In front of 8,000 people who have paid a fiver after a lot of hype... 9252 actually. But yes you’re right,it is extremely funny after all the hype. PMSL 😂😂 Even funnier was that 2 of MK's 3 goals were scored by ex-Steelers... and one of them got an assist on the third! Wonder what Thommo's excuses are for this one...

On the two major incidents.
From this side, looked like sticking up for an (initially) unwilling combatant rather than third man in, but I didn’t have a clear view so will have a look at the highlights.
The melee in front of block 2 was caused by a Panthers player coming in with an enormous high crosscheck.

I will concede that the penalty that finally led to the winning goal was completely unnecessary on Moffatt’s part.

The first of the brawls looked to occur as a Storm player attempted to slash the puck out of Garnett's glove as he iced it, so Billingsley ploughed straight through the back of him. Not entirely sure why Olsen got 2+2 and only one Storm player got a penalty. Should've been at least 2 players from both sides in the box, and nobody during the first incident should've got a 2+2. The second brawl, I can understand why Lepine got 2+2, he essentially no choiced the Storm player but I do think the Storm player would've dropped the gloves had it been a second longer, but still, he then got jumped from behind and that should've also been a 2+2 in my eyes. I'm surprised we only saw one actual fight from tonight, tomorrow will be an interesting game that's for sure.

Looked like one of those where the defending team say the goalie needs protection and the attacking Team say the puck was there to be won. If Billingsley charged through the numbers then where was his 2+10 for checking from behind? If Lepine no choiced the Storm player then he should have sat 2+5+10 for instigating.

If Lepine no choiced the Storm player then he should have sat 2+5+10 for instigating. no... mainly bc that wasn’t the case but still no. It’s a illegal move to duck a hit. The NHL cracked down on it majorly when it happened maybe 2/3 seasons ago causing a bad injury. Lepine retaliated and deserved his penalty but it’s should have been even each side if not more to the storm imo. The one where Billingsley “ran through his numbers” was more of a cross check from what I saw. Similar to what Rheault did to martinelli last week but this was after the whistle. Then one of our players got lied on for a while with a storm player holding him down. ( didn’t see who they were). Imo it should have been equal penalties again or maybe more to storm (not being biased) the slash on garnett was a clear penalty imo, goalies need protection from the refs 2. Our defenders stood up for our Nettie. I’m sure urs would have too. In fact they did in the first I believe pushing Guptill around. And ur penalties u took elsewhere where stupid penalties. I think ur lack of discipline cost u there. I was absolutely stunned to see Bakker complain at his penalty in the third 😂 I think he forgot there was 2 refs. I’m shocked linden springer didn’t get a penalty while we were on a 5-3. I think If it wasn’t a 5 on 3 it would have been a penalty. Probably got some leeway tho. Tomorrow will definitely be interesting tho.

Really enjoyed the game last night, i thought storm played a brilliant road game with a very short bench, the played hard in the own d zone and kept us to the outside trying to hit us on the break. Not a lot garnett could do for the storm goal stevie stepped up and missed his man. Garnett was brilliant again and looks a completely different netminder to last season, lets hope this continues. 2 points is 2 points and we got the win in the end.

Well that was interesting. Wasn't aware of the changes in the rule book where 3rd man in & spearing in the back gets the receiving team 2+2's. Fascinating to witness. Made hard work of that, Storm played a smart game. Their keeper was stellar, as was Garnett. They're a edgy team, guess in their coaches style. But fair play to them, certainly fun to watch a bit of aggro. Tomorrow could be very tasty. Our powerplay was painful at times, but the kill was good on both sides. Onwards & upwards I suppose. Clarke's number retirement was a bit uninspiring, the banner reveal a bit amateurish. Typical Panthers, almost. The banner is definitely smaller than the last one & not as clear from the top of block 11...!! Also, how flaming long was the first period break, felt like 30 mins...!? Kovacs MoM was a mystery, should have been Garnett. Fox Factor - B minus. With regard to the banner. I found it quite disrespectful to firstly put the retired shirts as what seems an after thought at the bottom and then go and compound it by dumping the bloody bear in front of the shirts so they were completely obscured, but surprise surprise you could still clearly see the sponsors logo. Those players played for years and years and quite literally gave sweat and blood for the club. The club go on about how it's a great honour to have the shirt retired and they don't do it lightly but then not only do they do on a crappy banner they do it badly.

