Ok i'll bite. I dont usually get draw into these sort of discussions but tbh im really tired of the lacho bashing band wagon thats going around this season.
Lacho has never been big in the corners, or type of guy that charges around the ice like a man possessed. What he does give you is as good a pass as any british player in the league, get defensive work in his own end and points.
I agree he has not been on the level that he reaches a few years ago. 1 thing i will say though is that he hasnt been on a set line in a while. Can anyone actually tell me who his line mates are?
Anyone who thinks Ollie should take lachos place needs to look at the big picture. Everyone loves a worker but Lacho offers far more in terms of end product and passing quality. By no means do i think Betteridge is poor but he just isnt a guy who could play on a top line yet. Lacho is, with the right line mates he has proved he can be one of the top brit players out there.
Theres 3 of our other brits that im more concered about than lacho. Lee, Swindlehurst and (unpopular opinion incoming)... farmer. Farmer has great work rate but has had a slow start to this season points wise despite being put on the top line in the first few game (a place earned after last season). I have no doubt the farmer will come good i just find it intresting how some players seem to be immune from criticism whilst other are continuously hounded by parts of our fan base.
In short i agree lacho is in a slump, however is nowhere near as bad as people are making out. And isnt being helped by not being settled into a line.

Oh dear! 2 points is great but losing Shultz is terrible for us. We can hope is looks much worse than it is. But if it does turn out to be bad then we need a replacement.

I fully expect the cage to go into meltdown now. It's not been a good weekend though. If you're serious about winning the league we need to be beating Coventry every game. Without wanting to sound harsh, they've been pretty awful this season and should be free points to the big clubs. Im concerned that we're playing two import d men down and its starting to show. We need to get some cover in for Waugh and the missing slot. This problem is being compounded by Steve Lee having a poor start to this season, not sure what going on with him. Hope its just a blip.

We were poor tonight. The second period was woeful.
Basic stick handling skills seemed to go out the window for a few players tonight, it cause so many turn overs it was becoming painful to watch. And the quality of passing was terrible, guys just not getting their heads up to see where they were putting the puck. We were also solidly out worked tonight which really isn't good enough.
Credit where it's due I thought Steelers were good tonight, well drilled and knew to keep us to the outside. They forechecked hard and it really seemed to fluster most of our D men. We missed Waugh tonight who is cool on the puck under pressure. Think this highlights our need to fill that defensive slot.
Positives: 1/ Wiikman, this is a guy who can win us silverware. 2/ Ultimately this is a meaningless game in practical terms. If we are going to have a bad game this was the one to do it on. 3/ If we can play that poorly against a team that fancies themselves for honours this year, and only finish 1 goal down that is promising. This Panthers team has several gears to go through yet. No need to panic. Think I'll put this one down to a bad day at the office.

I would say both incidents were called correctly by the officials.
Duco does raise his elbow into Ollie as he's coming in to finish his check; good call. Ollie definitely instigates the fight (with turns out to be a bit of a non event); good call.
At first when i saw the Mosey replay i thought the call was harsh. However when i watched it again i think Mosey does give him a push right as he goes into the boards. Oconnor does get himself in a very awkward position so Mosey is slightly unlucky. but if it was the other way around i would want a steeler to be called for it.

Whilst I appreciate that overall it's not great, it's still early days yet and players are still gelling and learning the system... Plus harsh to put 1 from 4 against Dundee up there. If we score at 25% all year round I'll be a happy man. Overall from 6 games Panthers have only score 3 goal from 21 PP, and was it me not paying attention or did Panthers lose an awful lot of the faceoffs yesterday afternoon? It not just you, i think the first 2 periods we must have won 30% at most. Moran isn't strong in the face off, but i expect better from Myers and Macmillan after the first few games where it felt like we won nearly everything. Just some more stats for people like me who love them. We've taken 108 shot in 3 games so far this season but only scored 4 goals... This means we're scoring 1 out of every 27 shots! It should be more like 1 in 11. Or to put it another way the opposition keepers so far have a 96.3% save against us atm... Thats awful! we're not working keepers atm all shots are straight at them when they are already set. This is the area that Corey needs to work on.

I was disappointed with panthers tonight, it took us 40 minutes to wake up. The second period was some of the most boring hockey ive seen in a long time.
The problem is quite obviously going forward. The root cause of all our problems is passing, at the moment its not tape to tape. So many attacks tonight were over before they began because of a poor pass behind the player or one way too far in front. This is also making our powerplay abit toothless. Its not time to hit the panic button yet the quality is there (look at the lovely goal we scored tonight) but its just not firing right now.
I wonder if someone with stats can do me a favour and tell me how many shots we've had in the last 3 game. I reckon we must be on about 1/20 for goals to shots which is terrible.
Positives: Wiikman: hes looked rock solid since hes come in couldnt be happier. And he seems to really care, he looked so annoyed when belfast scored the winner and it was hardly his fault. Lacho: thought he had his best game in a while, playing like he did a couple of seasons go and really solid forechecking. Janssen: Played just like i hoped he would, bags of energy and effort always looking for the check. Policed the game well and didnt do anything stupid. Definitely more than just a knuckle dragger. Bohmbach: pick of the new forwrds for me so far. Really good on the puck, just seems to be able to hold onto it in the opposition zone. Really thinks he needs to be pushed up to the top line.
Still really optomistic about this team, but we do need to start seeing some more goals.

