Has it been said anywhere what is actually wrong with Matty? Is a break / tear or sprain. Just heard a 'rumour' its a fractured hand.

Who are the top Brit forwards in the EPL currently? I know he's no spring chicken, but Longstaff injury-free would play a similar sort of game to Myers. Maybe a little slower, but lets be fair he has to have SOMETHING going his way if he's still on the go. Doubt Guildford would let him go though as he's got the "C" for them. If you want "top of the league" best forwards, go for a loot in MKL, if you want hard-working underdog types, swallow your pride and head up to Payette's Steeldogs. If you want bench fodder, there's some scottish lad in Telford who's played for more teams than Jeff Hutchins.

Why did we risk Mathew when there was a chance of aggravating his injury - which it now seems to have done. Obviously Im not aware the nature of his injury but the decision to play him seems to have backfired.

Your best post on here Abi. Period. Especially the Hutchins line. Is that because i'm not causing an argument for once? I would agree that it seems daft Neilson has risked worsening an existing injury on someone so key. That being said, injured sportsmen are stubborn as they get - speaking from my own memories of Loughborough - so we've no guarantee it wasn't Myers being stubborn and playing through it for the sake of the team...which has now backfired. Whatever the cause/reason/explaination (because lets be fair, they're never gonna be the same one thing), lets hope Myers makes a speedy recovery.

We all know sportsmen can be stubborn as hell but surely if your coach or medics says no i'm not risking you worsening your injury then that should have been the end of it? crazy risk to take!

Couldn't this have all been said about Danny last season when he carried on through injury, postponing his op to close season .... then he realises actually how bad his injury was. End scenario 'could' have been much worse for Danny that it has turned out.
You can only make your best decision at the time, and sometimes that will be wrong. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

You try standing in the way of a sportsman who, injured or not, wants to hit the ice for the team he busts a gut for.

Ahem. I did have a bet with my Dad after two games of the season that Belfast would finish above Panthers so if I have the power to jinx Myers like that then we've got the league title in the bag. Or is that just re-jinxing it? ARGH, stop talking!

You can only make your best decision at the time, and sometimes that will be wrong. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing. A bit of foresight now and then wouldn't go a miss though. Belfast managed to show some by starting the season with a spare import as cover. If we'd had cover for Heerema we maybe could have rested Myers. Oh well, we are where we are I guess. Third in the league. There could be a silver lining though. Maybe with some time away from the ice Myers might get chance to have a hair cut.

How could they rest Myers by having an extra import Doughnut ?? I'm guessing that the decision to risk Myers was influenced by the fact that icing Heerema was a risk and/or that Heerema wasn't fully match fit. If they'd had an import playing for us since Heerema became injured then they may not have needed to risk playing Myers against Belfast. I could be wrong. They might have risked Myers anyway.

According to O/S, Myers now needs an op and could be out for TWICE as long as originally thought.
Bugger.

And now the official site says it could be 12 weeks with an operation needed. The annual Christmas disaster is starting early this year!

IMHO, you could never get close to replacing Matty (or Clarkie; Steve Lee or Danny for that matter) with an EPL player on a short-term 2-way contract basis, so why bother?
Better to restructure the team while he's out using what we've got, and above all, play with settled lines, rather than the 'Musical Chairs' approach we saw last Saturday, when the return (however welcome!) of Heerema, saw every line disrupted as he was spelled in with every combination possible.
I'm not saying that was the reason we lost on Saturday, but it was noticeable that the fluidity and understanding that the set lines had developed was patently not there!
