Away from the game itself what I find difficult to understand is how there is a security search at the NIC before matches, but not at the Sheffield Arena. I also had a brief encounter with DS - re the conference system. His final riposte was that the winner of the league was going to be from Cardiff, Belfast, Sheffield and Panthers anyway and did I want to bet on it.

Game has some nice highlights with Orange Ben for the Steelers.
And that goal from that Russian 22 year old....filthy goal.
What's that kids story? Don't see too many 22 year old M/VHL products in the EIHL?

What a great Hockey game, Nottingham are on fire and will do well to stay at that level but that being said early signs are they look good and should be contenders this year. Sheffield clearly have a lot of character and team spirit to play like that. Will be really close between the two all season. Really like Sauve D man apologies if the name is incorrect for Panthers and Nelson for steelers was awesome. What's this about going after Armstrong nonsense from last season, watched the playoff game on YouTube and it was clearly not intentional and happens quite a lot in the game.

Thought you took your chances in the first, and kept us to the outside when we came forward - the Dowd goal was an exception.
We kept plugging away and were huge on the forecheck, stripping pucks and forcing defensive errors. Was it us playing well in those occasions, or you guys getting sloppy?
Sorry for Gospel, as he's obviously still a bit of a hero in Sheffield, but winning in the last second and waving off the oppo fans is always rather nice!!
After watching the Bern game, I still put you favourites for the league, but there's a loooong way to go. (And at least neither of us got turned over by the newbies)

Very disserpointed that no one went for Armstrong, it was a nothing game. Gagnon no choicing and injuring him would have reignited the rivalry nicely.

I didn't expect a reaction against Armstrong for what happened at the end of last season. Different team his year and you just have to let that one go at some point. Our lack of reaction to him hitting Gospel on the head after the whistle was disappointing the one that I wasn't as content about. Again I think it was accidental, his shooting motion had begun before the whistle had been blown but I want this years team to show a precedent that if you hit our goalie, accidentally or not there will be a price to pay. We didn't have our most physical line on at the time but I still want our goalie to know those in front of him have his back. We did it against Coventry when Garnett got a tap the night before but not on Sunday when they had the chance for Gospel.

Not strictly true. The grand slam team were terrible early in the season. I even remember people calling for Ling to be gassed. It was only when Lepine came back did our fortunes change. It just proves what poor memories people have Amen to that. Ling had a very slow start that year. And when Panthers lose 5-1 one rainy night in Edinburgh, or Dundee, or Guildford, they'll have a different kind of poor memory then. Even Joe Root gets ducks now and again.

I've had a few days to sit and think about this and I can honestly say the loss hasn't bothered me that much. Which is odd but it's one bad performance (I mean we still scored 5 goals on their starter, so offensively it was decent) but in other games against them, I don't think there will be a turkey shoot like that.
The Steelers have won the first battle - in the war over the season, I think it will be ours to win. Fact is, Steelers want to make quips after 2 wins against back ups in the last 2 games, then we need to bring them into our barn and show what we're about.
Happy days everyone, still a lot of hockey to be played!

Regarding Joe Root - perhaps a better analogy - he has 11 consecutive scores over 50 - but I do know what you mean. We have played quite a lot of hockey already, but a hell of a lot to come!

Just a point of fact, he eventually had 12 consecutive test matches where he scored over 50 in at least one innings, equalling a world record. Not 12 (or 11) consecutive 50s. The most actual consecutive innings of 50 or above in test matches is 7, shared by 6 players, none of them English.
