Tonight's Results:
Blackburn Hawks 0 Whitley Warriors 3
Sheffield Scimitars 3 Solihull Barons 5
Billingham Stars 8 Wiidnes Wild 1
Solway Sharks 7 Nottingham Lions 2
After a long journey north of the border the Lions started this game at a good pace and at one stage were 2-1 to the good in the first but ended up tied at 2-2. In the second the Lions held out until the 29th min when the Sharks scored there one and only goal of that period to make it 3-2. The Sharks 4th was scored at 53.42 but possibly having an eye on the second leg in Nottingham the Stars increased the pressure on the Lions net and possibly as our guys tired a further 3 goals were scored for a comfortable 7-2 scoreline. Holding the top team was always going to be a tall order the Lions nevertheless certainly made the top club work damned hard for the result. As expected Louie Newell (broken nose) did not make the trip for this game and may not be available for the home fixture which is a big loss for the team.
Period Scores: 2-2/1-0/4-0
Scorers: Zachary Yokoyama 1+1, Luke Thomas 1+0, Thomas Dermott 0+1, Alexander Cleves 0+1
Second leg on home ice with a face off at 7.00pm.

Tonight’s Results:
Whitley Warriors 18 Blackburn Hawks 2 (Aggregate score 21 - 2)
Solihull Barons 6 Sheffield Scimitars 2 (Aggregate score 11 - 5)
Widnes Wild 3 Billingham Stars 2 (Aggregate score 10 - 4)
Nottingham Lions 0 Solway Sharks 7 (Aggregate score 2 - 14)
A game tonight well controlled by the 21/22 league champions whose overall experience was just too much for the Lions. Solway in more ways than one have proved to be worthy champions who will now seek to achieve the double by adding the play off title to this year’s honours. We wish them well. The Lions 21/22 season is over and what a fantastic season it has been with a newly built team around a nucleus of a limited senior cohort and they surprised a number of well experienced teams with their fast and furious approach to the game. Well done the Nottingham Lions for both a fascinating and exciting season. Thank you to the media team who worked tirelessly to raise the profile of the team. Finally a big thumbs up for the coaching team and all of the bench officials for their tremendous work over the season.
To Paul Glossop a huge well done as he takes on the head coach role for the EIHA England u23s team with Matt Bradbury in reverse role of assistant to Paul, go to it guys!

Fantastic season and well done to all involved. Felt bad for them having done so well for 40 minutes last night to struggle in that 3rd, but Sharks clearly a cut above all season. No shame in defeat.
Good luck for next year!

Congratulations to Solway on achieving the double adding to their league championship the play offs, what a great season, virtually unbeatable this season. The Lions were one of only two teams to beat the Sharks during the 21/22 season.

It is looking like the majority of last season players will be back in the black and gold. Great to see that, although interesting other clubs, top points man Zachary Yokoyama has signed for the 22/23 season.

The Nottingham Lions commence their 22/23 season on 4th September with an away trip to last year’s NIHL 1 runners up the Whitley Warriors following that up with a home game against last season’s League champions, Play off champions, and later the National champions the mighty Solway Sharks. Following the visit of the Sharks the Lions have two further home games against the Widnes Wild, NIHL 1 Cup champions, and the Blackburn Hawks. Home games on 11th, 18th, and 25th September. A rebirth of the Deeside Dragons has occurred and they have been accepted into the NIHL 1 Moralee Division. No doubt Widnes Wild will lose some players as a number of ex Dragons players moved across to the Wild on the demise of their hockey club. Certainly a busy start for the Nottingham Lions against some really solid performers.

The Nottingham Lions commence their 22/23 season with an on the road trip this Sunday up to Hillheads to meet the Whitley Warriors. During the latter end of last season the Lions achieved their only win against the Warriors in a real tight result here in Nottingham. The Warriors were runners up to the all conquering Solway Sharks last season and will, as usual, prove an extremely tough opening fixture for our guys.

Following the long trip to the northeast the Lions began their season against David Longstaff’s Whitley Warriors. Hillheads is o tough venue for any team and the Lions began this game hoping to keep it tight and a 0-0 first period looked to be a very promising start. In the second period the Warriors opened up the scoring but the Lions continued to make a game of it but slipped to a two goal deficit. Towards the end of the second the Lions scored their first goal of the season with Jack Crowston taking that opportunity supported with assists from Toby Fisher and Zachary Yokoyama. The second ended with the Warriors just one goal ahead and all to play for in the third period. The third period proved an exceptionally tight affair but with no goals scored the game ended with a 2-1 win for a possibly relieved Warrior team. A good opening game but sadly the points stayed up north. MOM the Lions goalie Luca Sheldon.

The Nottingham Lions first home game of the season is against Martin Grubb's last seasons league, play off, and national champions, the Solway Sharks. Last season the Lions were one of only two teams to get a win against the Sharks but on meeting them in the play offs this led to the Lions short lived play off series as they fell both home and away. Given the Lions position in the league there was little to no chance of toppling the eventual champions. The Sharks have strengthened the line up for the 22/23 season with a number of new additions to an already formidable line up so the Lions will definitely have their work cut out to gain points from this encounter. Should be a good work out for the guys and a game well worth watching. Face off projected for 5.30pm on Sunday 11.09.22.

