Christiansen has always been the type of coach that will stretch to any means to win a hockey game for his team during the 60mins (not saying thats good or bad). I do agree that he seemed extra animated during Sundays game. Maybe he's starting to feel the pressure from the natives. After all, his exceptionally poor and predictable special teams falls on his shoulders.

Bit that made me laugh was Doug doing the hand mouth-gesture to Henley... He'd just seen Henley paste his 'tough guy'?!
Say what you like about Neilson, and people do, but he doesnt get into all that childish gesturing and shouting. Doug wasnt much of a tough force on the ice, just shows he has to have 10 guys in front of him to play the big man card

Listened to the first 5-10 minutes of the Mansfield 103.2 Ice Hockey Show (Face Off Thursday) last night.
The comments made by Mike O'Connor were interesting to put it politely. Tony Delahuntey asked him for his thoughts on the weekends action. He opened up by saying that Mike Hicks should never be allowed to referee another Panthers game. He stated a 'conflict of interests' due to Hicks' involvement with the company that supplies the Panthers shirts. He mentioned the word 'biased' and that Hicks would be likely to favour Panthers when he had a 50/50 call to make.
Unless i was watching another game/ref on Sunday - I saw Hicks award Sheffield 11 powerplays; including two lengthy 5 on 3 PP's and 2 five minute PP's. He also threw two Panthers players out. All that O'Connor seemed to remember though were the 3rd period calls and he even admitted that Sheffield lost their discipline.
I genuinely thought this guy was an orange and teal voice of reason but have lost an awful amount of respect for him after his whinge based comments last night.

I really do think Sheffield should seriously consider changing their name to Squealers from Steelers, as they seem to be 100% squeal and 0% steel. Make your own minds up if think this is a tongue in cheek kind of post.

Well duh. Come on Ted, that's all part of the bias! Hicksy clearly knew that Steelers' PP was godawful, so he kept putting them on it, playing into our hands. They kept having to take stupid penalties to even things up, because even handed they're clearly brilliant. He's a sneaky one that Mike Hicks. Really though I think O'Connor should be done for bringing the game into disrepute here, over to the Elite League chairman I think... oh hang on...

I think fans having a pop at officials is part and parcel of any sport, but for senior representatives and coaches to continually criticise officials in the public media the way they do is undermining and unhealthy for Ice Hockey in this country. The league doesn't invest heavily in refereeing programs because it simply can't afford too. We have a standard of refereeing which matches the standard of our league. Clubs and their representatives need to deal with it!

Some very sour grapes being spouted by O'Connor there, he should be charged for bringing the game into disrepute.
That's a serious accusation of conflict of interest and I sincerley hope that Tony Smith, Chairman of the Elite League will be taking action.

I can understand players and officials (even fans) giving an emotive interview/statement just after the game is finished. Emotions are still running high, adrenaline is still flowing and in the heat of the moment there will be rash comments made. Often though when the dust has settled and individuals have taken stock (watched the game tape maybe) and calmed down they see things clearer and make more informed comments.
For someone like O'Connor to still be spouting off 4 days afterwards is ridiculous. It's a joke to place the blame at Hicks' door. It would be bad enough if he was saying he'd just had a bad game but he's gone beyond that. I'm not expecting any action to be taken though. None at all.
Get your own house in order - sort out the 'NHL style D system' and your woeful PP. Get your coach to concentrate on coaching his team on match night instead of trying to ref the game.

I assume O'Connor will want teams to stop using Rhino shirts, just in case that causes a conflict of interest as well....

Be nice if Hicks referee's Sheffield's games this weekend and keeps penalising them and letting the opposition get away with what they like...
