Were they, even though it was Italy & Slovenia who were in the Top Division?

In terms of the world ranking, Slovenia and Kazakhstan are 15 & 16 respectively, so you'd probably have them as favourites. Italy are 19th though.
At this level presumably there can be a bit of yo-yoing between this and the world group, similar teams swapping places each year etc.

Now 2-3 down. Poland missed a penalty shot. 20 to go.

Big result, puts us in a good position with Italy and Hungary games to finish.

Big result, puts us in a good position with Italy and Hungary games to finish. If Hungary beat Slovenia in regulation time tonight, there is no chance of GB getting relegated - avoiding such was the primary objective this year.

Looking on a promotion. Italy winning today puts them in the frame with us and Kaz. We have to win another game anyway , so start with Italy and we'd have a good position between us three (Ita/GB/Kaz) having beaten Slovenia at the start. Thinking positive.
Shields goal now puts him ONE goal behind the all-time record held by Gerry Davey at 43.

Quick question - would Brendan Perlini not be eligible to play for GB, and if so why why why are we not on his case to get him playing?

If we beat Italy, what a good chance for us if Poland had beaten Hungary ( a dog fight of a game) tomorrow. Deflated the home nation might not have much fight? and it should be a great last game for us.

I believe if Hungary lose in regulation tomorrow and we beat Italy in regulation Friday we get a top 2 finish as Hungary won't be able to catch us and we'd win a head-2-head against the three teams that could.

We’re one win from Canada which is frankly terrifying.
It’s an interestinG tournament. The parity is insane. Italy beat Poland who beat Kazakhstan who beat GB who beat Slovenia who beat Hungary who beat Italy. Everyone is about the same, and nobody looks out of place.
In terms of GB, we’re getting a lot of praise from the locals for our speed, but it’s pretty obvious what our weakness is - fitness! We run out of steam pretty quickly and fade off, but the third period v Poland was a masterclass.
The only real disappointment in the team is Dallas Ehrhardt who frankly looks like he’s never played hockey before. Stupid penalties, one of the worst passers I’ve ever seen and cannot track a forward to save his life.

Just to play Devils advocate with Erdhardt, it’s his first time playing hockey on mainland Europe, other than a 9 game stint in France, so I imagine it’s been a bit of a transition for him. We all saw the massive teething problems we’ve had over the years with the transition. We’re lucky in the fact there’s more experience than we’ve ever had but I’m sure he’ll learn. He has to otherwise he won’t make next years team.

Hungary beat Poland 3-2 so we'll be in 1A even if we lose the next 2 games. Fantastic achievement but it could be better depending on the Italy/Hungary games.

This time last week, we’d have taken avoiding relegation. Imagine if we manage to beat Italy tomorrow. It’s incredible.

Do you mean 'if we even win the next two games'...in which case we win two and Slovenia win one over Italy and lose one over Kazakhstan..........

The possible permutations are still enough to make your head explode - depending upon other results it is allegedly still a very small possibility that GB could still be relegated, although there is some dispute over this.
Obviously if we get another win then we are guaranteed to be safe.
Then there is the (small but real) chance of promotion... do we even want this? A great achievement and would no doubt be a great experience in many ways... but with the overwhelming likelihood of getting thrashed by the big boys and coming straight back down again. The GB team are improving, but still need time for this overall very young team to get more experience at this level before seriously looking at mounting a proper challenge to the top level.
Short term burst of glory vs long term plan. I can see good and bad in both.

Seth Bennett agrees that we're not safe: Basically we could tie with Kazakhstan and Poland where we'd lose on goal difference.
