Some takes from last evening :
Liked Jones, maybe a nervy start but I thought he was excellent particularly in the second period where they had a spell of bearing down with Vallerand and Latal.
Don’t believe a referee who originally made a call on ice should be involved during the review of a decision (said this when it didn’t go our way on Dec 27th).
Also, I sit directly behind the away bench on the front row, the way in general they act around referees is scandalous. Begging for everything even when they’re simply wrong. In terms of the goal, I was amazed they were able to get away with it. They watched their iPad etc and then tried to talk the ref through the incident on the iPad, which to my mind completely should not be allowed.
With refereeing all you ask for is consistency, and I just don’t see how the incidents on 27th December and last night are different.
Thought we played well, with energy and desperation, and one mix up cost us the extra point. Further proof McNally likes to try and bully non heavys like Tousignant last year, Hammond last night before Gagnon offered him out (which has less than no interest in!)
Thought Hammond was excellent again to follow up his last home game where I thought he looked really bright, hopefully he finishes the season really strongly.
I do feel like we miss Ricci’s physicality and forechecking when he is playing on D, yes he does finish his hits, but it would be nice to have that energy behind the opponents net when they’re trying to break out!

I agree with you about Hammond, I’ve been critical of him this season but these last few games he’s looked lively and effective in the offensive zone, whilst not giving the puck away cheaply over and over. I still think there are times where he can be a bit less fancy and make simple passes without putting possession at risk. Also, completely agree with you regards McNally, he’s a bully, he didn’t want anything to do with Gagnon. Gagnon confronting him just after we scored to make it 2-2 fired the crowd up further and we scored our 3rd not long after that, that was nice to see.

It wasn’t a mix up that cost us the point… it was absolute inadequacy from the usual suspect. He instructed Levin which Steelers to pick up (which he did) then he just followed the same man giving such a clear opening for the GWG. You can see the reaction of Levin afterwards on the goal replay. It baffles me that this guy has seen through 5 coaching regimes so far (Wallace, Matheson/Lee, Dave Whistle, GG & now Corey/Strachan)

Just remind me, at 10.00 did the teams play 2 minutes at 4 on 4, or carry on 5 on 5?

Quick highlights (well, goals) review. First 2 Steelers goals well worked, they're too quick for our D. What a snipe from Brady. Suspect Greenfield hasn't been beaten like that much, if at all, this season. Not much evidence of a tip from Ricci, is there? The incident... Refs will (and probably should) always wash that out and have a look. To these eyes, I think if Ricci leaves Allen alone as he's about to contact Jones, it's 100% GI and no goal. As it is, Ricci pushes Allen into Jones in the crease then falls on him. I'm OK with that decision on review. I guess those decisions are the perils of having a bloke who's not really a D man on D. OT goal, what a cockerel up between 88 and 13. Surely the puck carrier is 13's guy? "In terms of the rules, the IIHF rule on goalie interference on reviews says... The standard for overturning the call in the event of a “no goal” call on the ice is that the On-ice Officials (Referees), after reviewing any and all replays and consulting with the IIHF Video Review Operations, determine that the goal on the ice should have been allowed because either: (I) There was no actual contact of any kind initiated by the attacking Player with the Goalkeeper; or (II) The attacking Player was pushed, shoved or fouled by the defending Player causing the attacking Player to come into contact with the Goalkeeper; or (III) The attacking Player’s positioning within the Goal Crease did not impair the Goalkeeper’s ability to defend their goal and, in fact, had no discernable impact on the play; where this standard is met, the goal will be allowed." FWIW, I think I and III are met to call it no goal, but not II. And that means it's a goal. I'm assuming this is how the 2 refs saw it.

It baffles me that this guy has seen through 5 coaching regimes so far (Wallace, Matheson/Lee, Dave Whistle, GG & now Corey/Strachan) It baffles me that people so easily forget that Brassard was the best of the Panthers full time D last season and most (if not all) commentators reacted positively to his re-signing. Quite what's happened to him this season is what has baffled me, he's been a shadow of last season's player. Maybe he just needs a blinking haircut?

I don’t think his defensive ability was up to much last season, I think his puck carrying and his point production on the powerplay blinded a lot of people

I also only think he ran hot production wise at the end of the season (I could be Mis-remembering that though)

Best D man, yes, but I expect a few expected a lot more off Matheson than 1+4 all season. His points were scored prettyevenly, though he had a huge barren patch between games 35-41 inclusive, and a pretty slow start. Attachments:

I also only think he ran hot production wise at the end of the season (I could be Mis-remembering that though) 11 points in the last 13 games, when the season long average was 0.5 PPG means that last thought has more than a grain of truth. However, he also had 11 in the last 20. 11 and 16 points in each half season respectively.
