Copied from another Thread, Seems more appropriate having a thread just for this. Me and 2 friends have been trying to get into hockey now for around a month!, We have improved our skating but are struggling for anyone willing to let us play in a novice rec team! We enquired about having our own 1 hour session at Sutton started up, it wasnt too expensive, What about the cage having an novice team starting up !!!! No politics just pass and shoot fun hockey. Please note you're intrest here ! Its not just as easy as getting a few people together, you need to apply for registration as a Rec team through the appropriate channels, also secure definate ice time easy enough for travelin to and from, someone to "manage" all the subs and accounts and im pretty sure theres more to it than just them little things there. Then players need to register at £32 (may have changed, thats what its just cost me). If you can secure a solid time and place for reasonable price id be happy to sort the paperwork side of things out no problem and make sure theres enough people intrested to cover the rink prices. Some form of a "coach" would be beneficial aswell that way you can encourage beginners to attend and there is someone who can spend time going through the basics etc...

Thanks for my own thread! lol
I realise its more than just a few quid and a knock about. But definatley prepared to go down the right channels about doing this. What about enquiring about an adult side for Sutton Sting ?

If you can get the regular icetime id be happy to answer questions and help you out as I set up the sheffield ice tigers from scratch and was around when a rec team was being put together in sutton a long time ago!

on the other hand.... do it as private hire for an hour and just play hockey. Dont set up a team. Just have a couple of drills then a scrimmage. Thats what I do at a session in Sheffeild
Get some regulars who want to play before jumping in feet first with a full on rec team. A lot of work if you find you cant drum up the interest.

i agree with ted, if you do it that way you can see how a team would work and play together etc before toomuch commitment is made,
personally i dont feel i am ready to play in a team(have only been playing about a month), however if you where to have openish ice time like ted suggested id be interested...

and Sutton is closer than Shuff. Less petrol, whoopee.
TBH, when I first saw it mentioned, I did assume you were not going to set up a team, but an informal get together for a scrimmage. Probably will be for the best initially.

If we could get a knock around started down at Sutton it would be awesome. I spoke to a woman a few weeks ago down there and there was definatley ice time, just a block booking would have to be made to secure it.
If you are a definate yes please state here, so we can get an idea on numbers...

I'm a definate yes. I used to go down to Paul Woodhouse's training on Monday nights at Sutton and really enjoyed that... it's good to be able to train elsewhere than the NIC.

I'm interested too. I'm sort of a begginer too really but would like to start playing somewhere. Are there age limits as im only 17?

I rang them today but the person/s i need to speak to were unavailable at the time so will try again in the morning.
Chickrun - As it stands there be no byas's for standard or age as long as none are imposed by the rink, and going from the intrest so far theres a few "experienced" people wanting to come play so im sure they would be happy to give you a hand. As it goes from what people suggest it'll be a hour or so of good old playing hockey maybe throw some bits in at the beggining... Ill be happy stood in my little crease lol so what ever people suggest im sure will go ahead.

I would say count me in too, but I live in London. If you want a hand, coaching or anything, I'm Level 2 qualified, and when I'm up in Nottingham I could let you know.
Its not much help really!!

... Ill be happy stood in my little crease lol... I know Sutton is small, but do you really think they actually have room for a crease in the goal area? lol They don't have any markings what so ever, nothing but two nets. It's all good though. I'd be up for coming along if it were on a Monday evening. Possibly Tuesday if it were a late session. I only live 10 minute drive away but have commitments on other nights.

Just a thought... if you aren't looking for regular ice time at the NIC... have you gone to their website? You can download the schedule there and find out when there is free ice. Then you can at least get a quote if you call up. Let me know if you need a hand with that

£200 an hour? Thats last price I heard.
That would take 20 of us just to make it a tenner each!
