A loss will dent us badly before a much needed home tie which will be the last CUP round robin game.Let's hope we don't leave it that late to qualify. But qualification is a mathematical nightmare this season if your following the whole affair. Calculators out next week.

Calculators out next week. How do they figure out who gets the places, points percentage? Ok, this may seem a little complicated in places. The bottom teams in the 4 team groups automatically are out. This takes you down to 9 teams. The results of the other teams in these groups get readjusted, so say your team beat the bottom team twice they will then loose those 4 points.. The teams who win each of the groups will be the first three seeds based on points, all the other teams will then be seeded 4-9 based on points, after the readjustments, with the team finishing 9th being eliminated. It will then be 1v8, 2v7, 3v6 and 4v5 in the quarter finals. Hope this had made sense

What form are they in? Got a good going over in Fife tonight by the look of things. Storm came to Fife with only 14 players plus 2 netminders. Finnerty took a time out at 4-0 and they then became a typical Finnerty team, tried to be far too aggressive and intimidate Flyers and started to get into penalty trouble but Flyers were excellent and were able to give ice time to our fringe players including the back up

By finishing ranked first after the qualification stage of the competition the highest seeded team has earned the right to choose its opposition from the teams placed fifth to eight. The second placed team picks next from the team left in the 5-to-8-group, then the third placed team picks from the teams left and finally, the team placed fourth after the qualification stage plays the team that has not been picked yet. Home Ice option remains with the first to fourth placed team.

Calculators out next week. How do they figure out who gets the places, points percentage? As Elite describe it..... The top seeded team from group A, B and C automatically move on to the Knockout stage seeded 1 – 3 according to their total points. The remaining six teams are ranked 4 – 9, with the 9th placed team not progressing to the Knockout stage of the competition. The seedings for the knockout stages of the competition are finalized based on the following criteria: i. Total number of points. ii. Total number of games won in regulation time. iii. Total number of all games won (regulation, overtime and penalties). iv. The results of games played between the relevant teams by applying points won, games won in regulation time, all games won (regulation time/overtime/penalties), in that order of priority. Not applicable due to the group stage nature of the event v. Fewest regulation losses. vi. Using away games: – points won, games won in regulation time, all games won (regulation time/overtime/penalties), in that order of priority. vii. Goals scored. viii. Goal Difference ix. Fewest Penalty Minutes (Fair Play) x. In the unlikely event of teams still being equal, teams will be ranked by the drawing of lots. Any prize monies determined by the position in a league or group by this means will be shared equally by the tying teams. xi. Where a group of two or more teams is tied, then whenever a team can be eliminated due to the above order of priority, it shall be, by applying each of the above stages in order of such priority.

Trying to work out the permutations and gave up. But 4 points with 2 regulation wins will be enough in almost all likely scenarios.

In fact for Panthers, a regulation win in either game will be enough to qualify in second place. Storm’s win in Sheffield was after penalty shots, so a second regulation win would break a tie on 4 points. Storm need a regulation win plus an OT point to be certain of qualifying but 5 points any way would probably be enough for one of the best third-place spots. Four points might well be enough.

Note Sheffield qualified also as even if we take the top spot and are one of the three taking seeds 1.2.3 places...the next places 4-9 (nine being a non qualifier) have Sheffield above what will be a ninth placed team.Similar to others in that situation who won't be ninth..

I reckon we'll play Garnett for this one, then put Gospel in if we qualify for the dead rubber game.
I'm also conscious that Panthers haven't released any 'team news' articles or tweets which normally suggest they'll tell us at the 11th hour that we're missing bodies...

What is sure is that a Finnerty team will provide a bruising encounter in a small rink. I thought Tetlow has shaped up well when he has iced and its good to have him to fall back on.

Hazeldine should play tonight too. Big extra body on D and hasn't looked out of place to me in the few appearances he's had so far this season.

Yup even more bizarre is that tonight it doesn't affect their ticket sales as we re away. I can see at least Panthers have 3 out tonight

Well you took four points from Storm on opening weekend when we were basically icing two lines, so it’ll be nice to see a depleted Panthers roster tonight for a change!

It's pretty pathetic tbh I can only imagine their reasoning is 'tactical' although I'm sure Finnerty's tactics of "if we can't beat them, beat them up!" will still apply regardless of who's missing.
