I didn't have much to recover from - I didn't go mental on the drink and went straight to sleep - after making sure Kim was ok of course

Just as a reminder:
Nottingham Lions kick off their playoff campaign this Sunday away at Whitley Bay. If anyone's interested then there will be a small number of seats on the coach for this one, just PM me.
If not then I'm sure that there'll be someone posting updates.

Should be a fun game, shame I'm going to miss it. The only team we did not get a win against was Whitley, but without making excuses, to compare our team then with how it is now should make things more interesting this time. We've lost Joe Wightman, but have since added Tom Griffiths, Lyle Idoine, Brian O'Brien and Adam Robinson, and when we played in Whitley we didn't have the under-18s. With these players we have the chance to roll four lines and outwork any team, as well as having scoring potential right the way down the line-up. For those who, like me, can't make the Whitley game, there is the Newcastle trip the following Saturday (which I also can't make), and the first home game is against Whitley on Sunday March 16th, faceoff 7:15pm. I hope to see you there

Well done Lions on a great season. Good Luck in the Play Off's. Can I also say a big WELL DONE to ALL your 'Back Room' staff including your Team Manager Richard. It sounds like you all have a great Team Spirit, on and off the ice!

Indeed, it's been a superb season so far but there's still plenty to play for! Good luck this weekend, the Lions will need it without their lucky mascot who's not allowed to go because he's got to pack his (and his better half's) suitcases for their holiday out to visit some idiot in Italy

Yeah Richard's done a great job for the Lions this season, as has the team's other manager John. After all, without their efforts the Lions wouldn't get on the ice. But then, John's too modest to accept praise like that.
Yes, I am off to visit my little brother in Italy so I'm not allowed to go to Whitley. It's not the late night that's the issue, but the fact that in light of certain comments made at the last game up there, I might not make it back in one piece.
So if you do go, sing loud and proud, whether it's the National Anthem or Nelly the Elephant, and make sure that woman in the green fleece knows you're there!

Oh bum.
Ah well - now we just have to beat them at home, and even things up.

By all accounts not our finest hour, but I wasn't there. I did hear of one amusing moment though - Whitley fans shouting "who are you?", Lions fans responding with "championes" - well done all of you.
I don't think this is the end of the world - yet. After all, in the regular season we lost up in Whitley and then went on a winning streak that lasted the rest of the season, during which time we beat Newcastle twice and Sheffield twice. My point is that we've bounced back before and I think we can bounce back again.
However overcoming Whitley is a big ask - to be dead level with them we'll need to beat them by six goals next weekend, to have the tiebreaker advantage we'll need to beat them by seven. No one has done that all year, but then, only one team has beaten us all year and law of averages shows that everyone is due an off day once in a while.
I hope everyone who goes to the game up in MobilX next Saturday has a good trip, and I'll see you when we're back from Italy, when Whitley come to Nottingham on Sunday March 23rd, faceoff 19:15.

It wasn't a bad game - but there were a number of factors that I think contributed to the game.. One being the lousy ice surface. There's no excuses but normally the Lions play a free-flowing passing game, too many times the pass was made and the puck never arrived, or was intecepted along the way.. A couple of times when the puck was iced it bounced so many times it was unbelieveable! Also the lighting was lousy as were the boards.
I just think that we have a problem playing in Whitley Bay... We did to some extent in Sheffield but we've won there this season.
I'd like to think that it was just a one-off 'bad' game, and we'll pick ourselves up in Newcastle next weekend.
The playoffs are by no means out of reach yet, but we have made things a little harder for ourselves.

A strange game.
Lions got a penalty after just 40 seconds, and finished the 1st 2-1 down - Chris Colegate scoring on the Powerplay.
Lions scored 2 in the second, Rob Lachowicz and Colegate again - Colegate scores on a delayed penalty. Blaine Evans was the ref, and had called some strange decisions - including 2 bench minors for face off violations.
However the Vipers indiscipline really let them down and they ran into penalty trouble, but only after Lions had scored 2 in 62 seconds right at the start of the period - Lachowicz and Colegate again - his hat-trick goal again on the powerplay.
Vipers racked up 93 minutes in penalties in this period - Not helped by Atherton getting 5+Game for slashing, and Jeremy Lundin getting 10+Game+Match for an altercation with Lions' Tom Griffiths. Griffiths received a 10 for Misconduct and a Match penalty.
A good result for the Lions, saw them back in the hunt for the playoffs, but they need to do the same against Whitley tomorrow.

Indeed - this could be just as big for us as our regular season win in Newcastle was. Let's hope the boys are just as up for it against Whitley, as that should be an awesome game. For those following the subplot in this thread of my holiday, I'm back from Italy and psyched for this game. I hope to see plenty of you there.

End of the 1st: Lions 2-1 Warriors. Colegate scored a good goal on the PP, Cannon got a "freak goal", then Whitley pulled one back.

End 2nd: still Lions 2-1 Warriors. I'm told that both teams have taken some silly penalties to set up a tense final period.