Having had great difficulty in picking up scores from around the EIHA leagues at present due to some changes that are apparently in the pipeline? Anyway I have managed to get things reasonably up to date regarding NIHL 1, so here goes.
Saturday 10 September: Solway Sharks 6 Billingham Stars 1 Sheffield Scimitars 1 Blackburn Hawks 5
Sunday 11 September Whitley Warriors 4 Widnes Wild 3 Billingham Stars 4 Sheffield Scimitars 1 Blackburn Hawks 3 Solihull Barons 4 Nottingham Lions 1 Solway Sharks 8
Games this weekend: 17.09.22 Sheffield Scimitars v Billingham Stars Solway Sharks v Whitley Warriors
18.09.22 Whitley Warriors v Solihull Barons Billingham Stars v Solway Sharks Nottingham Lions v Widnes Wild (Face Off 7.15pm)
The Solway Sharks are determined to retain their triple championship achievements of last season dealing blows to both the Stars and the Lions in their first two games of the 22/23 season. Tonight will prove a real interesting encounter as last seasons second placed team the Warriors travel up to face the Sharks. On Sunday the Lions face the Widnes Wild here in Nottingham with the Lions hoping to get their season kickstarted. Having met both the second and first placed teams in NIHL 1 the Lions will be up against the third placed team from last season and, interestingly, a team the Lions failed to take any points from during 21/22. Widnes Wild, in their first outing of the season, fell to the Warriors by the tightest of margins so they will be looking to get their first points on the board whilst carrying on with their winning ways against the Lions.
Well done Nottingham Lions Two who beat the Sutton Sting 6-5 this afternoon. Some of the eligible Lions One team played in this game. This is a very good win against strong opposition.

Tonight’s Results: Whitley Warriors 4 Solihull Barons 2 Billingham Stars 0 Solway Sharks 5 Blackburn Hawks 6 Sheffield Scimitars 3 Nottingham Lions 2 Widnes Wild 5
A real hard fought game in more ways than one with a bit of rough and tumble plus a few goals but with Widnes maintaining their winning record against the Lions tonight. Period scores: 0-1/0-2/2-2 (The Wild’s fifth an empty net goal)
Goals for the Lions scored by Tom Dermott and Zak Yokoyama. Noted that ex Nottingham Lions goalie Miles Finney was between the pipes for Widnes and certainly kept his team in the game as the Lions outshot the Wild tonight. A disappointing night for the Lions but the season is young and this team will continue to battle for and gain points as the season progresses.

Games this weekend in NIHL 1:
Sunday 25.09.22
Billingham Stars v Solway Sharks Solihull Barons v Sheffield Scimitars Widnes Wild v Whitley Warriors Nottingham Lions v Blackburn Hawks (Face Off 7.15pm)
Just been reading up on the NIHL North Facebook and noted a certain amount of venom being directed towrds the Lions coaches after comments from last weekend's game against the Widnes Wild. Obviously rather sore regarding the meeting last season between the Hawks and the Lions which became rather overheated leading to some major bans being handed out to the Hawks. The bans were later challenged and reviewed with the penalties inflicted being significantly reduced. It would appear that offence has been taken regarding some veiled comments and possible solutions regarding the standard of officiating. It would certainly appear that feathers have been somewhat ruffled up north with the writer feeling that action should be taken against the coach following his comments. Having watched the supposed offending youtube offering following the Widnes game I personally felt that there was nothing that has not been intimated by other team coaches over the years so what is the writer's problem. Whether this a call to arms for the Hawks team I do not know but lets hope the published grievance does not affect the on ice performance of both teams in tomorrow's game, I somehow doubt it. Face Off projected for 7.15pm.

Tonight’s Results:
Widnes Wild 1 Whitley Warriors 8 Billingham Stars 5 Solway Sharks 4 Solihull Barons 7 Sheffield Scimitars 1 Nottingham Lions 8 Blackburn Hawks 1
Solway Sharks suffer their first loss of the season at Billingham.
The Nottingham Lions achieve their first win of the season with an impressive 8-1 result against the Hawks. The shots on goal in this game speaks reams as the Lions put 76 shots on the Hawks net to only 14 against. The game certainly got somewhat chippy at times with a number of complaints from the Hawks regarding the decisions against from the officials. No matter, game over and two points in the bag.
Period Scores: 2-0/3-1/3-0 Scorers: Connor Glossop 2, Jack Crowston 2, Zak Yokoyama 2, Max Hurst 1, Tom Dermott 1 No game sheet on the internet to pick information on assists etc as the new system from the EIHA is not operational as yet

In theory they should be playing at a higher level with a decent sized rink and being the primary team, but they are getting absolutely mauled by the Lions. I don't think even Panther's worst CHL games saw shot counts like 76 to 14.

They played with pace, intensity and passion. It was a great game
