Indeed. If I remember correctly, up until a couple of years ago I think they’d played each other in about 250 EIHL games and the Steelers had won about 140 with the Panthers about 100 and there were around 10 draws. Imagine playing 250 games against one team in only 19 years 🤦 It’ll be considerably more than 250 games now, I bet it’s close to 300 and the win gap will have got wider too. (Where’s Bob when we need him) 😉

I’m here but I don’t know that. 😂 The EIHL Statto’s will know that one.

How often do some nhl teams play each other a year, and that’s a 30 team league? It sounds like a lot if you phrase it like it’s a lot, for me. Bet Devils and Blaze won’t be far behind.

Currently the most they play against 1 side is 4 times (in the regular season). We play them at least 10 times a season, so we're well ahead tbh. I suppose they could scramble the CC groups each year, so it changes. Fetch the bag for life.

Picking up on the common theme in the thread, this season is already guarenteed 12 games v Steelers, 6 at home. That on it's own is ridiculous. For me it's really diluted the intensity of the rivalry. Then you add in the farce of a cup competition, purely in place to maximise revenue aswell as full price tickets makes it even more ridiculous. Tomorrows ticket sales are poor. When do they realise it's gone beyond the tipping point. People clearly arn't engaged enough if the building isn't close to sold out.
From the perspective of the club and league I can see why they want to do it but surely the maths is getting close to not worth it now. For starters bin off pre season Steelers games and get back to different teams. Even top NIHL teams if Europeans ones have become to expensive. Plenty will pay to see a different team if priced correctly. Especially for first look at the new roster.
A CC group of 5 playing different teams(perhaps even keep Sheffield in it) playing 1 home, 1 away = 4 home games. Say we have Guilford, Sheffield, Coventry and Manchester. As its only 4 home games a season charge full price for Steelers. It'll be first game v them of season so demand will be there. Then maybe drop tickets by £5 for the other 3 games. Revenue as it stands from CC comes from around 2k fans in for the Manchester games and perhaps 4k for the 2 Steelers games.
I rekon you'd be more like. Manchester 3.5k, Steelers 6.5k, Coventry 4.5k and Guilford 3.5k. All complete guess work on my part of course but I dont see them losing money on changing to that. People have really lost the appetite for this CC format and ticket sales over recent years have proved that.

As it stands Steelers and Panthers could potentially play each other 16 times this season. 2 x Pre season 6 x League 4 x Cup round robin 2 x Cup semi 2 x PO quarter final That’s absolutely bonkers !

Imagine playing 250 games against one team in only 20 years 🤦 It’d be interesting to see how the number of Sheffield games per season breaks down. Over the last 10 seasons I’d bet we’ve played them at least 100 times. The cup format is certainly not helping but I think we’re at a point now where games against Sheffield are unlikely to sell out anymore. Have a look at the ticket sales for this game on the arena website. The league has to alter the farcical cup format next season though That will have as much to do with this season starting as badly as last season finished. Lack of excitement, lack of competing = lack of sold seats without the season tickets propping things up

Caruso out of this game and the next 3/4 weeks it seems, real shame! Hope Puffer and Sorensen are back. Good grief

I've said it before. Reduce the number of league games and make the play-offs more intense with 'must win' games. I will get back into my box again. Just before I close the lid, I can count the number of times we have played versus Sheffield but it would be over the last few seasons as can't be bothered to try and do the whole history. Bets on 2 thirds win for Sheffield over the period?

So again 3 players out .. wonder when the penny will drop that you need to carry spares to allow for injuries and illness!

More likely two fifths won by us. We had 8 draws within that time also.

1-0 Panthers, unrecognisable from last week so far but being helped out by the Steelers being uncharacteristically abysmal in their own zone.

1-1, Powerplay goal after an very bad too many men penalty, we skated 6 on 5 for a full 20 seconds

Goodness knows (I’ve been on holiday) what the combined league and cup PK stats are so far. Abysmal, I’d think.
