The sour grape obsession with the Sheffield finances are really getting old now. Apart from the most recent owner who knows and who even cares?

good signing for Steelers, especially on a 2year deal although there is probably a get-out clause in case some-one comes a knocking offering big money.

Right Panthers - that's the (proven) quality of signing to match for next season.
Get on with it.

Do member think why Panthers lost a lot the grand slam 12/13 team because players asking for big pay increases?

Any comments re budgets, whether Panthers , Steelers, or any other club, are pure speculation as the league finances are anything but transparent. Fact is, it is reasonable to assume that The Steelers have spent a fair whack of theirs on Roy, and, based on this seasons performances, it is likely to be money well spent. He and his linemates were the difference this season and transformed a team of largely average players into title winners. That isn`t necessarily the only format for success but if Panthers et al want to compete next season they will have to invest in real quality. Personally, I would like that process to start with K Wall, Wild, and Doucet.

Do member think why Panthers lost a lot the grand slam 12/13 team because players asking for big pay increases? Corey got asked at the Chat Show why they struggled to retain players after that year. Him and and Rick both just said "women" and explained that Myers and his wife wanted to move to Wales. Fox's Mrs got a new job. Graham for family reasons had to leave. They said with Ling it was "multiple women". Theres a lot more to hockey players signing than just 'money' however much of an influence it is. As far as I'm aware Roy has no partner so therefore is making his own decisions for himself.

I suppose they have to make the commitment to the Motorpoint as they obviously make more from the bigger games at the arena. Must be a balancing act.

I'm just intrigued by these Steelers fans........they say they make more money playing out of Ice Sheffield. SO WHY DON'T THEY PLAY ALL THERE GAMES THERE ! I think the comment was that we make more money there than we do a 3,500 crowd game at the arena. Obviously, if we get more than 3,500, which is the case with the vast majority of our games, then the arena is more profitable. Because of the limited ice time at the arena some games would have to be played midweek, therefore we're better off playing Edinburgh at Ice Sheffield on a Sunday, rather than on a Wednesday night at the arena. It's also a reason why we don't have to double up challenge cup games with league games. Regards Doom

I know what the comment was Doom.
But do the maths. You can't possibly make more money out of 1300 at Ice Sheffield
Arena 3500 x say av £12 less £14k to hire arena = £28k profit
Ice Sheffield 1300 x £12 = £15,600 less ? To hire arena
Please explain how you make more money out of 1300 at Ice Sheffield.......your management are feeding you garbage !

It can't possibly cost over £30,000 MORE to play a game at the arena than it does at Ice Sheffield! If it does then they DEFINITELY can't afford Roy!

It's a classic case of fans believing what the management tells them dp.
Panthers are no different, but believe me not all we are told is true !

Excellent signing for Sheffield.
I envy them nothing.....except their "do what it takes to win attitude". Look at this year when O'connor became available, they snapped him up,that for me was their turning point,as without him I don't believe they would have won the league.

I suspect for the less attractive fixtures there are quite a few ticket deals to boost the crowds, so although the attendance maybe 3,500, that average ticket price of £12 is probably too high. At Ice Sheffield on a Sunday night they'll be able to charge the full amount without any ticket deals, so the average is probably nearer the £12. You can always tell when ticket deals are done at the arena, because the supporters are usually in seats that wouldn't be normally occupied when there's a smallish crowd. Regards Doom

I think if you take out 1,500 season ticket holders who will not contribute to the 3500 arena attendance because their cash is already in the bank AND take into account there are very few kids at Ice Sheffield games, so fewer concessions then it does make sense that a sub 3500 arena attendance is pretty close financially to an almost capacity Ice Sheffield.
We have had at least one game at IS this year where it was over capacity, people had to stand behind the goal and be allowed into the media gallery.

Bloody hell talk about clutching at straws.
You can't suddenly just take 1500 season tickets out of the equation, they are arena seats that have been paid for. And wow, there must be some wicked ticket deals knocking around in Sheffield to make those figures stack up.
You will be telling us next there are fewer oap's at Ice Sheffield too !!!!!!

Not clutching at straws at all, its fact. With a 3500 attendance the 1500 season ticket holders will be counted as being there and they don't contribute to the gate receipts for that game. Same at any club. I used to be involved, in a small way, with the junior set up at IS, It was about £10,000 less to hire IS than the arena, we had meetings about it because the midweek games take away some of the Juniors training time. Try your estimates again, a low attendance game at the arena can bring in less than an almost full IS.

The point is we don't know how the figures are made up, but it's too simplistic to assume average ticket prices are the same at both venues. At the end of the day it's not really worth worrying about.....It's those holding the purse strings who should be worrying about such things and as players seem enthusiastic to return to Sheffield, I can only assume things off the ice are quite stable and the players are well looked after.
