Shmyrs menatlity is also interesting. He knows Payette will go in normal games. Andre and him were scuffling in warm up, and i suspect that Payette turned a fight down on the basis we were very short benched. Payette then plays the enforcer role with a fight on the spur of the moment, rather than the pantomime rubbish that most teams have served up this year. Payette then shouldn't fight after being ejected-and smear knows it. So what was he trying to achieve? Typical of both Shmyrs i have seen play. At least Ryan Shmyr has a mentality - he picks and chooses his fights according to what's good for the team. Cn you name one single thing about that entire incident where Payette could have had the good of the Vipers team in mind? And when exactly did Payette "play the enforcer role with a fight"? First he attacks McAslan from behind, knocking him to the ice and raining down the punches without Sean even having a chance to respond. Is that what you call a fight? That's not a fight, that's a simple cowardly blindsiding. Then he piles into Paul Moran who simply coldn't get out of the way, and rather than continuing on to his supposed target, Payette contents himself with doing his best to clobber Mopes. Exactly where was the "fight" there? Payette, an "enforcer"? Don't make me laugh. He's no enforcer. He's an out-of-control moron who seems intent on blindsiding and cheap-shotting his way through the league with absolutely no regard for the good of his supposed 'team'. I may have little respect for Rob Wilson (not least for signing Payette), but as far as I'm concerned, Payette isn't fit to wipe Wilson's backside.

Good job for Panthers that I left at the end of the 2nd. Rarely have I seen such bilge. You left in the middle of that? Awesome game. Almost a complete period of power-play including 2 minutes 5 on 3, without managing to score at least one goal? Doesn't rate as an awesome game in my book. I'm looking for some decent hockey not the Andre Payette bush league stuff.

Well if you had stayed until the end you might have had it. Just because things aren't going your way you up and leave.....nice one! It was awesome in my eyes as it was tense, close, edg of your seat type stuff. Entertainment, I believe some call it. What a sport should be all about.

With the attack on McAslan-His(mCaslan) actions were dangerous and he crossed the line. What happens if the puck hits Aubry in the mask and injures him? or any other player for that matter. McAslan knew what he was doing-I swear I heard the whistle from the away end-and he is far too experianced to not know what was coming next. Any enforcer worth his salt would do the same. What Andre did then was, as I said before, indefensible(sp). I am surprised he didn't get a ban-at the time, we thought it could be very serious-big number of games. When Payette plays well, he is one of the best, if not the best(maybe cruikshank ahead), power forward in the league. Check his points out-vastly superior to smear for a start. But, and especially in Nottingham for some reason, he is prone to moments of stupidity. He is basically our enforcer now-Cornish is neither use nor ornemant, and Ferone has far more useful jobs on the team, as Saturdays performance shows. Smear is a wind up merchant, like his brother. At least Payette, for all his short comings(and there are many) is an honest pro. I know most Panthers fans will never like Payette, for reasons which are irrelavent to this debate, and will never change their minds-My opinion of Smear is pretty much the same, but there are 2 sides to every story.

I would be suprised if mcaslan heard the whistle because i certainly didn't hear it and most people who i have talked to didn't hear it. Also you could tell by mcaslans eyes and the way he hit the shot that he didn't hear the whistle!!!!!McAslan is not that kind of player!!!!!

Shmyr a wind up merchant, I don't think so. Not seen him lose a fight this season, got the best of Payette in the previous NIC clash and put Cornish on his backside, hardly the actions of a wind up merchant.
The difference between Shmyr and Payette is Shmyr got a brain, Payette is a classless goon who doesn't know when to stop to the detriment of all around him, including his own team.
I still remember the hit on Kim Ahlroos, filthy and carreer ending. The clown can't even fight, he's just a mindless thug.

Rangers I read what you put on here often and most of it makes sense, you can see both sides of the argument and have an opinion and say it. But please if you are going to, can you spell Shymr's name correctly or are you just trying to wind us up. SHYMR = No1 enforcer of the league. SMEAR = what the No 1 enforcer does to other enforcer's noses on their faces.. ;D

Not commenting on Ryans fighting ability when calling him a wind up merchant-easily better than Jeremy 'glass jaw' cornish, and Payette. Without repeating myself, Payette can play good hockey-but he is prone to stupidity. There is no need to bring up the Kim incident. We all know what happened, and what you guys think of it. No doubt everyone who saw it has the same opinion. No doubt Rob Wilson has told him exactly what to do for the benefit of the team-hence his MOM performance next evening. And seriously, If mcaslan did not hear the whistle, see the lino signal and other players stop playing, then his vision is not that of a top player. The play could have been whistled for any reason-payette could have ended another career and urgant medical attention needed, and players should be ready for all circumstances.
Smear comes from what we used to call Jason Shmyr-normally with an expletive before it-in the pub after his dirty play against us in BNL. After Mark West, the most hated man in hockey for me.

Rangers you still in cloud cuckoo land Andre honest pro? with cheap shots and picking on easy targets, if you were here earlier this season you would have seen Your mate the great enforcer wimp out of more fight offers from ryan than i can count, and that was exactly why Ryan doing the chicken dance that was sooooooo funny, here at the NIC we all got the joke.
Just to check up what you were saying Cornish is useless, Ferrone is too important to be an enforcer, so its a case of open the stable and let the donkey out hey. Do i take it then that Ferrone must be more important to your team than andre am i right?
The other thing i have a problem with is the phrase any enforcer worth his salt,
could not agree more but that is not a description of the cowardly thuggish behaviour of a total goon who was a disgrace to british ice hockey on that night and also badly let down you and the useless cornish, and also wilson, and ferrone and everyone connected with the vipers. He also lost any respect that he had gained here in the playoff finals with Hockey fans at the NIC.
To answer the last bit the majority of fans here dont hate him, some times we laugh at him, sometimes we pity him, a lot of the time we have admired him, shame is so much talent but no brain and no controle of his temper, ( sort of guy you dont want to meet in a pub)

I'm being totally honest here rangers. After the incident I said to my wife, "I wonder if McAslan heard the whistle" because where we were sat in block 14 it was barely audible.

The play could have been whistled for any reason-payette could have ended another career and urgant medical attention needed, and players should be ready for all circumstances. I sit level with the goal, I saw the lino raise his arm for the offside, but as McAslan had gone past him on the blue line he would not have seen that. I did not hear a whistle as the crowd noise was raised due to us getting in to a scoring position. So there could be reason why McAslan carried on, it happened so quick and luckily the puck went in the net and did not hit Aubry. A point about Payette, in one of the earlier games against the vipers, Shymr hit the puck towards AP, he made a big thing out of it and RS got 2 mins for it. The puck was not traveling fast and it was on the ice. In the warm up in the last game, AP was skating around, one of the vipers player hit a puck towards AP. It hit his stick so hard he nearly knocking the stick from his hand. He just laughed at the player. If an opponent had done it he would have gone mad. I like to watch AP when he is an ice hockey player and his mind is on the game, but he lets himself down far too easily by trying to be something he is not.

Had McAslan hit Aubry in the mask then maybe Andres attack would of been that of any enforcer, bearing in mind the result of the shot was the puck in the net after the whistle it was completely ridiculous as the call from the ref proved. Don't see many enforcers picking up 5+Games for doing their job!!!
