Then there was Simon Suoranta another Finn with a rather similar CV to Otto Nieminen. How did that one work out Jono, was he a “stud” too ? We can all pick names. Suoranta's CV was very good indeed, you don't play 8 seasons in Liiga without having something about you, even in a checking role. He never gelled here at all (he wasn't be the first to do that) but his CV suggested high end skill set. In the end, it didn't work out, I suspect both sides were disappointed. And who knows if Nieminen will be end up a Suoranta or an Ahlroos, stats-wise? All we know is he is coming off a great season in Denmark. But then so did William Quist. It's a crap shoot at this stage, far too many variables to make definitive statements, but I can certainly see why Jono (and others, me included) likes Nieminen as we stand. There’s a name Bob....William Quist he was bloody hopeless and his mate that came with him,was it Jakobs or something, that pair didn’t last five minutes. Think they were Swede’s though. Give me a team full of Canadians and Americans with an odd Czech or Slovak any day over Finns and Swedes.

That might be a reason some euros don't settle too well, although there are, as always, exceptions. Quist had a HUGE season in Denmark the year before, yet was an almost total bust here.

I always feel more confident when we sign an American or Canadian, although they don’t always work out well either as we have seen in the last few years. To say we already have 2 “studs” really doesn’t fill me with any confidence at all for next season. Would be disappointed if these are the level of “studs” we are signing.
