Panthers down as away team today and home team for the second leg. Was that a choice that Coventry made?

"Sport England certainly didn't realise we were the largest indoor sport in the country until we started banging the drum. "It was only when Clive gave us that push through the door that they realised we do have some standing in sporting communities and we should be taken seriously, over and above a few other sports." I'm not sure who this reflects worse on, Sport England or the EIHL? It's not what you know, it's who you know? It definitely doesn't put the EIHL in a good light .. it's upto them to make the wider domain aware of them not the other way around

Just send a clip saying who won what etc....get 10 seconds mention rather than none.

To a large degree, Sport England should know all about the sports they are "in charge" of, surely, but it's incumbent on the EIHL to make sure that they do.

Panthers 1-0 up after 2 periods of the first semi final. Domingue with the goal.

Panthers 1-0 up after 2 periods of the first semi final. Domingue with the goal. Whistle gets the start, deservedly so. Uncharacteristically tight game, it seems.

Cangelosi with number two and Whistle with the first shutout of the tournament, good lead for the Panthers.

Really quite a strange game in some respects. Both teams created some good chances with some great saves both ends. I still think Boivin inadvertantly prevented a Panthers goal with his stick in the crease.
Where it's so strange and perhaps you may think im going nuts, but I think it was Whistles worst performance. He absoloutly made some outstanding saves, but his rebound control has been woeful. His team mates did a great job of clearing up after him. No doubts from me he'd earnt the start and he deserved a shutout for some of his performances this series. Was one of those querks that often occur in the sporting world.

Will take a brave man to start anyone ahead of Bowns against the Russians ..

Great win tonight. Coventry are going to have come out and attack us tomorrow, we need to keep our discipline, if we do that and limit the number of powerplays, then we’ll advance.
I just want to mention Boivin again, he’s a great player to watch when he’s got the puck, he always looks lively and threatening. He’d be one of the first players I’d sign for next season.

Whistle may have truly well deserved the start but was he iced because the rotation from Wallace has penned Bowns for the next one? Bowns for games one and three of a possible final series too?

Bit of a shootout in the other game, 4-5 with 10 minutes left.

Bit of a shootout in the other game, 4-5 with 10 minutes left. Getting feisty too! Some big hits and getting a lot of digs coming in from both sides. Refs happy to let a lot go, although apparently a misconduct handed out after the final whistle to someone on the Storm by the sounds of the commentary.

Game sheet says Cam Critchlow got 10 minutes, and someone with the number "F".

Good game, were unlucky to score more as Betteridge had a great chance. Whistle definately the hotter NM at the moment and I hope Wallace doesnt keep on his decision to rotate them for each game otherwise if Bowns has another dodgy start the 2 goal advantage will be wiped out within the first 3 minutes.

From the highlights I saw, if we give up as many chances again we could be in trouble. Can't expect Whistle to produce another stand out performance.

One thing I've just noticed, Blaze's PP is apparently running at 34%! Best in the series by a mile. And their PK is 84%. Impressive stuff. Panthers could do with keeping out of the penalty box...

Which is the useful thing with playoff hockey, refs stick their whistles in their pocket. The only thing they'll call is trips and hooks so just watch your stickwork. Silencing Keck, Hammond and Ferrara is the other key to the game.
