It appears we've signed him from another team, not as a free agent. Now, to me that's interesting. If I were him, why would I want to leave a decent ish team with a regular income for a short term deal. I suspect he's here for the duration Sounded like Valpellice released him, from this posted yesterday by @pantherc on the other thread: Here's a dodgy bit of google translate from this link. The streets of Valpellice Bodino Engineering and Shane Madolora officially separate. That something was going on was already in the air last night, when the bus traveling to Val Gardena, was not present the American goalie. To give official confirmation is ds Fabio Armani: "In agreement with Shane we decided not to continue our relationship. Soon there may be already signing his replacement, but for the moment I can not name names. " Shane Madolora leaves Valpe after 24 games. A month ago the Valpe had decided to extend even a month his contract in the try-out, after a first renovation took place in November. Came in halfway, the goalie Californian has repeatedly held match the red and white, sometimes too lax on defense. It was the absolute star of the Final Four in Brunico, where he was named MVP of the game with Renon. Impeccable then in the final, in which he conceded just one goal in the Puster Valley. His adventure in Italy ends with the fourth place in the standings for doormen bailouts average with 91.0% and an average of 2.99 goals against per game. His last game with the jersey of Bulldogs was Monday against Asiago, unleashing one of his best games. Obviously all this was not enough to convince a "sacred monster" like Tom Barrasso, one of the best goalkeepers of all time. I see no reason not to believe the team that he's on a short term deal, not that that can't be extended of course.

I still say we should have 2 import netminders for the whole season as standard I think that's unrealistic tbh, do you really think we'd be able to get a couple of Miika's standard willing to spend half their time sat on a British hockey team's bench, or more likely in the stands? With the import limit going up again next year I could forsee a situation where a capable young European netminder could be our backup. Maybe not to the standard of a Wiikman or Kowalski but maybe a Conway/Modig type character.

Yes, can't see it happening though unfortunately. It certainly ought to happen. We signed Hardy, so clearly (a) the coach wanted another import D man and (b) funds were available to pay for it. Now, Hardy wasn't the right man so we cut him. But both of these two conditions are still applicable, added to which we have since lost two d-men to injury, one of them an import. The need is greater now than when Corey previously said we needed someone. But this is the Panthers so who knows. The last sentence of your post is why I'm not sure we will get a replacement as I think management will just take the "ah we're fine now we have an import netminder" approach.

Could always get in a goalie coach who can play if needed. Kind of like Hay in Sheffield. So he is involved in the day to day. This, I think, could be a decent opportunity for a NM looking to break into coaching. Maybe Kwall would fancy it

Looks a decent signing, but at least a month later than it should have been.
We should have two import goalies every year. In the Superleague days we had two,we didn't overspend or go bust either......yet that was on smaller average crowds than we get now.
Go figure that one out !!!!!!

I think at some point one or two other teams will do that as losing your import NM can cost a lot of points no matter who the other outfield players are *if* our league has asperations of climbing up to one or two of the other EU leagues.

Maybe in the future TFS, but in the current state of the Elite League I can't really see teams paying a guy who, under normal circumstances, won't dress. We could afford it (and ended up with it last year of course), but I can't see a team setting out like that from the off. I certainly won't be holding that against the Panthers, whether they could act with more haste when things begin to take a turn for the worse... Matt's idea about a goalie coach might work - although I can't see Panthers being too keen to pay for another coaching position

He's a good goalie and has posted good stats in the EPL. I think he could make the step up to the EIHL www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=50379

I don't think that this is points scoring on the part of DS - he has a point. I don't think it was intentional, but Corey's comment does quite sit right. Dan has one of the hardest jobs at the club. "It was about Dan "back to doing what you do best" Quote CN "David Simms @simmsey Can I just say that I love Greener to bits. The words used by CN are bang out of order. Dan is a top bloke."

Could've been worded a bit more carefully, but I'm sure Green knows what CN is saying there, as does Simmsy but he's having a stir.

He a great keeper at EPL level - a massive part of Phantoms challenging for the title this yr (and winning playoffs last yr). Solid rebound control, athletic and consistent. Should he leave us, I think he would be a big hit in the EIHL - He's also a bit of a personality - he's wound up a few opponents fans, and players - if he can cope with the step up (I think he could...) Would like him to finish this season at least with us though.

Would he fancy a dozen games over a season though? Any that age and ambition would want to be playing week in week out.

So Our Competitors Sign Quality Players At Short Notice... And So Do We Weeks and weeks to late and as a result putting out title ambitions in series jeporday, and we still need another D man... We never replaced Waugh who was out for weeks, and we never replaced Schultz and only now are we are only now doing something about our net minding situation that has been critical for well over a month.

I was being slightly facetious, but you don't know the extent of Mikka's injury. Who's to say he hasn't constantly been 1/2 days from returning but it never healed? You don't just replace someone the day they go down, especially when it's a bit hard to pinpoint like this.

What's Modig been up to this season? Netminders injury has hampered us for 3 seasons recently, surely worth a couple of hundred extra a week to ensure it doesn't happen again?

And my point was that the season has been littered with injuries and we have either done nothing or been too slow to act. Obviously I'm not the teams physio but it's been clear to everyone that there has been an issue with Miika. Delighted that you appear to be happy to let the team limp along, squandering a big lead at the top of the league, but personally I expect more from a club of our stature and if we lose the league at the end of March but 4-6 points then serious questions must be asked.

Hopefully will be a great signing because he will need to be. Our recent form has left us needing wins away from home against our main rivals. No cover on D and the dragging of heels over the netminding position has left us behind the eight ball.

Would you have been happy had we rushed and signed someone like Pinc though? In which case we would've ended up with an import nettie who more than likely would've led us to the same results Green did but with the added bonus of us wasting x amount of £'s. Or would you rather wait for someone currently playing, in form and potentially higher quality like Shane?

That shouldn't really affect him stopping pucks though, off-ice I can see that being an issue but on-ice he should have enough experience to not let that vex him into performing how he did early doors.

So Our Competitors Sign Quality Players At Short Notice... And So Do We this is a knee jerk reaction to I believe fan pressure and is hardly short notice as Wiikman has been on and mostly off for about a month now. Add to this the fact that what should have been our LEADING scorer was never covered and we never had cover all year. And now we are 2 plus the spart defenceman short so what was that panthers bringing in players short notice... I don't think so...
