I still think its (another) lifeline for the Caps. Have to say it seemed very underhand what the Racers were doing. Just shows even as Scottish hockey chairman you don't always get what you want. Am I right in thinking its our board (Smith, Kelman, Black etc) who has decided this? How was it "underhand"? (I see what you did there!) The rink put the ice time out to tender, two parties bidded and the one with a decade track record of farce & failure lost it. Not really far-fetched is it? Some pretty startling quotes in this article from the Racers. Now I'm not saying they should have got any sort of automatic entry to the league. To not even getting to present their plan to the EIHL in person, or to even talk about it with any questions etc, and have it all done by e-mail is something you'd expect at Rec league level, not the "professional" EIHL. Did rather seem to be presented as a fait accompli, wouldn't you think they'd at least make sure they had the support before going public with it, before bidding for the ice? I'm not surprised the rest of the clubs weren't keen to do business with them.

I can see why the league would say no to this rival organisation essentially trying to push an existing member of the league out. On the other hand, this is the Capitals. They have consistently been awful for the 10+ years I've been following the league. This season they went into liquidation. Unless there is significant change again (!) I see no change in the Capitals. And that's if they do find ice time somewhere. I can also see why the rink have had enough of the Capitals, as has been suggested in the article.

I’m in agreement regarding the Caps. They’ve had long enough to put their house in order and done nothing about it. They aren’t a viable business at present and devalue the league. Hull could easily put up a fight as much as the Caps could and they have grown year on year. Personally if no club is ready to make the jump up then don’t just have a 12th team for the sake of it. Give them another year in the way MK and Guildford had a year to prepare if it’s necessary for them to be competitive. We can make 11 teams work one way or another for a season. The league can’t be held back by Scottish teams any more. They spat their dummy out last off-season and got their way but I don’t want to see that happen again.

Belfast Braehead Dundee Fife Hull Manchester Nottingham Sheffield Cardiff Coventry Guildford Milton Keynes I’m sure Belfast and Cardiff would be happy with this, Fife and Dundee (I imagine) will complain at the additional travel costs to Belfast and Hull would be the whipping boys of that conference unless they managed to get a decent squad together. I do agree that it’s the best setup though😂

from the above setup it will be many years given the massive advantages that would play out for cardiff and belfast that either steelers or panthers would win the league..
Tbh one league one setup play each other 3 times home and away season done... best team would win end of...

And, the rest of the schedule could bolster a better CUP and PLAY-OFFS as we've said for seasons now.

Too many league games, 10 team to play 6X =60 games or change the Challenge cup to a all in the hat knockout, with a bit of luck 1 of the lower teams could be in with a chance

If it's going to be 3 conferences again then the only fair way of doing it is to move Manchester to the Scottish conference and put hull in their place with Coventry mk and guildford. Abit unfair on storm travel wise but to keep the league as competitive as possible with the conference system. Maybe cut the league down to 3 home and 3 away in conference and 2 home 2 away against the rest. I'd much prefer a straight league though.

Belfast Braehead Dundee Fife Hull Manchester Nottingham Sheffield Cardiff Coventry Guildford Milton Keynes Looks a decent effort and i'm sure there would be issues with whichever way things get sorted. Main issues I can see with this set up is lots of flights for Dundee. Cardiff win the league by even more than usual and Belfast comfortable in 2nd.

How does this sound :-
Belfast Cardiff MK Guildford
Nottingham Sheffield Coventry Hull
Manchester Braehead Fife Dundee
No one sided conferences. Someone has got to go to the Scottish conference. May as well be Manchester as its similar difference to scotland as it is to Guildford so no major travel increase. All conferences have two top half and two bottom half (generally considered) teams

Either that or Manchester simply take Edinburgh's place and Hull take Manchester's

Unless they go for a north south confrence system.
North: Fife Dundee Braehead Manchester Hull Belfast
South: Shefield Notts Cardiff Cov Mk Guildford
Ofc Belfasy are the obvious winner from a competition point of veiw.

Black made a statement at the fans forum 2017 when Lightning and Flames came into the elite league, "Forget the idea of 4 and 2 for conference and none conference" people will just have to get used to it!

Do Murrayfield Racers have the right of appeal against the EIHL or is it not worth the bother as they have already made their minds up as to what they are doing to get a 12th club in the league.
