It seems Simmsey is a teensy weensy bit jealous. He reckons Stewart is a “typical Panthers and Elite Prospects signing”. Mmmm yes David ok...... you keep on thinking it ! 🙄 He's wrong but I can see what he's getting at, I'd say that Jay Henderson was a typical Panthers mid-season elite prospects signing - bags of experience including NHL / AHL, great euro CV too, comes here and does nothing and then retires immediately afterwards. Stewart on the other hand was a legitimate NHL-er last season and its nothing short of a massive coup for us to bring him in. That said (and not to wee on the bonfire of a great signing too much!) I do wish that the cash that pays for the like of Stewart / Williams / Gallant mid-season was just put into the roster at the start of the season in the first place. But no doubt there is some visa / salary package trickery that goes into attracting these guys over for the last few months of the season...

If only Panthers signing a player who played the whole of last season in the NHL was typical... It's a fair point though, how is there often money for a rent-a-player or two in December/post Christmas, when the league is generally gone?

Simple Panthers tactics though,it happens to try and appease the fans by trying to win the cup or play offs so at seasons end they can point to a trophy....any trophy ! Even if the guy was on say an EIHL silly £3k a week it’s only around £50k extra if we’d had him since the season started. I’ve never understood why a businessman as astute as Black is portrayed to be cannot grasp that a winning team increases the crowd and thus the extra budget spend pays for itself.

I like Henderson - but wonder about this! "Chris wanted to be part of this, he knew we had a special team and we're going towards a championship. Thats the main reason that he's here"

The fact that Simms has come out and said what he has tells us a lot, and to me it says he’s worried. I can’t recall us ever signing a player with this sort of resume, Janssen and McGrattan were stars but this is a proven NHL pointscorer who was there last season, if this was a ‘typical’ signing for us then I think we would be dominating the EIHL😂
You’ve got to remember that he’s got to try and convince the sheep that they don’t need to worry. We’ve just signed a proven NHL player and Sheffield have resorted to bringing in players from last season who weren’t good enough then.
To be honest he’s just made himself look a bit daft with his statement.
To those who are worried about the attitude that Stewart is going to bring I could understand the concerns if he’d come here without knowing anything about the club but he has some emotional ties. His brother played for us and he appears to be good friends with Henderson (which I’m sure was a big factor in him joining).
I expect, and hope, he’ll play the same way that he did in the NHL, and that there’ll be no easy nights for defenceman in front of their net. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.

A rather tough ask that unless he means cup or play offs.

Thats the main reason that he's here" There’s a lot of hockey left to be played this season and there’s a lot of conference games left for the top 2, I’m convinced that the points percentages for the champions this year will be lower than last. Until we are mathematically out let’s have some belief and get behind the team, who knows what can happen.

Simms is just jealous, he'd love Steelers to make such a signing. Anything he states is pure bluster for his 'followers'.

The North American contingent do seem to refer to any of the titles as championships, he probably just meant we're on course to win something, which we probably are.
I too think the league is looking a bit unlikely at present, but you never know I suppose.

Exactly...
It's not every season Panthers go out and sign a 650 game nhler!! And a top 6 forward at that.
I mean Sheffield signed Johnson who's played a lot of nhl but honestly who can remember him playing in that league?
As CVs go Stewert eclipses alot of the lock out players who came over here over the years
If anyone is unaware what Stewert is capable of check some of his action on YouTube he's all over it, when he put his mind to it!
Like I've said Stewert at 50% effort will be more superior to most imports here at 90%!

Just a general question and no way a dig at any player but would you rest Billingsley and keep Tetlow in? Tim has a lot more experience surely? I’d drop Steve lee for tetlow.

Surely its because Neil is an astute businessman that we haven’t had players of this quality and likely cost. Just look at attendance figure they have risen to a point where without a season ticket I almost certainly cannot sit in the first 5 rows even if buying on release day. And like the game tonight and next week they are reasonably full. Yes some may be giveaways but don’t forget you can probably write these of against tax so still miney in the bank. So now you know you can reduce costs and still get the punters in this is what you will do if it is a business. I would argue how sustainable this model is but then i would of said this five years ago and been proved wrong for five years.
