Practically speaking we’ll be playing McDavid, Draisaitl, Karlsson, Lane, Ekman-Larsson and the like and it won’t be pretty but my god it’ll be fun. This has been worth every second of hangover and recovery and travel and drum beats. Being an Oilers fan it’s a double edged sword, whilst wanting to see McDavid, Draisaitl, Nurse, Klefbom and all, I would much prefer them to still be going for Mr Stanley!! But hey, never thought I would have this dilemma!! I just moved over to Edmonton about a month and a half ago and I have to say, it puts our Panthers grievances in perspective. The whole city is disenfranchised with the Oilers. Still an absolute privalige to see the likes of Mcdavid play live.

A bit previous I know, but are Team GB Supporters club likely to be running a trip next year? I'll put my house on it. Follow the GB supporters website. Been going since 1993 I believe and every season since. That included the last Pool A (now WC top tier) division. blog.gbsc.co.uk/Yes, GBSC will be running a trip to Slovakia next year. That is definite (barring something stupid happening with the IIHF or whatever). HOWEVER... We don't have confirmation of which group GB will be in, and therefore whether we will be in Bratislava or Kosice, nor confirmation yet of the actual dates. Nor do we yet know if IHUK/GBSC will get any kind of ticket allocation (and if so, how many tickets) or whether it will just be a free-for-all with individuals having to buy their own. It's highly likely that these unanswered questions (and probably others that I haven't thought of) won't get answered until after the IIHF Congress at the end of this year's World Championships in Denmark next month. Maybe not immediately after, as well... we just don't know. I'm not one of the GBSC committee, but I do know them - and I know how much hard work they have to put in to get one of the 'normal' GB trips sorted out... next year is going to be anything but normal! So don't be surprised if it takes a little while for things to be announced or sorted out... this is going to be a mammoth task for all concerned, and there are factors both on and off the ice that neither IHUK nor GBSC have ever had to face before. We're all just going to have to be patient...

Also, Bowns was clearly the best goalie there all week - travesty that he’s been robbed of that. But I’m sure he won’t care! Was he? If you go by the stats, it actually looks as if the Swedish Kazakhstan goalie was the best... from what I saw (all but the Poland vs Hungary game live, and I watched most of that on TV) they probably got it right - the Hungarian goalie was superb all of the way through. Bowns was also damned good, and bailed GB out on a number of occasions, including stopping two penalty shots... but he had a few oopses as well. Very close, but the Hungarian bod probably just edged it. Shame for him that his team didn't, eh?

You know, the funny thing about that last game... it was actually GB's worst team performance of the entire tournament.
Just looking at the stats, you'd probably say that it was the Kazakhstan match that was worst - after all, we did lose 6-1. Not so... the GB team came out just as hard and determined as the game vs Slovenia two days before... but Kazakhstan were just rampant - including a phenomenal sniper shot just over Bowns' shoulder with very, very little space on offer - but he got the puck there regardless. That 6-1 scoreline doesn't really reflect the course of the game, GB fought them every inch of the way.
The game vs Hungary, however... GB came out sluggish and lacking in focus. It was almost painful to watch at times. Hungary were a lot fresher, seeing as the Hungarian hockey federation had screwed around with the tournament schedule to give themselves the best chance they could, and they'd had an extra days rest - and it showed. It wasn't until Dowd sneaked our first goal past Vay that GB really woke up... the team had done well to largely contain Hungary, but that was all. Dowd's goal changed all of that and the last 10 minutes of the game were by far GB's best.
In some ways, this showed the real spirit of the GB team - we got the last-minute equaliser near the end of a poor game after basically fighting our way out of the mire we'd got ourselves into. You just can't buy that... No doubt some (mainly in Hungary!) will say that the result didn't truly reflect the course of the game... possibly not. But the end result - and the reward of gold & promotion - most certainly DID truly reflect the efforts of the GB team throughout the tournament.

If the 2019 World Championships follows the same pattern as last year we could know what group and city we are in before the end of May. Ticket packages went on sale almost immediately and day tickets in September. Many games didn’t sell out and you can still buy them on ticketmaster now.

One factor to consider on that last... this year's Worlds is being held in Denmark - very expensive. Next year's Worlds is being held in Slovakia - much, much cheaper. That will surely affect demand for tickets...

But I expect they will be cheaper in Slovakia.

I would expect most or all of those to be much cheaper in Slovakia that in Denmark. When you're talking about a 16-day trip, it soon adds up!

Oh for sure. I’ve been to Denmark myself a couple of times so know how costs mount up. I would imagine Slovakia is considerably cheaper for everything.

Going to Copenhagen for a couple of trips over the coming weeks for the worlds. Ticket prices aren’t too bad a day ticket for 3 games cost approx £70 which considering the event and standard on offer isn’t bad per game. Although as stated above not looking forward to the monumental sized crater that will be my bank account after trying to buy a drink in Denmark!
Slovakia should hopefully be a much more cost friendly trip all round!

Wouldn't be the worst idea to make preliminary hotel bookings in Bratislava and Kosice as soon as the hotels start taking bookings for next year. Free cancellation and guarantee yourself accommodation in one of the two cities, then cancel the other upon the groups being decided. It's a 16 team tournament, with 15 of the nations certain to be requiring hotels. If you want to go, I'd book as soon as possible.
You've got Bratislava on the border of Austria too, not too far from Vienna and not a million miles from Brno in Czech Republic. I have no idea what the border checks would be like, if any at all but they could serve as alternate options for people.

From what Shaggy said on the other post then we will currently get the following: GB Canada Finland Czech Swiss Norway France Latvia IF I'm right on that - not completely sure - then that could be an interesting draw for the team... and entertaining for the fans, but would probably have us in the group in Kosice - you can bet that whichever group Slovakia are in will play in Bratislava - which would be much better for the fans off the ice. France could be beatable... possibly Latvia as well, maybe even Norway. 1 win could avoid relegation if that team lost to everyone else, 2 wins would mean a greater than even chance of staying up.

I know Wikipedia isn't reliable but we're in Group B for next year and Canada will be in our group along with France, Denmark and Norway plus others TBD.

I know Wikipedia isn't reliable but we're in Group B for next year and Canada will be in our group along with France, Denmark and Norway plus others TBD. That might actually turn out to be true, but as you say - Wikipedia isn't reliable. The IIHF Congress has started, but nothing has yet been announced on the groups for next year (not that I can find, anyway)... and we've seen too many times in the past the 'obvious' answer turn to be wrong to trust anything unofficial. The important bit for us fans is to know whether we will be in the same group as hosts Slovakia. If so, we will almost certainly be in the group based in the capital Bratislava, because that will be where Slovakia will want to play... if not, we're likely to be in Kosice at the other end of the country. In all likelihood we will know for sure today or tomorrow.

We've got USA, Canada, Finland, Slovakia, France, Germany and Denmark.
I'm guessing we would fancy our chances against France, possibly Denmark and Slovakia (If we catch them off guard)
The Germany match might get us some decent press coverage due to the rivalry I suppose.

Great group for them to compete with. Will be a brilliant experience for players and fans. Think Switzerland host in 2020 so we just have to edge out one of them to avoid an instant return, if it could be France that'd be lovely
