The way I remember it Spencer threw a jab at Henley from a distance with either players or a ref in between them. And then Henley did what he did.

If Spencer did engage first then I stand corrected, but it would surprise me if Spencer had been a chicken as he has fought Henley before. He offered nothing in return which makes me think it wasn't a fight they were both willing participants in. This is what Owen Bradley, Panthers reporter for Radio Nottingham said on twitter: "Okay, so the Henley-Spencer incident, having watched the tape back: Henley comes off bench for line change, engages with Spencer. It's Spencer who gets the first jab in with gloves on but Henley clearly fancies it, shakes off the gloves, and starts throwing." The problem that we are going to get with the match penalty is not who started the fight but the fact that Henley continued to punch Louie Spence when he was on the ground and that is what the excessive roughing match penalty was for. If Henley had stopped when they hit the ice he would most probably have got away with either a 5 or 5+game.

That was a proper Toe to Toe Turtle fight I have seen for a while. I thought Spencer was meant to be hard. How many guys called Tim do you know who are hard? Tim Witherspoon. I wouldn't take him on.

My first thought was Henley was coming on for a line chance but was then told he came on the ice without his stick. Henley deseeved to get kicked out for continuing to through punches when Spencer was down however Spencer shouldve stood and fought instead of buying the match penalty. The Hewitt/Jenson incident was identical aside Jenson doing absoloutly nothing to warrent 5.l

Regarding Jensen - absolutely as in previous post and also with Fata - he did nothing, but picked up 2 penalties. Incidentally Ryan gained soem brownie points with his goal and overall performance. Kullis seems to have that bit extra that we might be lacking on the puck (without the wizard Jordan) - I am still interested to see how he performs a couple of matches down the line.

At what stage did Henley start hitting Spencer from behind? Obviously he was hitting him when he was down but got the impression he came at him when he wasn't looking as well but could be wrong ?

Best performance of the season I've seen so far, loved it. No player did anything worthy of being kicked out IMO.
Steelers talked up the rivalry and hatred in the press, then collectively turtled, that's so steelers.
Doug even had hicks in his pocket and still couldn't win, that made it even sweeter.

So with Henley receiving a match penalty (one game ban) he is automatically sent to the naughty boys room so that Moray can decide what additional punishment he will receive. My question is will any ban be activated as from Panthers first game in Asiago?.

Only just got back from the Lions game (won 5-2 ) - what a day! OK, the controversial stuff first... Henley - you're an idiot. Not arguing with giving Spencer a slap - because let's face it, he was just being a nasty little scrote right from the start - but the combination of charging in like that (I don't think he deserved to be chucked just for that, but maybe the ref thought otherwise) then continuing to clobber Spencer after he turtled... anyone with half a brain would know he's courting a suspension for that... which we simply can't afford! We only just got him back, for pity's sake! THINK dammit, THINK! Play for the team... and play smarter. It's a real pity, because he was doing solid work before that. Special mention to Doug Christiansen... who needs to learn that he's a coach now, not a player - and standing there on the bench safe & sound behind all of his players, goading and taunting Henley - those are the actions of a classless silly person. Makela - no way did that deserve a Game penalty! The two of them got tangled & fell... just Dowd came off worst. Someone tell me this... seeing as the Steelers were getting nasty at every single opportunity (handbags at the ready even when our players just breathed too hard near them!)... how come not a single Steelers player went and 'had a word' with Makela for it? Makela was standing there, checking on Dowd... nobody in the white & orange seemed to think there was anything malicious. Only Hicks thought so. Hewitt vs Jensen... Hewitt gets 5 for fighting, Jensen gets 5 for... getting punched? Laughable. As for the game itself... talk about a tense one! Sheffield definitely started off the strongest-looking... they appeared to be quite capable going forward (was that deceptive?) just couldn't seem to break through our defence. Were we that solid at the back, or did Sheffield flatter to deceive and made us look good? At 2-1 up, I was still worried that we were going to collapse and lose it... especially missing player after player for this or that (thrown out or injured!)... but held on and turned it around. Have to say... when the Steelers collapse defensively, they don't muck about do they? That was a character win... dig deep, hold on at the back and apply the pressure up front... and just out-work them. Which we did. Credit to the lot of 'em. Conway definitely deserved his MoM... even with Franny getting a hat-trick. Made some absolutely superb saves. Were it not for the Match Penalty to Henley, I would have said that even splitting the points we still came out slightly ahead of Sheffield (and I'm not just talking goal difference here neither). But that could cost us big-style. At least Belfast lost, so we didn't actually lose any ground to our two biggest competitors. We didn't gain any either, but hey ho. 14 league games down, 38 more to play. It's going to be a long, long road...

