I was on my way to the announcers box when the goal/ no goal incident happened. When Hecl was jumped i was approximately a block away from it on the same side. Jeez he wasn't jumped he was checked and cleanly, same as the other one when the manchester guy decided to submarine on the hit and stry and send simoes over the top. simoes is an alright fighter hes not going to get rag dolled anyway ashe is so strong perhaps Tambo would like to see a video of simmer fighting someone bigger. He causes damage with those slick checks not only due to his strength its more down to timing and technique. Roll on next saturday for episode X of ` the train is coming` Remember Tess, Maltby, Sutter, keep yan heads up.

You don't seriously think Simoes has a chance against some of the heavyweights in the league do you? I reckon Voth, Clouthier, Cruickshank, Darby, Ferone Gomez, Campbell and even Payette ( well maybe not him) would murder him Tambo And why have him take those on when you have a heaveyweight in your team, personally drew a pen from daft campbell , i heard he d have prefered to go as it would have meant serious retribution from Smhyr, now that could have been messy, don t worry Ryan will get him next time. Do you actually read postings or just the first few words ? I mentioned gomez and campbell from my team. I said that Simoes would likely get a pasting from one of the heavyweights, did not specify which one. Anyway we will see just how hard Schmyr is next time as Boniface has probably guaranteed him and Gomez will go after stopping them last night Tambo

They both looked perfectly fair checks to me, just a shame that Hecl got injured, but it's hockey & it happens. OT was a definite goal, absolutely no question. Regardless of whoever had the upper hand in the game, we was robbed, pure & simple.

It's not a case of who wins that's important it's being prepared to get stuck in each time when you know the other guy outweighs you that counts. Most of these guys have probably run into each other regularly over the years. Our guys tougher than yours is, Na, Na, Nana, Na ;D

I agree Pete. All fighters take and dish out beatings over their time, it's part of the job.
And I can put the 'Gomez was scared to fight Shymr' argument to bed. Niether of them were that bothered about dropping the gloves last night. Fighting is in part to do with getting everyone going, players and fans alike. That late on it would have been pointless, whereas this way the PR machine will be able to swing in to action for your next encounter.
How do I know? I asked him, his reply 'too late, no point tonight, next time'
Nobody is 'scared' of anyone really, it's just that some players are prepared to give or take a beating for the sake of the cause. Most of them however are playing smart this year IMO and going for goings sake doesn't seem to be happening. Make a statement, stick up for a team mate ala the Phoenix player that took a beating from Cloots after he ran Wolfe, or do it to get everyone going - yes; go for no real reason? I haven't seen it this year.

Tambo, Simoes hits, and he hits bloody hard. I dont think anyone can consistently hit as hard as he does in this league, its his game.
Players have got to keep their head up. If he was standing 3 feet from the boards or 6 feet from the boards he should have been awaiting a check and been braced for impact. IMO it was a clean hit and if (as Boniface thought as well) that was the case then you cant blame Simoes at all. Whoever it was lost their concentration and paid the price.
Sorry to focus on the fighting side again but you say Simoes wouldnt stand a chance again Campbell... if that was the case why did Campbell feel the need to blindside him... that was the injury risk. Not the original check. I thought he was a fighter... not the next Payette.
Ill repeat again though, its still good hockey last night, last couple of periods we were back on form and hopefully reverse the result against Hull on wednesday

I honestly think it was a rush of blood by Campbell after seeing Molin take one to the head. And as I said, got the penalty he deserved. Simoes is a tough checker, no doubt, but i honestly thought both of his hits that caused the problems last night were reckless. Tambo P.S. also agree it was a good game last night, not a lot between the teams on the night. Despite what the kiddies say on here, i do not know if it was a goal or not. did not see it. heard arguments for and against, but would lean towards it being legit. Tambo, two of our players are guilty of cowardly attacks while Campbell's blindside on Simoes is "what any player would do." Blatent double standards weakens your arguement somewhat, reducing it to the usual one eyed opinion of many hockey fans. Personally I couldn't say whether Simoes' check was legal or not, therefore I won't comment. Panthers were poor in the first ten minutes of the match but thereafter were the better team, Wolfe once again putting in a stellar performance in goal. Boniface in my opinion should be given the boot, his ego is far too large for his position. Panthers won this game deservedly in overtime with a puck which was clearly over the line. The goal judge was sure and the body language of the Phoenix players on the ice said as much, but Boniface who was what, twenty to thirty yards behind the play rules it out. Arrogance personified.

