do to send a chilling message to the league. Imagine a Saturday game with a couple of hundred people there. The league would struggle without Panthers, you as the fans have all the power. Now use it before you lose it. And also, stop moaning. I've said time after time the refs will ruin the season. You lot are like a broken record. Steady on, if your horse gets much higher your head will be in the clouds!

He has good rebond control, and makes some tricky catches look very easy. However he is slow post to post and he has let some basic ones in. if he cuts out the silly ones then i think he will be rock solid.

this desision will be made good or bad by who else is signed in defence. so until then i will reserve judgment, but its not the worst place in the world to start a defence.

gettin rid of ellis was a terrible decission. he should never have gone. i honestly believe that if he had stayed we could well be on our way to a league title by now. he had the bottle to make hard decission's which corey's doesn't seem to have all the time. and he had a good defencive mind which corey also seems to strugle with. plus he brought us two trophies in two years after building a team from scratch nearly! deffinitly one of the worst decssions this club has made recently, i'd take him back in a heartbeat.
well i got that one off my chest

Is it just me or does anyone else think that coreys whole approach to the teams structure is off. I know he really wants 3 even lines, but in this league i just don't think thats the best thing. I cant help thinking that 2 great forward lines, 1 grinding line a 4 import defence and a REALLY! good nettie would be a better balance. for example
Galbraith- Mann- Mcasalan Clarke- Richardson- Molin Ferrara - Dalgleish- Levers
Corey- Toneys D'amour- top quality defence man Meyers- Lee
top nettie

Oh what a supprise . panthers loose a game and its all over season. if belfast win then were not in too much danger and all to play for. my god it makes me laugh. shame on the result bit it happens. bring on sheff. who i fear have hit a bit of form and actually could put an end too our season hopes if christmas goes there way. but imo were certainly not out of it yet. perhaps according to the league table we may not but conceding 5 goals every now and then will not win the league. until panthers employ a coach who is defence minded, forget it. should of kept mike ellis if you like defence. Then again should of kept adey. And if we go and get rid of corey, i bet in a few years the cry will be should of kept corey. The point i'm making is that imo one of the clubs main problems in recent years has been not keeping one coach. You can't solve all problems by just throwing money at them, we need consistacy year on year like coventry and sheffield. Though i do agree that losing games to stingrays when you have players like we do is just not on, And yes the leauge is gone for this year. (saddest bit about this is that if coventry, belfast or sheffield were in our possition i would say that they were well in it, but you can't say that about us because you just know we will throw more games away.)

Hows about this if we can't get anyone at short notice, toneys back on defence and you push corey up front as a direct replacment for bergin. i've always been curious as to wether corey could hack it up front and i think he probably could. He'd be quicker than bergin and we know he can pass the puck well, plus he wouldn't get caught short at the back. also this means he could in theory stay on the bench more and get a better look at the game.
i don't think this will happen it's just a thought.
