Yes, and it was a significant weakness against a not very physical Sheffield. Belfast and Cardiff are another kettle of fish unfortunately.

Anyone who thinks we can live with their budget is plain crazy. We're playing for 4th place this season, never forget that. Well we could and we should, but I can only assume that a significant amount of the profits are being spent elsewhere.... Anyway I’m season ticketless this year and doubt I’ll be seeing this lot on the ice much at all... I’m not feeding the cash cow, this will be the norm all season when playing the top 3....

We should be spending the money the top 3 are. Agreed, but we aren't. There will be plenty more scores like this throughout the season against budgets like this. Get used to it would be my advice.

First game of the season, away and in the pointless cup, so won't get too down on them, but that's an ugly 3rd period.

Yet according to EP, Panthers are 2 cm taller on average?

We've been built to be a counter attacking team. Worked a treat in the first but our defense fell apart in the 2nd and 3rd.

Yet according to EP, Panthers are 2 cm taller on average? If you could average our guys out it would have been better. They steamrollered us on some parts of the ice.

Yet according to EP, Panthers are 2 cm taller on average? Height doesn’t mean we are big. Just look at Cam.

But I hope this stings for them and they’ll realise that you can’t turn up for 20 minutes this year. I would have said the same had we won: it’s one game and in the grand scheme of things has little bearing on the season. Hopefully the addition of Bulmer will balance the forward lines more. Fully expect and want a positive response tomorrow.

Seemed to be sharing the penalty minutes or was the ref trying to fill all columns? Only 8 players without a mark against their name, be it goal/assist or penalty. That includes the netminders also.

I’m not angry, like I normally would be after a heavy defeat in Sheffield, but I’m still frustrated that we collapsed that badly.
Sheffield’s firepower in their forward ranks is far superior to ours, every power play they looked like scoring, and imo we were lucky to not concede in the 1st period.
I’m not going to start calling players out but we need to see more offence from certain players tomorrow, I’d also have to agree with the comments that we got out-muscled tonight. I thought there were a few highlights tonight though, Herr continued his scoring and DeSantis had a solid first game.
Unfortunately, Sheffield do look very good, after watching the CHL and pre-season games so far I think Belfast look the best team and imo Sheffield look better than Cardiff.
Hopefully we can make it a closer game tomorrow.

Just watched the goals on the Steelers website. Ours were opportunistic, 1pp, 2sh, 1 bad bounce. Steelers scoring from anywhere and everywhere. Carr beaten high, low and a couple of times came out too far. He get hung out to dry for the later goals. Hopefully the defence support him more tonight.

Quick assessment. Thought we started the game the right mate. Kept our shape and forced into making mistakes. Once it was 0-3 hogarth was always going to get them back in it by calling soft pens and that was the case. I knew we had it as soon as Golovkovs was blatantly tripped towards the end of the first and no call.
Once it got to 3-3 there was only one winner as they gained momentum.
Thought Herr stood out as possibly the best on the ice certainly the first half of the game. Quist was excellent too. Great skater for a big man. Carr looked pretty solid but in the 3rd panthers were chasing the game so left him exposed too much. Not convinced on kantor too much. Could be their Achilles.
Connelly very composed again while we keeping things under control.
Nice to see Kelsall and hazeldine get regular shifts too. Tetlow is improving too.

We certainly took too many penalties and got away with it first period. 3rd period we were steamrollered - interesting to see how we shape up tonight. I liked de Santis and Herr, also I thought Kelsall did well out of the younger players. Time will tell whether there is enough quality in the squad to compete. What concerns me is looking at Belfast on Thursday night and the squad they have put together. Certainly Steelers aren't going to be a push over this season.

Looking forward to the the full one no end. While it's fun to blame the refs & yes I do it occasionally the cold hard truth is they are significantly better player wise than we are.

Not as though I'm correct all the time but noticed along with another person an error in the stats.
Nice set of stats on the Elite site now but for CARR we have 43 SOG and 8 goals = 35 saves which is correct but Kantor has 22 noted as shots against him which can't be. As you add up the map dots it is 22 saves and 4 goals = 26 shots. So the 22 saves have been put into the shots column by mistake. ie) each calculation does not equal each other. You can double-check this as the player shots equal 26 like Sheffield v us is 43.
Headache already.

I think we well and truly got lured into a false sense of security after the 1st Period. I was talking to friends in the first interval saying even being 3-0 up I felt extremely nervous because it just wasn't Panthers style to go to Sheffield and be leading by 3 after 20 minutes. Additionally, Steelers had a lot of chances in the first but couldn't hit a barn door. We had a few chances and took them well.
Steelers did what I expected and I'm sure most others expected and re-grouped, came back strong and kept bombarding the net. As soon as they scored their 1st in the 2nd Period it was obvious what would happen.
We saw some positive stuff from our guys I feel, Herr looked excellent, Kelsall and Hazeldine looked good. Quist looked decent, Malmquist looks pretty quick and agile but the one issue I have is how soft and weak we are. It wasn't until at least goal 7 when Lepine started playing with intensity, we barely hit and we allow teams to boss us around. I also don't believe we're half as quick as we were expecting either.
It's early days anyway and Challenge Cup so hopefully the issues are rectified early on. If we have Lepine and Bulmer playing hard, I think we'd last a lot longer in games and just be better in general, it makes no sense to not utilise big, aggressive players.
I quite dislike this Steelers roster already too. Their Russian guy "Lemmy", bit of a rat. Davies, bit of a rat. Deluca and Vallerand, complete grease balls. Connelly, complete rat.

Let the other 3 spend what they want as long as they can sustain it and dont spend beyond their means it's fine by me..
