I have been coming to Panthers games on and off for around six years. This season I will of attended around 15 game and next season I hope to make most the season. I often book my tickets with a friend well in advance and often get very good seats, close to the ice as possible. This was not the case for the Cardiff game and we were near the back. I wasn't to worried as I have never had a bad seat at the NIC and the people around are more or less friendly.
Not on Tuesday!I really struggled to enjoy the game due to the people around us. Swearing, constantly shouting for fights whatever the situation and the classic 'shoot' when we are behind the goal! The incident that really griped me? When Kalus went down after the skate to the face, these 'fans' were shouting various abuse such as 'F'ng faggot' and comments of that nature towards Kalus.
To make it worse every few minutes some guy kept blowing 'smoke' or whatever it is from his vapor/ e-cig all over me. I've contacted the arena about that one and they are treated the same as cigarettes and shouldn't be used in the arena.
Rant over. I've probably been to nearly 60 games so not a bad run! On a lighter note, the guy with the e-cig was telling his friends he was a hardcore hockey fan and went on to explain the off side rule 'makes no sense' and is 'too complicated to explain or enforce!'

Your rant is justified.
I used to sit near the back of block 12. When I met the lady that is now my wife we started booking in advance sitting further down so we rarely sit high up.
On the rare occasions that we do sit higher up we have noticed a massive change in the type of "fans" up there. Drunk, foul mouthed and the usual "have a fight" at every break in play.

unfortunately we had a row full of people messing around in front of us on Tuesday night! We were also sat by people shouting for fights etc like you mentioned. Really winds me up, If they aren't interested that's fine but other people are trying to watch the match!

You will get this occasionally but to be honest with you, you should have moved. There was plenty of spare seats to pick from.

Drunk, foul mouthed and the usual "have a fight" at every break in play. Come on now, I'm never drunk at the Panthers I do sit at the back, like 5+G says I don't really think altitude = base rate fans, me excepted of course, there's probably a lot more season tickets around the glass though. Sadly you do sometimes hear homophobic insults at the hockey, although I can only remember it once this season.

Nothing more than casual groups who go as a way of being entertained before a night out/students from local university. Every club suffers with them sadly!

Actually since we're ranting...
People, especially those who clearly aren't first timers (jerseys on, etc), getting up during the game without waiting for the whistle. How hard is that?
I notice they've started putting that up as a message on the board this last couple of games, which is something.

Blocks 5 and 6 are terrible now for this. A minute before end of period and there is a long queue on their way down during play.

Espcially those who stand at the bottom of the stairs watching the game obstructing peoples view. One of these days they will end up wearing my beer.

Kids OR adults who chew about everything that happened,in the week .... who said what and who saw who and why the boss sacked em .....rather than about hockey. Taking your enjoyment away from the event AND then asking questions as to why someone has gone to the box.....ghrrrr
Watch the damn game.

To the person who takes their tea bag out the cup at their seat and then puts it under mine...please stop!
People who can't work out which end of the row they need to come in at even though they've sat there for years.
Leaving forward is my biggest peeve! JUST NO!
Shouting that The refs being paid off or slagging opposition fans off for chanting when things go against us...why?!

Also the "I watch nhl all the time" in one breath then the smallest tap of a stick on a player yelling "slashing!!!" or a small bit of grappling "holding!!!!"

I really haven't got a problem with people sitting forward in their seat - it's an exciting, edge of the seat game. I have more of a problem with the bookends that show no emotion, don't stand up or clap/cheer when we score and need their pulses checking on a regular basis just to make sure they're still with us.
As for people shouting at the ref or the opposition, what's wrong with that? Give me an arena full of edge of the seat noise makers over a bunch of mute people nodding in silent appreciation of the rules, any day of the week.

If it was during the edge of the seat moments (anyone remember them? ) then that'd be one thing, but some people sitting like that from the word go. Could have a bad case of the 'roids I suppose. As for people shouting at the ref or the opposition, what's wrong with that? Give me an arena full of edge of the seat noise makers over a bunch of mute people nodding in silent appreciation of the rules, any day of the week. I probably agree here, but there is an amusing amount of incredulity at perfectly reasonable decisions from people who've been there forever, which goes beyond just the usual give the ref a bit of stick.

Yes - don't get me wrong, i love all the noise, hate the 'quiet' games. However, it amazes me how a hard but fair check from one of our guys is fine and is applauded/cheered (as it should be). An almost identical check by an opposition player is met with howls of derision which only intensify when there is no penalty called. There's a group of fans that sit behind me that seem to scream 'offside' almost every time the oppostion carry the puck into our zone, it's ridiculous. Then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day

We may well be of different ages here.I like to sit with the seat supporting me due to a sporting back problem and if we all sat back in line we'd all see down the line of view when the puck goes 'down the other way'....no one the other side of them do it so they can't see......funnily when the puck goes my way and I stay sat forward (cos I've had enough) I get a tap on the shoulder...lol Sometimes going away with your own hockey fans is more appealing.

I totally get what your saying and agree. There do seem to be a large number of people with a negative attitude who go to Panthers games. I think these people use it as an opportunity to vent some of their anger and frustration. Having said that, there are also many pleasant, positive people at games too.

whilst we're ranting:
1. idiots that shout delay of the game when the puck goes over the benches...YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!
2. shouting shoot when the opposition pull the netminder and we either are within our own half so risk icing the puck if we miss or even better WHEN WE DONT EVEN HAVE THE PUCK!
3. people stood still on the bottom of the stairs blocking people leaving especially when we've lost and they are lingering in the hope that one of the players may notice them and propose to them (or something like that)

Add "Who Let The Dogs Out", when the Panthers (which I'm pretty sure are cats) score a goal, come on Gary. 3. people stood still on the bottom of the stairs blocking people leaving especially when we've lost and they are lingering in the hope that one of the players may notice them and propose to them (or something like that) This goes on during the period breaks too, people having a chat with their mates, no spacial self awareness whatsoever.

Get some 'heavier' stuff played I've been thinking this for years although they have been playing more Rock/Metal recently. Scorpions, ZZ Top, Motley Crue, AC/DC. You need heavy music to get people going and the players fired up. Rock/Metal is a perfect match for this sport!
