Now I'm not saying get rid, just yet, but I've always wanted a fresh face as our coach, someone brand new to this country who's hungry and wants to make a name for themselves. To many sloppy defeats with no turn around in form, somethings got to give.

Deffinatley.
We've committed to a young coach who's new to this level. He's bound to make mistakes, he's bound to have problems he's never faced before. We've played some really good hockey and shown a lot of promise (admittadley only in small parts recently), to appoint a new coach and then not give him time to do it (and remember it's a steep learning curve) would be ridiculous.

Mike is perfect as far as I'm concerned! Seriously though folks you gotta stick it out, I agree entirely with Kim. He will come good, you mark my words. All the coaches this year are relative newbies, the old guard has gone, time for a new breed. We are the same with Dave, we had a very shakey start but he is working it out now,You got off to a flyer and have come unstuck, but your start tells us what you are capable of, Mike has to figure out how to get it back. And he will.

With due respect roygbiv, thats not what is written. You wrote " I've always wanted a fresh face as our coach, someone brand new to this country who's hungry and wants to make a name for themselves" which suggests that you think Ellis isn't hungry to succeed. You either think that or you cannot phrase what you want to say very well...?

It's just dissapointing and something has got to be put in place. If we are saying we're trying our best, we have to except we are not league contenders....at present.

So Ellis is brand new to this country,I don't think so. What on earth does that prove? So what if Ellis isn't new to British hockey, it doesn't mean he; A) isn't a good coach and B) wont do well for Panthers. We're in a bad slump and it's time for Mike AND his players to work hard and hopefully, the tide will turn. Axeing our coach now doesn't mean a new coach will come in and be any better.

He's probably going to have to make some tough decisions that won't please a lot of people but I think he'll come through for us.

I gave Adey two years, i'll give Ellis two years.
In my eyes however, he's done as many things wrong as he has right so far. The excellent start has been completely wasted now.

Well it doesn't matter now does it? We're out of the cup, not going to win the league, and at this rate may only scrape the play offs.
Let's all be good little Panthers fans and pay our money for the rest of the season though, and give them all a big winners cheer on the 60th anniversary.
The good streak at the beginning of the season was purely down to us having been on a training camp and the other teams not being as prepared as us. Now they are, we're being shown for what we are. How many times at the start of the season did we go behind only to come back and win? It seems the comebacks were purely down to fitness, and the reality of it was us going behind.
And I really think the people who give standing ovations to the players when they've just played absolutely tripe are what causes the general apathy and mediocre mentality at this club. I'm not saying they should be booed, but a clap and cheer should be earned.
Well that's it for another season - roll on 2007/2008. Great.

But we're not going to win the Challenge Cup are we? Or the league, because Belfast are running away with it. Unless they get a load of injuries and all the other teams slip up massively - which they can't ALL do, because they have to play each other, and somebody has to get the points!
Who's Kev??

It might not be much consolation but I think Ellis is a good coach and is just going through a bad spell, he still worries me as a Steeler, by which I mean I think he might bring you sucess in the not too distant future.
After all, back in the inaugral EIHL season in 03/04 the Steelers, under the then "superhuman" Blaiser, lost 5 games in a row (well 6 if you ignore a crossover game and include the subsequent OT Loss to the Panthers) but eventually went on to win the League. I know the likes of Belfast and Coventry are stronger these days but your chances of making a comeback into the title race are still good.
I guesss we'll see after your next game!

Wow, im suprised its took this long for a thread of this nature to appear. Personally i think this is crap, a month or so ago ellis was hero, now people are questioning his ability as a coach. we're only two months into the season people. We've had one good month, one bad one, theres still 5/6 months yet and we're just having a bad spell. Mike Ellis has had success in the past so clearly must know something about this lovely sport so am sure between him and calle there aware of what the major issues with the team are and how they'd like to correct them. I'm not saying they will turn it around, but hey, give them chance, Mikes only been here 2 months at least give him chance to make some changes and if things havent improved by say christmas then yes i'd say you have reason to doubt his appointment as coach, but for now, have a lil patience eh?
