What happened to the team that played in the CHL? Two very unconvincing games this weekend. A lot of EIHL teams in the past have gone into slumps post CHL. See what the next few games bring results wise. Losing in last few seconds brings back unwanted memories of losing to Steelers in last few seconds in the Superleague era.... More than once. Was Garnett actually on the bench tonight? I notice it's gone all quiet on having a third Goalie..... Oh well regroup and prepare for next week. It's all we can do.... yeah garnett was on the bench.

Garnett was on the bench, you could see him on line changes in breaks of play, was Gagnon benched in the third period? D was poor tonight, the Spang Lee pairing was terrible and Gagnon Mosey wasn't much better. A few stand outs from tonight being Gospel Mok Shalla Perlini. Let's hope this weekend has been a case of over exertion from the CHL and the boys get some good rest in this week, smart practices and the conditioning coach does his bit. Tonight's game was just one of those odd events. Draw a line under the weekend and let's look ahead to next Saturday.

Scoring 5 in Sheffield is a big positive. However that was totaly over shadowed by the defensive display.
Thats the area that really stood out in the CHL games. We were so tight and teams had to work hard to break us down. Tonight i dont blame Gospel. We scored the nicer goals and played the better stuff going forward. But we just didnt protect sam. Several of thier goals were off srappy play were they put the puck.on net and our out skaters dodnt collaspe properly and win the puck.
Having said all that i still quite happy. I thought this weekend might be abit tough. We got the league points out of it and as long as we pull our finger out no real damage done in the cup. I hope this is the reality check we need. You cant cruise in this league. Teams will punish you for it.
Need to get back to defending as a 5, and defending hard and physical. Just annoying giving Steelers a moral boost. That game should have been dead and burried at 0-3. Thats what the glandslam team would have done, and thats the standard im holding this team to.

Strange old game. We failed to clear the zone so many times, all our DMen were culpable at different stages and I think three of the Steelers goals were a direct result of turning the puck over in our zone, twice behind our own net.
Mokh's goal was special, he looks a real find.
Gospel couldn't have done much more really, good for him to get some minutes under his belt, made a couple of fine saves in the third.

It could be worse, you could be Belfast! If Garnett plays we win tonight it's that simple. If Gospel can't play in these games when can he play.
I don't know about others but I want league points over Cc qualification!

How many times did our captain give the puck away? Sometimes an almost direct pass. You just can't afford to keep doing that and win!

Sport finds a way of equalling itself out, we will have our own late goal against this lot later in the season, the hockey gods will see to that. And, itll be in a game that matters more than this one

It's way too early to judge this team. We'll get a decent idea of how good they are after 20 EIHL games, not after a few CHL games.

I don't think many people are actually making judgements, it's more disappointment after the strong showing in the CHL.

I think there will be some concerned people in Sheffield tonight, they only just beat us, at home, with our back up in and that was bearing in mind we gifted them a number of goals and we were very poor defensively. If Garnett was in net we would have won comfortably.
I hate to say it but Mosey has had a poor weekend, he was poor yesterday and then the same today. Also, Lee and Spang can NOT be paired together, they are a liability as a pair. I thought that making Lee captain would have had a positive effect on his ply but if he's going to play like he did tonight then Corey is going to look very foolish having chosen him. The D pairings need to be
Spang Billingsley Sauve Lee Gagnon Brisebois
Sauve needs to be paired with Lee, the best and worst defenseman.
The positive that we can take from tonight is that we were like a knife through butter going forward, and Mok's goal was sublime. There's a lot to come from this kid

Well defensively that was a bloody shambles. Stevie Lee was a complete liability. Gospel couldn't catch a cold. Clarkey needs to either wake up or retire. Mosey needs to start showing up.
And Simmsey needs to.....just shut up man !!!

I can only assume that our team didn't want a boring game at 3-0 because their first 2 goals were literal gifts.
A steelers mate said there was no way they would have won that had Garnett been in net, not concerned about the result but the defence (admittedly on both sides) was reminiscent of a 3rd/4th game at the playoffs.

To me, whilst I'm disappointed, it was a fun game to watch. Our defence didn't keep it simple enough tonight.
As daft as it sounds, realising we're not invincible could be a positive. Reality check was needed and the fact it's a cup game means it has no real bearing on anything in particular.
We'll still get through our group and we learnt some home truths about ourself tonight.
Though I don't think the Steelers celebrated that win enough...beating a back up goalie and acting like they've won the Stanley cup seems to be a habit of theirs. And usually, I'm not the bitter sort but the quip about "not the first time we've come back from 3 goals down" was just what sums them up. Just as ungracious in victory as defeat. I know which team I'm glad I support after that.

Not daft at all. Remember that 1-2 midweek home loss to a shorthanded Edinburgh team (12 out skaters IIRC) in the grandslam year? That was like a bucket of cold water in the face... but it worked. What else can you expect from a team whose mouthpiece is the biggest piece of scum in British ice hockey? And their coach isn't much better...

I will have to watch the highlights, but I find it really hard to blame Gospel, the defence really hung him out to dry, they were shocking, so think it is pretty poor to say he can't catch a cold! I thought it was a really strange game, zero atmosphere, zero niggle, was almost like a pre season game. Neither team had much fire, but Sheffield looked stronger in the closing stages and Moose buckled down. Overall, not too fussed, we should, touch wood, still qualify out of our group, but had that been a league game I would have been pretty swizzled off. Team does need to tighten that defence..... get Mosey back up front, he looks shaky at the back, for the life of me I can't understand why Lindhagen is not back in D and let Mosey loose up front, we need that speed, wearing down the opposition D.... Still lots of work to do this week...

How did Levi Nelson manage to play? I thought the Blaze half killed him last weekend? At least that's what all the usual squealing all over social media led me to believe. #prayforlevi

Still lots of work to do this week... I went tonight and I can't remember Gospel catching a single decent puck all game. He made some fair saves with his pads, but with Garnett in net he would have caught and frozen some of those shots that were rebounds off Gospel. Those rebounds then led to goals because the D didn't clear the puck. I've just watched the highlights from the Coventry game and whilst not as obvious as tonight, our D did exactly the same thing several times last night but Garnett bailed them out !
