I'm sorry, but after reading that transcript... PR doesn't look one little bit better than before. It's noticeable he stuck to a few prepared soundbites and kept shiffting the discussion back onto those areas. He keeps saying that Cardiff were "4th or 5th" last season in terms of spend... how does he know? If he truly knows the spend of other teams, then which is it - 4th or 5th? Unless - as I strongly suspect - he's bulling everyone.
Sorry... this guy does not look like "a very capable businessman" in any way, shape or form. He doesn't know this, he wasn't aware of that, he got this wrong, he accepts responsibility for that (easy to say...). Lots of generalities and evasions... nothing of substance.
Not so much the Messiah... more like the Teflon Spiv. Wouldn't trust the guy as far as I could throw the Big Blue Tent. Sheffield Steelers fans... be afraid, be very afraid (if you're not already). This could be the end of your club.

Now... all anyone has to do is look at both articles and compare and contrast what the two men say and how they say it. Such a comparison would be coloured, I grant you, by our knowledge of what has gone before... but even so - which of the two seems more plausible? More professional? More trustworthy? Not the Teflon Spiv, that's for sure...

An interesting bit of conflicting information coming out (surprise, surprise) is that Globke said he had a two year contract with Steelers, and Simon saying that he signed Globke before he left. That doesnt really sound like a two year contract to me. Maybe an option of a second year, but not a two year deal.

"The American former NHL player also criticised Steelers official Dave Simms, alleging there was a “conflict of interest of our media officer going on message boards and discussing things. Not really professional to say the least.” Simmsy? surely not....

To keep it brief, where is the season ticket money?

Not the Teflon Spiv, that's for sure... Completely agree. This league needs more of the Ben Simon character and far less of the Ragan type!! Ragan could teach politicians a thing or two, he never answered one question outright. He's nothing more than a spin doctor. Yes, he admitted making mistakes, but, he completely ignored everybody when they were telling him running both clubs from the same company exactly the same way was a mistake. He may have been successful elsewhere in his business dealings but he sadly knows nothing about running a sports club, completely different animals. The forum in Sheffield should be interesting, just a shame I can't make it. Although maybe that's a good thing......

It was mentioned earlier (post #132) that, from his own words, Finnerty seems pretty dim. Dim character with a rep on the ice, Mickey Mouse hockey league rife with financial problems, life imitating art.....

Incredibly bad press for the Steelers. It's all pretty negative at the minute.
Ragan has completely tarnished others perception of him.

If this is true (and who the hell knows what is true up in Shuff?) then no doubt we will have a sudden outpouring of euphoria amongst the Steelers fans, which may even last until partway through the season. This will be accompanied by a resurgence of the usual arrogance, contempt and mockery coming out of there - mainly directed at us, of course. A honeymoon period, which may or may not last a full season, followed by the return of the moans and self-destructive behaviour, subsequently followed by mounting criticism of the current owner accompanied by a softening of attitude towards the previous owner, with many of his 'crimes' being explained away or even forgiven. Oh, hang on a minute... that's what happened when Paul Ragan took over... deja vu, anyone?

I realise that all this bad press is doing Ice Hockey in UK no good and we (The EIHL) must be the laughing stock for the rest of the worldwide hockey community at the moment Why is it who ever has owned the steelers has always had financial difficulties (with some of the allegedly dodgdy owners below) Bob Phillips Darren Brown add to the list if you want!
The only owner who I recollect being good for the Steelers financially was Norton Lea...hate him if you like but he made things financially sound!

Like hell he did......he left the club in a mountain of undisclosed debt. He ran Chesterfield FC into the ground and tried to finish the job Darren Brown started!!! George Dodds is the only owner that has left the club financially sound, but then he was around in the days of weekly sell outs so was making money hand over fist.

I smell a rat here......
Paul Regan blames everyone for losses, puts Rinkcorp into admin. Blames old coach to alienate the Steelers fans. Holds fans forum in Cardiff and tells them he will spend more time with them and all is well financially, although Steelers have used all the money.
Appoints old partner in Rinkcorp (Tony Smith) as Team Manager/Owner? (but Regan still owns both teams?
Sheffield fans are happy because they think they have got a local businessman now running club = Fans come back to watch Steelers
Cardiff fans happy that Regan is back just looking after them = Fans come back and support Cardiff
All seems orchestrated to me to ensure fanbase of both clubs are happy.
Call me a cynic .........
