With a week until the first leg is played, this thread is going up early ... but lots are talking about it already so in an effort to keep the forum tidy here is the thread for the above games ... Despite recent results, rumours and counter rumours I remain cautiously optimistic and think we are in with a chance ... one thing's for sure, it won't be an easy ride.
Go Panthers ... keep the faith.

I've had a few requests for an archive section to the forum for threads that are too good to spend the rest of their days hidden amongst the back pages forgotten about.
It's been such a great year to be a Panther that I agreed, a read only board where those classic threads can live out their days and you can revisit them from time to time when you need a lift is a good idea.
If you think there's a thread on another board that seems to have run it's course but worthy of retirement to 'Cage Forum Gold' then send me a PM with details ...

Another highly recommended book ... for newbies and the more experienced ...
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hockey by Malcom G. Kelly and Mark Askin. ISBN 0-02-864257-0
Covers a whole range of topics from the modern rules ... records ... early history in N.America and Europe ... how the NHL came about etc etc ... loads of great information and in a good format.
Priced at CAN $28.95 ... if you can find a copy on Amazon or wherever then you should buy it. ;D
(I'm not on commission! I just think it's a great book!)

The old LPS was great, and the atmosphere is unlikely to be fealt at the new place, but you have to move with the times, and break with the past. I'm sure the team will generate new memories for the NIC I can picture it now ... April 2046 ... Location: Planet Ice ... not as you know it now but an actual planet completely covered in ice where most ice related sports take place ... 40,000 billion light years from Earth but thanks to teleporters it only takes 4.8 msecs to travel there. A wrinkly old man sits next to a brain in a glass bottle connected to what looks like a lap top computer in an ice stadium, block shhef, row quarg .... The old man speaks ... "Remember the old days BJ?" The brain replies ... "Oh yes Shin me old mucka ... remember that NIC?!" "Hey Beej, you're not wrong .. now there was a place ... and hockey was so much better then when it was only two dimensional ..." "Hell yeah ... and the way the bluecoats would look after us ... much better than the ex military cyborg battle-bots they have here at the new place ... at least they didn't terminate you for smuggling lemonade into the rink. And the beer was only 2.40 a pint ... sheesh! Those were the days ... you're lucky to get a pint of synthetic non-alcoholic brown beverage for less than 420 dollarpounds these days!" "Yeah, but Beej ... the best thing was the atmosphere ... can you remember ... ooh cripes, must have been 2004? The year we won the Challenge Cup and the Play Offs after a trophy drought of about five years or so...? The old place was packed ... the atmosphere electric!" "Shin, the whole planet's atmosphere turned electric not long after that ... that's why we all had to leave!" "You know what I mean smart ass!"

Okay ... people are sounding positive so we'll give it a go ... keep an eye out for the vintage board in the next day or so ... I hope we can get this to work. With or without official blessing it's surely got some mileage to run to raise some money for charity so I'm willing to take it on. We'll see what stories we can get and take it from there. Hopefully we'll be able to get the club onside to make things easier ...
I'll send the e-mails, make the phone calls etc ... but its YOU that has the hard work to do and commit your memories to print ...

I think there might be some mileage in the idea Shaggy , if it was well supported ...
In the next day or so I shall set up a corner of the forum for vintage hockey stories and see how many we get over the coming weeks .... aswell as canvassing opinion on whether these stories should be put in print ... monies raised to go to junior development? IHPA? Any other ideas?
If it looks like a popular fund raising idea then I shall approach GM and give him our thoughts ...

I talked to Rink Rush Jono and he said they'd try and get someone there.
If not, we'll organise one of us to rattle a bucket ...
