Pay him £1000 a week for probably 12 weeks and he won't pay any tax.
Get him in any earlier and they'd have to pay him more to ensure he cleared £1000 a week as he'd be paying tax.
Skilful bit of penny pinching Gary. Well done. Obviously we've never seen this happen before. Well, apart from last season. Oh and the season before that.............

Maybe he simply doesn't want to leave his family this close to Christmas. I wouldn't.

Maybe he simply doesn't want to leave his family this close to Christmas. I wouldn't. Agree, and I wouldn't either. But then it seems likely they've agreed he starts on, maybe, 27th against Sheffield? But when signed we get "around Christmas", which suggests it could as easily be before as after. It's just another example of the Guffmeister doing his thing.

Can you avoid paying tax by going to another country and starting at point nought every time then? No attention ( I know it's out tax laws) to what a guy earns previously in a year....if so I see why these late/part season players are happy to move so often..,, Is there an opening for me in some sunshine state now till the end March then?I'll be back later.

He won't be in until after the Steelers game as he has family commitments, assume he wants to spend Christmas with his family. Will be in for the Blaze games.

Not being funny but if the contract is signed and paper work is ready he should be here. He shouldn't be allowed to stay home for Christmas and come over when he wants to. Don't see me ringing work like I've got plans I can't come in until December 30th.

But if you were starting a new job which was going to take you overseas would you ask for a delay? Completely different if you hold the cards.

The paperwork may have been completed a while ago, but perhaps it does state a start date in it.
Perhaps other clubs may have been after his signature as well that were not prepared to wait for him.

Panthers are just playing silly buggers so they can spout about early xmas presents later this week !

Seems odd for him to arrive before Christmas (would've thought he'd spend that at home with family and travel on Boxing Day), but will be good to see him on the ice against Dundee hopefully.

I have done quite a few short term contracts and know others that do and it is common to negotiate when you want to start. Especially around things like Christmas and Easter. I've delayed starting a 3 month contract for a few weeks so that I started after Easter and could spend the whole of the Easter school holidays with my girls.
A player of Wilson's quality who has also probably made a good amount of money in his career and doesn't need to be earning could quite easily decide to spend Christmas with his kids.
