Well that was bad. im not blaming kowalski at all. of the 4 devils goals 2 were odd man break aways with a smart pass across goal and 2 were unmarked men at the backdoor. All a result of poor defensive work imo. For me i blame the forwards. we looked very flat and didn't take enough preasure off the defensive. so many turn overs in the devils zone allowing break aways. Fox and myers in particular i thought were very poor, lots of stick handling errors and missed passes from the pair on them. However of all the aspects of the game im concered about it was the powerplay that really had me worried. we just aren't treatening at all! we look more scoring 5 on 5. you know its bad when u cant score 6 on 3. very poor. panthers had lots of shots tonight, but they were straight at lyle! didn't see any passes ( or attemts) across goal, and we were only in his face a few times. we're not out of the league yet. But we MUST win tomorrow!
couple of possitives, thought clarke played very well. really worked hard and looked like he really wanted the puck. Macca as well looked very good to me, strong forechecking and didn't look rusty at all!

What did the Devils fans do? They create an atmosphere? Tut tut tut To be honest i dont know exactly but there did seem to be a lot of banter between some Devils fans and a fair few in block 4...i couldnt hear any of it as i sit the opposite side of the arena But on the whole they outsung us...it is a long time since i've heard the Devils fans that noisy at the NIC (apart from play offs and the challenge cup final a few years ago)

The devils played a superb road game tonight. Yes, we had a lot more of the game and the greater share of the chances but the difference was they took theirs. Mom Jeff Pierce was immense up front and the number 44 in defence was outstanding.
We huffed and puffed but there wasn't the fluency that we know we are capable of going forwards and the usual sloppy defending cost us a couple of goals.
Macca worked hard for 2 periods and was one of our better players but was fairly anonymous in the 3rd. We probably could have done with Sami however, to try and break down Cardiff's excellent back line with his defence splitting passing. I still have no idea what Heerema is doing in this team. He contributes virtually nothing and I think those that say 'he has excellent movement', 'you just don't notice him because he is so good he just looks like he isn't working hard', 'he is on a different wavelength and isn't used to playing with lesser players' etc etc, are just trying to make out that they can see something that other 'less educated' fans can't. Ive been watching panthers for more than 20 years and for me all of those such comments just don't wash...he is poor.
That's our title over for this year. I'm not annoyed or angry about this because I didn't really expect us to stick the distance anyway. The fact is we have lost to 5th and 6th place over the last week and we will continue to consistently lose the odd game here and there for the remainder of the season. To top the pile at the end of the year we realistically need to win every game and hope Sheffield slip up 4/5 times which at the minute just isn't happening.
Cheers

Devils have good and loud travelling support, of course they are going to rub it in, they have just pulled off a road win with a depleted team.

Post of this thread has to go to the devils fan that said Frank had Adams blood on him after the Lepine fight...hahaha. Course he did!

Gutted...
We were poor Cardiff out hustled us tonight... What makes it worse though is ( I hate to do this a normally I can't stand it when others do) but Carson was terrible tonight he got all the big calls so wrong.

Carson didn't call alot wrong, so anyone who blames him is way out - we only have ourselves to blame there.. I thought Lepine was dire, picked up a bit later on and credit to him for the fight, but his passing was p.poor and their forwards were far better skaters throughout.
It's not too late re the league, but we need to start winning immediately, worrying though as if we can't win at home, how can we expect to win away etc etc.
On the +ve side, McAslan for me was our best player (although Benedict deserved the MOM for his work rate) so given a bit more time with the team he could yet win us the league.
Hum the tune!

On Heerema, I saw a little flash of brilliance from him tonight with a breakaway towards the Cardiff goal which made me wonder why he doesn't play like that all the time.

Hum the tune! I'm sorry but what? He was far to in consitent... He didn't call Frank for instigating the fight with Steve Lee, initially he didn't call leppine high stick, only after the fight, how did he not call the swing of franks stick? He missed a blatant boasing penalty on a panther before devils fourth goal, he called lacho for tripping them ignored the devils do exactly the same... He was a joke tonight But your right panthers only have themselves to blame for losing. Carson didn't help

Attacking - Crap Defending - Crap Powerplay - Worse than Crap Coaching - Crap
Easily the worst of the season.
Yet again no plan B infact im thinking there wasnt even a plan A tonight.
at least we kept the title run going till January this year.

Cheers Why do you guy's keep saying it's Sheffield that need to lose? Belfast are the team at the top not us, it's them you are chasing. Too much concentration on what Sheffield are doing and not enough on your own game. Far too early to be chucking the towel in. But, you simply cannot have too many more slip ups. Lose tomorrow in Cardiff and you may well be too far behind the 8 ball.

I think it's due to Sheffields ridiculous number of games in hand...we have no faith in the other teams beating Steelers and think you'll be ahead of us very shortly

Not good enough. Outplayed and outdone. We looked out of sorts and out of ideas and several players didn't bring their 'A' game tonight or simply were poor. IMO another not good game for Heerema. I suppose most of the talking points will be about the officiating and tbh carson was cack. His decisions at time defied logic. Lee's check to the head the players body was only 2 foot from the ice as they had fell over the linesman so a hit to the head area was pretty inevitable, and if another player drops the gloves to fight the hitter, that is instigating so 2+10. Lepines 'accidental high sticks', carson saw it and didn't call it and Lepine had to fight because frank had dropped the gloves again, surely another instigator penalty? Their 3rd scored by pearce, he shouldn't have been on the ice as he had hauled down by holding a panthers player - no call. In fact the only face saving act of the officials tonight was Sewell telling carson about franks cross check. tonight was a need to win game and we didn't do it, and we will be lucky to get something tomorrow.

And yes, Heerema is still the weakest link.

I agree re the instigator call on Frank, or lack of it, I just thought other than that it was pretty even and we cant blame the ref if our PP is crap can we!

Disagree about Heerema being the weak link, there wasnt a strong link on the ice for us.

Because after the games in had, you will more than likely be top.. you win everything, I cant see you slipping.. Those games in hand have to be won though. In any case if either of us finish second behind Belfast, it's no better than third. There's only one trophy and that goes to the team in 1st.

Well that was poor. Attack was unimaginative and slow. Powerplay was woeful, my dad (who knows nothing about hockey) could predict it! Overall it was the team that lost that game due to an awful performance. Happy belated Christmas slump!
The referee, well quite frankly was awful throughout but that's expected! Missed holding/boarding call prior to their fourth put another nail in our coffin tonight.
Even the arena showed signs of incompetency tonight. Inept staff made me miss our first goal. Narked tonight.

You win some you lose some. Now you all have to pick yourselves back up and get behind your team 100% win lose or draw!!!!
Make some noise get behind your team show them you are there, its important for the players to think their fans believe they can take on anyone and WIN! Dont go to Cardiff thinking youll lose because believe me your team will soon lose all confidence in themselves and youll be lucky to make top 3 in the league!
Fight for 1st show everyone how much you want it!!!!!
