This is a step up in competition.
Any team can beat another but there are too many variables to consider the outcome of any specific game next year.
France are a good side and I think we'll need to be at our best.
I said we'd pick up 3 wins in 1A, we got that and more. I unfortunately didn't predict correctly the 3 teams I thought we'd beat.
If we can get at least 1 then I'll be happy.

Let's be brutally honest here... every single one of the teams we'll be facing is - on paper, anyway - noticeably better than GB. Faster, stronger, more skilled, better-funded, etc... they out-match us in nearly every respect. France may well be our best chance for points... but they are no mugs, and it's going to be a very tough fight. The overwhelming probability is that we will do exactly the same as Belarus and South Korea did this year... not even get a point and come straight back down again.
HOWEVER...
Before the Budapest tournament, you'd have given pretty much the same odds against GB getting promoted. Get gold? - are you kidding?? - NOBODY saw that coming. Seeded 6th from 6, we beat Slovenia (seeded 1st), Italy and Hungary... all of whom have been recent residents of the top level. The strength and fortunes of individual teams go up and down over the years... if GB can continue to rise and one or more of our opponents can fall... who knows?
Make no mistake, the odds are against us - but when are they not?
We have a golden opportunity to shift those odds a bit. Normally it is 2 weeks between the Finals weekend and the Worlds - enough time for a very short training camp and a couple of warm-up games. A pitiful lack of preparation, every year. This time, there will be a gap of 5-6 weeks. How much better could GB play if they get chance to train and play together for a month? And if the EIHL actually observe the international breaks, letting GB get some work in during the season?
Our fate, as always, is in our own hands.
