Just read Steeltalk what a complete and utter farce this club and situation is. This is a coach that has won trophies in this league, this is a coach that pushed our incredible team from last season close in both league and playoffs. The facts are Finnerty has improved Braehead this season after Steelers and Doug won trophies with the Giants before the Steelers. This says to me that the problems are within the Steelers organisation at present and not the coaches who they keep dropping like decent ones are so easy to find, especially when a season is 80% complete. Trophies?? Last time I checked we were 20 points behind the league leaders and we've just been embarrassed twice in the space of a week by our nearest and dearest. His hockey was dull and boring and was never going to live up to the hype made in the summer. So, excuse me if I applaud my club for doing the best thing for the future of the team on the ice. No farce here, just a club that isn't willing to accept what DC was dishing out.

Also, with the situations in Cardiff, Coventry and now Sheffield, it makes me glad when fans have called for Corey's head, that they weren't listened to. Neil Black has never been one for rash decisions and it's only given us lots of benefits. Stability is under rated in this league. CN has played entertaining hockey from day one and delivered trophies not very far in to his tenure. The coaches before CN were despatched fairly quickly if I remember rightly. I seem to remember the removal of Mike Ellis being portrayed on here at the time as being a bit rash.

Yup, "stand up for Mike Ellis", sure we remember that.
CN has always kept the trophies ticking over, we've had some fairly poor league campaigns and the CC/PO have saved him. I'm sure some of those years, had he returned nothing, Black would've gotten rid.
He wouldn't have gotten rid mid season though. That's the surprise to me. I suppose Goertzen might be able to inspire something in them, but maybe they just aren't that good a bunch of players?

He wouldn't have gotten rid mid season though. He was likely gone if he didn't turn things around in 2010/11 when we were awful for months. The difference was he was allowed to turn it around.

And it may be that the team he was coaching for was the difference. Sheffield are a team built solely on success, gained through fair means or foul. They need success to survive because their fans have what could be considered as being unreasonable expectations and are quick to up sticks if it doesn't come. This means coaches at Sheffield are invariably disposable assets, easily binned if things aren't going their way.

Christiansen may well have delivered the CUP this season but won't be credited with it if they do go all the way. Whether he has delivered or not per anyone's thoughts I'd like to know why a near season is worthy of giving up on anyone.Like who is better at this moment?...Yes this may spark Steeler's in the 2nd leg of the Cup but what on earth has brought this about? It has to be either something internal OR Sheffield's 'arrogance/less than one year plan' as has been said before, nothing else.
To add.....WE ARE ALL 20 odd points behind Belfast. DC has won trophies in this league.

Yes you are, so feel free to comment on Doug's demise, as opposed to TFS's posting style. Step forward Gerard Adams ? Decent shout. The Elite League does seem to hire from its own little circle.

Nothing wrong with doug. Everything wrong with the steelers org.
Ridiculous decision, aborrent timing, last roll of the dice to gee the players and try to stay in the cup.
Precurser to thommo in the summer

Interesting correlation forming between coaches coaching at Steelers and other Elite League clubs. Christiansen and Finnerty both ineffective at Steelers, but elsewhere they earn (or are earning) themselves a great reputation.
They say its not a knee-jerk, but would they have axed him if Steelers had of beat us 10-0 last night? No, is the short answer.
Doug for Cardiff now? Sure would put the cat amongst the pigeons

So no one from Sheffield fans or organisation had watched the Belfast Giants the previous two seasons and Doug's hockey there? This non entertaining hockey is all new to you all? Sorry I made an opinion I thought you had problems, now I know you from your post.

Step forward Gerard Adams ? Pretty sure you could forget about Adams for the rest of this season. He fell off the roof of his house not that long ago, now im no medical expert but i doubt he is going to be in any condition to coach hockey anytime soon

Not at all surprised by this. He was the wrong appointment in the first place.
Just disappointing they've done it before the second leg, because it makes me more weary of them.

So there are a few managerial vacancies.. Sheffield and Cardiff - lets see what happens Who would you like to see in charge at both clubs Or is this a knee-jerk reaction by both owners What with this and Coventry...is no job safe anymore

No farce here, just a club that isn't willing to accept what DC was dishing out." Sheffield knew what they were getting - its presumably just that they were behind in the title chase. This also applies to the Cup, but I cannot see that sacking him at this point of time helps that - unless it is thought that a more expansive approach in the second leg might rescue it.
It does not bode well for his position as the GB coach.

One trophy out of the last twelve on offer is not good for a team like Sheffield. It will be one out of thirteen when Belfast win the league, and may be one out of fourteen come next Tues night IF Panthers close out the tie.
I'm not quite sure where they will turn next, but it needs to be a good appointment for them.

No great surprise at the sacking, Tony Smith was making some pretty pointed comments around Christmas time, but he and the fans both seem to expect success and trophies as a right - sport just isn`t like that. Don`t know what has been going on behind the scenes but he hasn`t become a bad coach overnight, or over half a season. As for the comments on SteelTalk about boring hockey - when have Steelers ever had entertainment as a priority? Dave Matsos side was entertaining? This is my eighth season of following Panthers and the only thing that has ever mattered to The Steelers is winning - the best team of theirs that I have seen was undoubtedly the one coached by Ben Simon but it was hardly "run and gun" hockey under his direction - and his parting of the ways was accompanied by a fair bit of mud slinging. I went to see the early season cup game in Sheffield and was amused to hear Simms welcoming the new players as additions to "The Steelers Family" - what sort of dysfunctional family is this? I thought that family values were represented by qualities such as loyalty, respect, and support - not much of that in evidence.

Like many others, I don't understand the timing of this move, unless being humbled on your own ice by your biggest rivals really was the last straw? He hadn't exactly endeared himself to the Tin Shed faithful by leaving Steelers legend and top-scorer Jeff Legue out last Sunday v Coventry, to 'send a message'. Perhaps the players rebelled? I can't wait to see just what positive spin DS the BS will come out with on this one?? At least it gives us something to sing to the Steelers fans next Tuesday: "Where's your Dougie gone ..... where's your Dougie gone? .... Far Far Away!!" <to the tune of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep> (sorry - showing my age now!!) Probable replacement is either Rob Wilson or Blaiser, I would imagine?