Simoes throws a handful of proper checks every game, and I've not seen one complained about by player, coach or official. In fact he was quiet in the game last night. I guess in this case the opinion of the minority must be right. Steve Simoes GP 8 PIM 20 Ryan Shmyr GP 8 PIM 27 Derek Campbell GP 9 PIM 78 Robin Gomez GP 6 PIM 48 Either of the two Phoenix players has more PIMs than the two Panthers put together. Six games from Gomez and he has more PIMs than Simoes and Shmyr over a combined sixteen games. After yesterday Campbell has twice the total of the Panthers pair. Go figure. It rather takes away from the goon argument being used. I wouldn't relish being in either Gomez or Campbell's skates next time the teams meet. Their best chance is to hope Wolfe is on form (again!) and the game remains tight and our "goons", as they have all year, have the game result uppermost in their minds. If the goal margin is significant in our favour and the game is won, the "My Dad's bigger than yours" arguments will be settled. You don't have to worry about that. As the man said, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death etc".

Same one as you Pidge, btw nice to put a face to the name even if it was from a distance. If there were still draws then a draw would have a fair result, but since draws don't exist then I think, my opinion, that Manchester just shaded it for the extra point. Although I do feel you was robbed with the OT goal. Don't forget Pidge... everyone sees a different game. How can we nearly deserve to lose a game when we nearly doubled their shot total?!?!?! It's odd because I nearly choked when I read in the Evening Post today that Edinburgh were a defensively-orientated team. If by firing 39 shots on Lindsey was defensively-orientated by the Capitals, then I hope i'm not in the building if Edinburgh ever go hell-for-leather and break into a more offensively-based game. If I recall rightly, didn't we only muster 31 shots on Stephen Murphy? As Helen says, everyone sees a different game.

Edinburgh's plan looked to me like one of using their speed and stick-handling skills to disrupt whatever offensive plays we made, then to exploit any gaps left and go on the counter-offensive themselves. A good plan, one that suits their roster perfectly, and one that worked. Why on earth we didn't play to our strengths and bodycheck the lot of them into the middle of next week, I don't know.... oh well. Good team, good plan, well executed - Edinburgh, I mean. They played defensively in the middle of the ice and then turned it to offence. They played to their strengths, we didn't.... simple as.

One point Tambo(Youve got your hands full as it is with the other guys lol), Hecl has played NHL, he should know better. The guys whove posted on here about him not being ready for the hit play themselves and have it drilled into them every week how to take a hit, he was not ready, Simoes's hit was clean hence boniface not calling anything. Its a good example for their coach to use to show how NOT to take a hit even if hes played the puck!
Gomez and Shmyr was disappointing really, 2seconds to go, getting kicked out anyway, why not just let them go?! I cant see Rees or Shmyr taking the P/Shots so why not go and get it out the way! As for Simoes as a fighter, id say middleweight, maybe could have gone with Cambell because he was wound up but I wudnt like to see Gomez go to town on him tbh

not posted yet so just thought i will put my two penneth worth in, sorry if its coverd, scrolled through twelve pages but theres a lot there.
I think form the second period the panthers from pre-rouen were back, i felt good about the lads and it was a pleasure to watch.
I think if we started the game the same i feel we would have trounced them, but itwas not to be im afraid, manchester were playing well and they had a decent enough first period to get the lead.
As for for the reffing well theres enough allready on that so i am just going to say it was unfortuante and once again highlighted the need for more trianing for the ref's and linesman, one frsustrating thing i find is why have a goal judge if the ref wont consult him on decisions, at leat then even if they do disallow it they have gained as much detail as possible.
my bit over, bring on Hull!!

We are all entitled to our opinions and I suppose we are all guilty of seeing through our own colour of specs. Nothing wrong with a good debate. Without the passion we have for the game, it would be a pretty dull place. I too have played a bit in my younger slimmer days and yes I agree you have to be prepared for the hit. Basic rule number 1. I still maintain he had come out to play out of defence, which is why he was off the boards. Phoenix play the puck out of defence a lot more than they clear the zone. ( Something that wories the beejeezus out of me sometimes). True he did not see him coming, but IMHO it was not a legal hit. One good thing after the fact is that he is not as badly hurt as was first reported. Bit of bruising but he is a tough guy and hopefully will be fit for the weekend although Friday in Belfast may be a day too soon. Interesting post script to Gomez v Schmyr............. When Gomez was asked why he and Schmyr didn't get it on he said " Too late, no point, next time" Probably referring to the fact that neither really wanted it at that stage and also give the clubs a chance to hype it up for the next meeting.... Cynical eh !!! Simoes v Campbell, not seen Simoes fight but Campbell is not overly impressive in that department, could be interesting and I reckon it could happen, although not to the detriment of the result. Talk soon Tambo

from what ive seen of Campbells fight card and fights hes no heavyweight, him and Simoes would be a good fight but theres no way it would be a definite win Campbell. there are probably three light heavies in our league who could on a good day give a heavy a run for there money, Robinson Simoes and Campbell. at 6,3 and 210 Simoes aint going to be majorly outsized by anyone and he can definitely hold his own in the fighting department.
good to have people who support different teams on the forum, especially Pheonix who i probably would support second to Panthers