With regard to Braeheads way of playing, it reminded me of a quote from a film i once watched. "Attitude reflect leadership" Bonus point if you know the film Remember the Titans.

Does anyone think the whole thing was brilliant and we need to see much more of it? (minus the part where punches are throw after the linos are in, that is the moment the fight stops imo) How frustrated does this blaze team seem this year, they're constantly wound up. great fun to watch Also why was the check at 1:24 called? good solid check to me, clan player should have had his head up.

Signing Weaver was seen as a gamble during the summer, but boy has it paid off! Not only is he playing some great hockey on an individual level, but his signing allowed us to sign more stay at home import dmen. And for me that has been the big difference this year.

wasn't at the game but based on that video he deserves that ban. i like rough gritty games, but 2 handed slashes like that during a stoppage in play is not on. we'll miss him against coventry i fear.

Got to say after watching the highlights, i oddly feel sorry for the blaze (not something u hear often). They really do seem to get the rough end of all the refs desicions. I'd be really fuming if that was panthers. How steward didn't get thrown out for punching someone already down is a mystery. also thought throwing hirsch was harsh, he didn't thrown punches and kept his gloves on, clearly only getting involved because there were no linemen around. Besides whether or not it was correct by the letter of the law, it ruined what was uptill that point a fairly close hockey game.

I have to agree. I still love going to games (as i've been going nearly my entire life) and i think slick passing and pretty goals can be a joy to watch. But for me there's nothing like sitting in a really tense game where you just know it can spark off at a moments notice. I remember going to steelers games when it was a rivalry, oy were they games! Everyone really cared about the result, including the players, and it showed. I love seeing huge hits and fights. Not the staged hugfests between so called enforcers, the ones where someone has just had enough and throws down. Simon hunt is a great example. The difference between those types of fights is huge. And those sorts of incidents only come about where thing are let go and it is left to the players to look after themselves. ZT is so damaging to the game as a whole imo. What i cant really get my head around is why in a league likes ours (which is very much under the radar in the contry and is a niche sport) dont they activley encorage rough style of play? Its the one thing that really sets hockey apart from other sports. It is easily the best way to get people coming back to games who are new to the sport. I remember talking to a friend who knew nothing about ice hockey other than it was played on ice. me: "and sometimes players drop the gloves and have a fight" friend: "seriously?! blimey how long do they get suspended for that" me: "suspended? mate they're back on the ice after 5 minutes." friend: "haha, that briliant! next time you go let me know" Took him to see the us play the vipers. Derek Campbell threw a questionable hit, Bergin skates over and they both go centre ice! Great fight. My mate thought it was one of the best things he'd ever seen, and has as a result been to many games since. This is exactly the kind of thing that draws people into ice hockey. The slow demise of the physical side of hockey is for me both sad and confusing.

The passing these past 4 games has been atrocious, if the players do manage to recieve the pass they fumble it and hesitate, losing all momentum and missing any chances that might have been open. Hate to quote Mighty Ducks but "Soft hands, Fulton. - Concentration, not strength" and maybe the team could improve by using Coach Bombays egg passing practices. Single biggest issue imo. It's killing us we cant build any sort of momentum as a result!

Well where do you start... This is a nightmare atm. We look clueless, so disjointed. Its painful to watch.
Our passing is awful! Its ruining any sort of chance at a build up of preassure. Players are miscontrolling things everywhere (worryingly its not just one or two guys, its nearly everyone!). Also we dont move the puck across the front of their net... ever. I noticed this last weekend so i was looking for it tonight. The only time decaro had to move from one post to other was when the puck went round behind the net. He's easily the weak link in their team, and yet we didn't work him at all. Everything was right at him. Any goalie could have saved most of them tonight. We are so flat, one dimentional and predictable up front. the way this teamis built our forwards have to play well every game, the last three games have shown us what will happen if they dont!
All three of thier goals were preventable. the first should have easily been delt with by the defenceman. the second k-wall will want back, trickled though his pads. The third had me fumming. Tait was just sat there for about 20 seconds waiting for the pass and noone moved him! I even said to my mate just before the goal, "Taits gonna score if they dont move him". It was so obvious, everyone could see it coming. Bad defending!
The new guys: Graham: Nowhere near effective enough, decent hands but not really seen him doing anything with the puck yet. really doesnt look to hav gelled at all. I think it's telling that he was moved so quickly off the myers and clarke line. Ling: Where have you been the last three games? its like he's not there. Galivan: Not a bad player, but not what we need. He's not a like for like replacement for DAB, and we are badly missing an out and out goal scorer. or if he is, he spends way to much time on the orads and not enough in front of net. Beckett: didn't see enough of his play tonight to say if he's upped his game. Good fight though. Tuma: Gotta say at this he's a liability. Three STUPID plenalties. the one after our first goal right when you hoped we get some momentum back... so silly.
the only good things out of tonight's game were: 1/ glad to see beckett jump in and have a good fight. think he must know everyone's worried about toughness. fought well mite easy a few nerves. 2/ steelers weren't that great. definatley beatable.
i dread to think whats gonna happen in wales tomorrow.

