Dave, I'm sorry but likening hockey rivalries to other sports is not chalk and cheese at all. It's sport whether it's football, rugby, hockey or *god forbid* cricket!! Disagree... saying that such-and-such is OK in hockey because it's prevalent in other sports... that's just wrong. <shrugs> Couldn't give a toss. The Nottingham/Sheffield rivalry is overhyped (by both teams) and stale... and the hatred (deliberately fostered by Sheffield) only makes it worse. I want rivals I can have some respect for. Granted, Bob Phillips in the past, and Paul Ragan now, may have knocked that a little for Cardiff... but overall, they are a rival I can respect. That certainly doesn't apply to Sheffield. Yeah - it's always "time to move on", isn't it? Forget what's gone before (unless it's convenient for '1956 ' chants or something : - that's all we ever get from Sheffield. Which only makes it easier for them to keep on doing the same crap over and over and over again. Look - this isn't aimed at you personally... but I'm just sick and tired of the whole damned lot. Sick of the contempt, sick of the smug and arrogant attitudes, sick of the constant niggles at us... and sick of the way that the Sheffield bunch (in general) defend all of that yet immediately turn into the biggest bunch of petulant whingers the minute anyone says anything about them that they don't like. The term 'double standards' could have been invented for that club and fanbase (in general, like I say). None of us is perfect, no club or fanbase... but there are none that have plumbed the depths that the Steelers have. All I want is to watch my team, watch my hockey, discuss my sport with people online... is that so much to ask? Without all of the crap that we get from up the road. I couldn't give a toss whether all of this crap is tame compared to football, or any other sport for that matter. That's irrelevant. So yeah - you can call me 'bitter' if you like... although that's the wrong term IMHO. I'm just sick and tired of it. Fed up, weary of it... to the stage where sometimes I just wish that your club and the unpleasant portions of your fanbase would just FOAD. I love our sport too much to really want that, because anything that weakens our sport is bad IMHO, and that would weaken it. But sometimes I wonder... End of.

How long do you want to drag it out for though Dave. No matter how many times you rant on here about what has gone on before it won't change a thing. Those things happened and neither me or you can change that. Saying rivalries in other sports are irrelevent is complete rubbish. You get the same type of rivalry in any sport. Do you really think fans of your nearest rivals are going to spend all their time sending good wishes your way?? Of course we're going to say things about you, we're going to laugh at your failures and yes the 1956 thing is funny but then that's no different to me laughing at the Blades for not winning a major trophy for 90 years or choking in 2 playoff finals. I would expect you to do exactly the same to us given the opportunity. Hell, I've been called scum and a cretin by the chairman of my own football club on live TV. Thanks Dave Allen, much appreciated. Sometimes we've probably gone too far but these things happen, you can't keep going over the same ground again and again and again and again!! If your use of FOAD is what I think it is then I'm frankly shocked. Especially after you knowing what we've just been through as a family.

Got to give it to Sheffield, they may be unconvincing at times but get the job done. Could well be their season although I'll only give them the credit for it if it is the same Sheffield Steelers next season and not the latest new Ice Hockey team to be rolled out annually from Sheffield after the demise of the previous one. Looking at the fixtures the Steelers have quite a tough end to the season so if Belfast and ourselves can take a few points off them then they may well let Belfast in. I have to say though, if you offered their fans a third or fourth place finish at the start of the year I'm guessing a good proportion would have said yes.

And I mean that as a compliment not a criticism

I'd also like to think we won't have to be reborn again. Time will tell on that one. The run in is going to be tough, no doubt about it. Personally I think we'll fall just short but will have enough to finish 2nd. This season, for me anyway, is not about winning trophies, it's about being sustainable and then moving forward next season. I would have laughed at anybody that would have said come the end of January we'll still have a shot at the league. 3rd/4th is exactly what I was expecting/hoping for this year. As I see it, Belfast will win the league, we'll be 2nd with you 3rd. You will take Challenge Cup and Playoffs. We're not a cup team so won't have a chance in the playoffs.

To be honest most of the fans would still be happy with second place (behind Belfast) this season. Winning the title would be an incredible bonus as this wasn't, and to a lot of fans, still isn't, expected.

Maybe it is a fix. Unusual that so many teams take the point from Sheffield then let them have the bonus one in O/T or pens. Unusual that we are the only team to have really taken any points from Sheffield at all.
Shaggy - I bet you wouldn't care as much about Sheffield and be so 'fed up' with it all if we had a few league titles to our name from the past few seasons?
FWIW I think you can compare one sport with another. The football v hockey debate is regularly used and it's fair in many ways. Football had to start somewhere. It's all well and good saying you can't compare because football is a multi-billion pound international industry but it wasn't always that way. It had to start somewhere and comparing it with hockey is just two sports that have the same aims but that are at two different places on the same scale.
If you take the situation in the US. Before the World Cup over there you would have been mad to suggest that 'soccer' would ever rival hockey in terms of popularity and commercial value. There wasn't even a proper soccer league set up before the World Cup - they HAD to set one up as part of their bid. Now, almost 18 years on from Diana Ross's penalty miss and there has been huge progress. Soccer has massively caught up on hockey - I would suspect it could even overtake in another 10 years or so.

I wasnt aware of this befor, but the steelers already have both DeCaro and Stephenson signed up for next season.
I know it doesnt mean diddly squat till they actually turn up in September, but i must admit im kind of happy they have DeCaro again as he hasnt impressed me one bit this season.
