Its funny cause it was Carson and I really don't care if he was hurt. Personally I think Clarke was going over to complain, and slipped and the Steelers player skated past, I do not think his intention was to hit Carson. Well, you're an idiot aren't you?

Absolutely deserved a lengthy ban but from the better quality clip, it's clear he's not going after Carson otherwise he would have hit him with his stick. I think the 6 games was light but doesn't matter now anyway if they've released him.

Could've used far worse. Wishing harm on a human being isn't as bad as calling someone an idiot? Aye, ok then.

Could've used far worse. Wishing harm on a human being isn't as bad as calling someone an idiot? Aye, ok then. Irrelevant. Plenty of people make comments on here that may be considered distasteful by others... that's very much a grey area. What is not a grey area is outright insulting fellow Cage members. If you don't believe me, try reading the rules:- thecageforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Hockey&action=display&thread=344If you really had a problem with his comments, there's always the choice to quietly PM one of the Moderating team, or even to use the 'Report Post' button. To just take it upon yourself to start calling someone an "idiot"... that crosses the line. Now if you have any more complaints or comments on the subject, kindly communicate via PM and stop making a mess in public.

I'd be curious to see what the ban would have been if Clarke HAD made contact with Carson.

From that clip I'd say 6 games is a light sentence. Even though it was Carson. It doesn't look like he was trying to make contact though. Not that I'm defending what he was trying to do, I just don't think he was trying to make contact.

Youve got to wonder how much they spoke to Carson about the incident before giving him the ban? Its clear he didnt "slip" until after he'd smashed his stick against the plexi.

A few weeks ago somebody said that the Elite League had already decided on who was going to win the title this season, and since then we have seen the Doucet incident where many fans thought his check on Zamic was poor, and now this. Makes you wonder........

Not according to their website. www.belfastgiants.com/archives/clarke-assessed-6-match-suspension/Where's the punishment from his club, or are they condoning his actions?

There are significant differences here to other incidents that have been mentioned in other places (on Twitter etc). This is not a fight between players it's an attack on a referee. Any attempt to inflict physical injury on a referee deserves a huge ban - IMO swinging your stick at the ref should be bordering on a lifetime ban.
The footage of the incident is not great and you can't really judge intent or how much contact was made. In these circumstances you have to rely on individual accounts of the event - and these are notoriously unreliable.
Clarke may not have intended to make contact with Carson. I'm happy to believe that had he intended to do so Carson would be in a much worse state than he is.
If the intent was not to make contact then it must surely have been to intimidate Carson using the threat of physical violence. If that's the case then the ban is not long enough IMO.
The league has a problem with referees. We don't have enough and they're not of sufficient quality. They have a tough job. They get no training and no support. How are we ever going to improve the quality of officiating if there is no support for them?

I personaly wouldn't expect them (belfast) to punish him themselves it was a moment of madness and the league has dealt with it. However, what i would expect is a press release from Belfast stating that they do not in any way condone the actions of Clarke. saying that tho, with the annomosity they have towards Carson at the minute it aint going to happen. Will be interesting to see when Carson is next in charge of a Giants game and the opponents.

As one who is far from Carson's biggest fan I can honestly say that Clarke's action are bang out of order.
Six games?
Very, very lucky boy

Does this mean there is a rule book?? or just guidelines??:: minimum tariff as per Elite League suspension guidelines. “Any player who deliberately applies physical force to an official in any manner, which physical force is applied without intent to injure, or who spits on an official, shall be automatically suspended for not less than six (6) games.” Show us the guidelines!!! PS we now know what the minimum offence looks like. Poor old Carson. PPS 6 games for spitting on an official??? wtf?

Cairns- rest of the season. Sharp- 20 games. Clarke- 6 games... Great way to stick to the precedent. You forgot Campbell 3 games biting a linesman You forgot the magic word "allegedly", as after coming out with the bite comment they supposedly investigated it and never said what conclusion they'd come to. Once again, classic EIHL regarding discipline, no transparency.

Its a very short statement from the EIHL regarding Clarkes ridiculously short ban,i wonder why ?
Remember the Lepine/Globke hit last season, where they were explaining it in full glory, telling us how they had used the super duper enhanced slow motion video etc etc to justify their decision. Where is the explanation this time, they may as well just have said "oh and by the way we have banned Aaron Clarke for 6 games for being a little bit naughty last week".
In this league,it really does seem to come down to who you are and/or which club you play for and that is wrong, totally wrong, there is no other explanation for it.
Where is the big explanation this time other than quoting the relevant rule ?
They may as well have said "oh and by the way Aaron Clarke got a 6 game ban for being a little bit naughty last week".