after 2 games my take on the new guys: (i hope i stand corrected on most of these) werner , looked a bit like a lost sheep, very small for a D man, not quick, not much in the way of puck control, and i was extremely angry to see him lay a guy out with a hit, only to turn round and ask him if he was ok... not what i want to see in a player during the game. Beckett seems to try hard but not quite sure he's good enough, seemed to pick it up physically tonight, but again, doesn't seem quality Tuma: get rid! nothing to him for a d man his size and blatently not match fit Ling : after last weekends talk i was really looking forard to seeing him, i'm disappointed, looked dis interested, and didn't seem to have much skill or grit, saw him throw one check Galivan: think he could be quite good, as a sniper, he'll get us a few goals. very easily removed off the puck, and not much fight in him.. Graham: good on the boards, but didn't see these soft silky skilled hands, and for a man his size he is way to easy to push off the puck. Weaver, not playing many minutes but when he was on the ice seemed composed and played well. the team as a whole NEEDS SHOOTING PRACTICE!!! Have to disagree with you about Werner. He moves well and uses his stick to good effect. We are badly missing a lepine type player. We need someone who can fight properly. I think corey may have underestimated the effect lepine had on the rest of the team (particually our forwards). Once again its the D that gonna cost the league. Im not a big fan of singling out players for complaint. However its pretty clear where the weak links are. Becket and Tuma are not good enough at this point. Becket, how he played so many game in the ahl is beyond me. his decision making is terrible. he tries to do too much, he needs to just get rid of the puck and stop messing around with it and getting caught out. Tuma, well theres not alot to say. He's barely on the ice and when he is he doesnt do anything. he's so static in his own zone. completely ineffective. Some positives: Lee looks really good so far, no nonsense, stands up for the team keeps it simple. Lacho's turning into a real gem. linking up really well with francis and gally. deserves his place on the powerplay Weaver, hasn't let us down. playing well and looks fit. we're not regretting trading meyers for him atm.

I've been on a night out after the game but heres my bit.
first 10 mins were poor. no other way of putting it, we were bad. aftr this we seemed to dominate large parts of the game. overall i was very impressed considering we were missing an entire line of players (some of our best as well). our special teams really developed as well as the game went on.
Player analysis:
K-wall- poor first 10 mins but after that as we're used to.
Neilson- logged less mins than usual i think, ditto for kwall Lee- played a decent game (gotta say i forgot he had a shot on him) Weaver- played well, heard him shouting commands all game (always a good thing imo) Was used mainly on the powerplay and looked dangerous. if he's used this way all season he could be a real asset. Becket- gotta say he wasn't overly impressive. hope he was just blowing the cobwebs off. will watch him closely tomorrow to see if things improve. seemed to have decent speed for a big guy and good hand at times. but some bad moments of desision making (the gifted goal sticks out). Norton- Was very impressed. looks to have really matured imo, seems much more powerful and confident on the puck. Still has a long way to go but defo one to watch for the future, could be a real star. Lacho- first off looks bigger and stronger than last season (does anyone else agree or not with this). played well expecting big things from him this season. played well with francis and gally. Franis- didn't look off pace at all imo. was making good movs and creating plays for his line mats only confirmed what a good signing he is tonight. Gally- People keep saying he was quiet however i feel he's just what we need. alway looking for space waiting for a pass to come to him. when the team gels abit more i can see him being a real threat. had a great finish for his goal! trying not to get ahead of myself, but he looks a like for like replacement for DAB. Levers- Although he did a great job for us on defence last season, tonight he showed us why he should be on a forward line. worked non-stop and forechecked like a beast (was rewarded with a goal) a solid candidate for mom along with francis for me. cant fault his performance, just keep it up all season levers. Graham- didn't watch him closley enough tonight so say much (was watching the other new guys tonight) seemed to have quick hands for such a big guy, but didn't move an awful lot. will pay more attention in the second game. Myers-had a decent game nothing more. Clarke- Looked rusty, and couldn't hit a barn door in first period. however seemed to have retained that pysical play fron last season, which was good to see. I have no dout he'll be back to his usual self in the season.
Others: Ferra- thought he played well and didn't look out of place at all. 26 (sorry dont know your name)- impressed me looked like he had his head in the game, defo one to keep an eye on for the future. 41 (sorry dont know your name)- didn't really see enough to make a comment.
overall was very happy. after Asiago's third goal went in i though we were gonna get smashed (i didn't expect us to win this game in the first place) however we regrouped and came back. we controled large parts of the 5 on 5 after the first period, and our special teams massively improved as the game went on. All this and we were missing an entire line (a top line i will add).
it's only 1 game, but we showed signs of what we are capable of. I'd be worried if i were other teams. I'll report back on the secind game, where i'll be watching becket, tuma and graham more closely.