Agree with pretty much everything that has been said. My main points to make are:
1) Conway - he's been solid, not as good as K-Wall but could be a lot worse. However tonight, he pulled some absolutely outstanding saves! The one with the splits was a personal highlight!!
2) Franny - Super Matty Francis. That is all.
3) I've read through all these comments and am gobsmacked at the lack of mention for Chris Murray. He's been chugging along all season doing his job. Nothing special but consistently good. Our only import D to play since day 1. Tonight he takes a puck to the face but plays on (I'm talking to you Gareth bale) and he gets so many assists too! Tonight he got 1 + 2 I beleive? His pass to set Franny off for his breakaway goal was inch perfect. Really really like him and think he'll become like Beckett where people start to notice him the further into the season we go.
Finally, Weaver looked in a lot of pain when he took the puck to the leg and I was fearing another leg break, but he was back out 5 minutes later! I'm guessing it was a dead leg or something!!
Really good 3rd people and of we keep that up, we'll be back up there with the Giants in no time!

Plays mean gets goals and assists and not afraid to stick up for his team mates! Guys a warrior!

Agree - Murray is a superb player! And hes a proper hockey player too, not like these modern day pansies that seem to be popping up all over the place. Takes a puck to the face, shakes it off and comes back on, and gets a goal and 2 assists! Easilly MoM for me tonight! A top player.

Crikey, what a game that was. Best I've seen for drama in a fair while.
Conway kept us in it as Dmen fell around him. Either due to injury or match pens. Henley had to go for his, amusing but dumb. My angle was bad on Makela's but reaction suggested it was harsh. Their powerplay was beyond woeful, we have a pretty good kill system but my god they've no idea what to do.
In the third we just skated away from them, I was real worried at the end of 2 as well because we had been terrible all period getting dominated 5 on 5 for the brief moments we had the full quota out there. Hicks made some strange calls and almost lost the game imo.
Fata and Spencer amused me no end, what a pair of bitches. Jensen wound them up a treat. Thought Doyle was solid til' his D abandoned him.
Special mentions to Super Franny, Murray & Lee. All solid contributions game long.

I personally think Murray is the best player in this team at times. Solid at the back, good distribution of the puck and boy has he got a nasty streak in him. No nonsense d man - puck in the face - stitched up, full mask on and get a 1+2 night. That's a proper player.
Conway deserved his MOM. Don't get me wrong, Kowalski is the better netminder and suits our style of play better but Conway ain't half bad!

I presume most of the people posting on here how highly they rate Chris Murray, didnt go to Scotland. He was shocking in Fife with multiple turnovers, which has been a big problem all season. I can't fault his commitment though, and did well to play on last night. He has also had to log masses of ice time due to our injuries. Points aren't everything for a D man, offensive or not. Let's hope he improves his outlet passes, and then maybe I will be able to agree with the rest of you.

I expect every player to have an off night or 2 during the season but if the commitment and effort is there I can forgive the occasional bad game. One swallow does not make a summer (I think that's the expression). Murray to me is a more naturally gifted version of Brock Wilson, just heart and soul into playing for the jersey. I very much doubt we produce that 3rd period yesterday without him out there.

I have seen a video on FB, (I can't get it to load up on here) not as bad as I thought. Punching Frank Spencer while he was face down is not too good though. Frank was offering our players but did not count on Mr Henley handing him a deserved beating.

Well I wasn't expecting that at the end of the second! What a great team effort that was with 2 import D-Men down. Henley slapping Spencer's crooked eye straight was brilliant and thankfully did not cost us. The Makela call was a joke as with many of Hicks calls. Both Sheffield players and Doug waving arms around calling for penalty shots and penalties was laughable. That needs to stay out of the sport.
Hewitt calling one of his own fan an idiot on Twitter for his view on the Henley incident. Stay classy poodle boy.

Totally agree on the arm waving and referee baiting from Christiansen, he was on at Hicks all game - go coach a football team if that's how you want to carry on you big tart. Disgrace Hicks needs no encouragement to make shocking calls. Throwing Makela out? Fighting pen for Jensen? Two of his 'better' efforts.