That's about right for me, except the enjoyment bit. That was hard to watch and Panthers looked a different side to the last 4 weeks. I'm assuming you all noticed the shuffling of wingers (oh, the horror!) and short benching in the third? Storm could, and probably should, have taken at least one point, if not two, from that game and have really only themselves to blame. If anyone's thinking that Panthers are already title contenders, they need to think again, on that performance. Storm looked faster than Panthers, passed better, and were definitely not intimidated by Panthers' size. Both goals on the PP (one a 2 man advantage) is one to file, and the near 2 minutes of 5 on 3 was shambolic. Tonight's game could be a very good character test indeed.

We kept creating and were very solid at the back. People complain about the power play but I saw a stat - we are running at 33.33% on the PP this season. And 100% on the PK. Grinding out a win against a stubborn team is actually a good thing for us. You’ve got to win in different ways through out the season and I’m glad we kept composed and got the win

That was a good test for us and incorrect to say we won’t be contenders just because we didn’t play them off the ice. We seem to have a solid goalie and defence which is what you can build a good title challenge with. We’re not going to play brilliantly every game but if we’re still grinding out wins when not at our best then that’s a good sign and what rich made reference to in his recent interview. This was the sort of game that panthers usually had the knack of losing in the last minute rather winning

Not the hardest and maybe not even a proper slash, but definitely has a second bite of the cherry after Garnett has clearly covered it. He's a professional hockey player and knows what will always come of that. However the call on Olsen is shown for how ridiculous it is, definitely knocks down the Storm forward after he's swiped at by Garnett, but then is taken out by Springer (I think) WWE style who then tries to unload while he's on top of Olsen, yet somehow Olsen picks up the extra. Also if you're giving an instigating penalty to Lepine, you need to be looking at giving a third man in to Storm (highlights don't show it as it was behind the play and only go to the fracas once the extra man has jumped in). However, as the Storm players wouldn't drop them with Lepine ythe refs aren't going to be giving 5 for fighting or instigator penalties so roughing is correct and a 2+2 fair IMHO.

Reality check of a game. It appears nothings going to be easy, and that’s a good thing for the league.

Why is it a reality check? Who's under any illusions that things are going to be easy? Fact is we won. End of. Doesn't matter if it was pretty or ugly but whoever wins the league is going to have to do both. I think this is possibly going to be one of the most exciting and competitive seasons in the Elite League era. I think the gap between 1st and last will maybe be the closest its ever been and there doesn't seem to be the massive gulf between the arena teams and the rest that there used to be.

And it was springer who come flying in and blindsided Olsen, after the slash on Garnett, yet Olsen came out worse on that occasion.

If you look at the highlights by the time camera pans to the incident Lepine has the guy that ducked plus Springer in front of him

Storm were impressive last night, let down only by the increasing stupidity of various offences (well, duh - coach Finnerty!). Strong, fast, skilled, they had a plan and they stuck to it - shut us down as much as they could and then go for it every chance they got. Which they did. Aided and abetted in no small part by a netminder who was both good and lucky (the best kind!) - thoroughly deserved his MoM. I really enjoyed that game... it would be boring if we just absolutely dominated every team, every game - I pay my money to go and watch a game of ice hockey which is ideally competitive and entertaining - well, we got that last night. As Pies points out... the PP isn't doing badly at all right now (early days, I know...) and the PK has been airtight so far - last night giving us plenty of chances to try it out! But there's something else I noticed... as with several of the other games we've seen already, the Panthers are winning face-offs for fun. I don't know what the actual stats are, but we keep on winning a lot of them. There are plenty of positives to take from what we've seen so far... which doesn't mean that we're guaranteed anything, but it's certainly a good sign.

I’m really pleased to hear that despite not being on our A game we still took the points. Last year we were tonked out of sight when this happened.
Lovely free flowing stuff pre-season and getting one over the bell-ends up the road does not make a season. I’ve no doubt that the coach will analyse the game ( Corey often gave the perception of lessons not being learnt) and react accordingly.
I would guess a different Panthers will take the ice tonight

just had a look at the highlights of last nights game, you guys may not like these comments but anyway the fights in particular it doesn't look anywhere near a slash on when Garnett has the puck in his glove, I'm all for protecting your netminder but your d went over the top especially Olsen who threw a punch at the storm player from behind him? and Lepine had no chance of playing the puck when he steamrolled through the storm player because the puck wasn't there, so you can hardly be surprised the storm players came flying in as did panthers players
