panthers were reformed from scratch I know I'm being pedantic here, but not entirely from scratch. The then Sheffield team (Sabres) was moved to Nottingham. I'm possibly being pedantic too but I believe it was the Sheffield Lancers who moved to Nottingham to become the Panthers. Sabres Played in Sheffield until 90/91 and then merged as such with the remains of Solihull at the time to become the Steelers. Steelers started "from scratch" playing initially in front of a few hundred people and managed to grow quickly through really top notch marketing....5500 by Christmas and Full Houses by January (All tickets paid for too!). Player wise we hardly has a team full of World beaters, unless you class Bernard Serafinski, Andy Havenhand and Paul Thompson as such?

Scratch as in new club but one with very low quality of players is the point i was making Stef and yes i know they were formed out of the sabres but it wasnt important in what i was trying to say... I know Tex. As I say, I was being a pedant, and I couldn't even get that right, as Glynn has pointed out.

Shaggy, normally your posts are very balanced, and worth a read, but from what I've read on this thread, you have come across as very very bitter. Come on, I know you're better than that. Anybody remember Cheers ? Sam-"Don't be bitter." Woody- "I'm not bitter, Sam. I'm just consumed by a nawing hate that's eating away at my gut until I can taste the bile in my mouth."

Not a big sports fan outside hockey then?
I support Derby County, which means getting lots, and lots of abuse from Forest fans, and giving that abuse back.
I also support England at Rugby, which means getting a lot of hatred from the other home nations. The same is probably true in Football but we don't play them as much (although you look at the kind of feelings people have about Germany).
It's sports - we have our rivals, we have banter, sometimes it gets nasty and personal which isn't good, but it's all part and parcel of being sports fans.

If by being "padded out by a sponsor" you mean that G casino offer a free drink with every ticket bought, then you are indeed correct!!! I have increased the number I buy especially when I have a night in town planned, I can buy 10 tickets and get 10 free drinks for me and my friends... awesome Also we have increased the number of sellers. I havent missed a Sheffield/Panthers game at the Nic in about 4 years and apart from occasionally walking in, I have never been asked to buy a ticket at the NIC. If someone was there asking I would probably buy a fiver worth. This is what Sheffield have found, very few people will walk to a find a seller but if a seller is there asking most people will buy. This is especially true when going through the stands in the period break. I was part of the team that went down to coventry to try and increase their 50/50 and we go it to £1250 However in the games played there since I have not been asked to buy a ticket!! I think the old saying is very true, if you dont ask you dont get so maybe take a leaf out of Sheffields book and get sellers out and about asking rather than standing where they feel comfortable!!!

Great point about asking people to buy raffle tickets rather than waiting to be approached
No problem with the existing sellers staying where they are either
Just get a few more sellers going around the stands in period breaks and the poster is right - sales would fly up
I am guessing our ticket sellers are volunteers ? Maybe they should be rewarded from the Panthers 50% take
I am guessing they already get free season tickets or something - I would like to hope they do ?

They get free tickets to the games. In Gary's last email he was asking for more volunteers to sell more tickets. Obviously he doesn't like losing to Simmsy

it'd be a bit bizarre if playersrelatives never won having bought tickets, also why would they draw attention to it if it was underhand?

Wonder if Woolhouse will be happy to back-up nettie next year or will want to break out ala Craze.

Amazing tally of OT wins by Sheffield. NINE wins to NO losses in OT periods either OT or PS.

steelers dont look like a championship team come on the giants I beg to differ, although I can't quite believe it this season, our results *so far* do suggest we look like a championship team. 9 & 0 in OT and only 4 league losses all season *3 of those to you* would suggest we are too. My personal opinion is that we'll fall just short but get 2nd place behind Belfast. For a first year coach in a transitional year for the whole club that would be pretty good going imo.

Rivalry, that's why you think like you do Dave. Anything that has happened between Steelers and Nottingham is tame compared to the stuff between Wednesday and the Blades. I've taken so much stick over the years for following Wednesday from Blades fans that anything that is said or happens at Hockey is water off a ducks back. Seriously the stuff you constantly go on about is nothing compared to football. It's local sporting rivalry, nothing more. Quite frankly, I couldn't give a toss about football. Comparisons between the sports are IMHO pointless - chalk and cheese. And no... "rivalry" isn't why I think the way I do. As I've said time and again, I don't regard the Steelers as "rivals"... to my mind, ever since the very first season I watched (1999-2000) that title has gone to the Cardiff Devils. I regard the Steelers the way I do solely as a result of their own actions. Like it or not, that's how it is. Shaggy, normally your posts are very balanced, and worth a read, but from what I've read on this thread, you have come across as very very bitter. Come on, I know you're better than that. Bitter? Now why should I be bitter? Having watched the Panthers for 13 seasons now, and right throughout that time, have seen my team, my fellow fans and my own self personally be on the receiving end of an incessant campaign of abuse and contempt from a club that displays all of the moral fibre of an expenses-cheating MP, and a fanbase that (in general) has been nothing short of arrogant, blinkered and abusive. A deliberate campaign designed to denigrate us at every turn. Forgive me if I am simply sick to death of it. Were it not that I care for the sport as a whole, and recognise that every single club is needed, I would wish the Steelers dead and buried with a stake through their collective heart (if such an organ could even be located). It's not even hatred... I'm just sick and tired of pretty much everything to do with that club - a few individuals excepted. No doubt I'll be on the receiving end of more abuse for saying this, but what else is new? And if any of you up there can't see that this is completely and utterly a result of your club's and your fanbase's own actions, then I'm afraid that there's no hope for you. Dave, I'm sorry but likening hockey rivalries to other sports is not chalk and cheese at all. It's sport whether it's football, rugby, hockey or *god forbid* cricket!! You may see your rivals as Cardiff but the majority of your fanbase does not. In any sport there is a massive rivalry between two clubs that are geographically the closest. We didn't play our first game in front of 8,000 people and we didn't have a team full of stars either. We worked our way up the leagues at the same time as starting to get bums on seats. Once we got the crowds in we could then go out and spend that income on better players. Back then there was no other team with the spending power of Sheffield, simply down to the numbers we got to our games. George Dodds didn't come in and spend millions of pounds of his own money, he spent what the club generated by putting a damn good product on the ice and off it. Him, Shudra, Ronnie Wood and others deserve all the praise they get for what they did when we first started. It was nothing short of remarkable. I think you are being a little dis-respectful to the people involved back then with your comments. You know me well enough now Dave to know that I'm not proud of some of the stuff that my club has done and said in the past. Some of it makes me cringe when I think about it. But I also know I wouldn't let it eat away at me like it clearly does you. What's been said and done cannot be changed however many times you mention it. Neither team is whiter than white over the last 20 years, we've been worse than you but you've had your moments too. Sometimes you just need to put things to one side and move on. I'm certainly not saying forget or forgive it but where does continually bringing the same stuff up time and time again on here get you? If I didn't know you I could quite easily take some of your comments the wrong way. And to be honest, I tend to agree with HelenB, there is a lot of bitterness in your postings, even if you don't see it. I try not to post on here as a *typical* Steelers fan but I can see why some of our fans respond the way they do when they read some of the stuff that you've put. As I've said a couple of pages ago, we're never going to agree. I'm going to defend my club and you are going to defend yours. Time to move on I think.

steelers dont look like a championship team come on the giants I think it shows a good example of a Championship team. The steelers find a way to win even if they look dead and buried.... That's what define champions, they don't give up.
