Sheffield Senators 3 Lions 3. A game Lions were chasing for the three periods and went into the final period 1-0 down. Sens made it 2-0 before Stuart Parker on his debut scored to make it 2-1 Luke Branin then scoring to make it 2-2. Sens went ahead again and Green was pulled for the extra skater. Green had to return to his crease before being pulled again. at 59.46 Michael Rose scored the game tying goal. Dan Green stepped into this game as Sam Gospel took an injury in training on Friday. Good to have Dan Green agreeing to stand in and thanks to Corey for allowing Dan to play it made a big difference and gave Dan a warm up before returning to the Panthers later. Well done guys a point definitely won.

Solihull Barons are making their bid for the top spot having defeated Sheffield Senators 3-2 at the Hobs Moat last night. Although Senators lost they still have games to play against both Deeside and Solihull and these could be crucial should Lions suffer a reversal in fortune. The Lions have 3 more games against the Barons and 2 against a Deeside team who appear to be getting stronger has the season progresses. The Lions take the trip to Deeside this coming Sunday before meeting the Barons at home on the 27th January both games will be fiecely fought as the end of season honours are there for the team that maintains form to the last game. The banana skins are there in this league as the Lions found out by having defeated Kingston 8-0 at home and then lost to the same team 5-3 later in the season. Complacency will get punished by the lowest of the oposition if allowed.

The Lions have a long tough journey to Deeside, weather permitting, to face the Dragons. They are having a very good run and a failure to get anything from this game puts Deeside in top spot. The Barons go to humberside to face Kingston and a win for them could put them on equal points with the Lions if the boys come back fron Wales pointless. Lions do have games in hand but as we all know it's the points that count at the end of the day spare games have potential points only but still have to be won. The top teams are all going well and it is the ones that hold their nerve and grind out the wins that will head to Div 1 next season. If this game goes ahead then good luck guys.

The Lions hit the road to Deeside today. It was a bit touch and go regarding weather and road conditions but it looks like game on between first and second in the league. A difficult one to predict as the Lions came from behind to grab a point on their last visit and Deeside have strengthened their bench since that game that they thought should have been a win for them on home ice. The Dragons will be looking for top spot of that there is no doubt and with the travelling the Lions may be at a disadvantage, we shall see I guess? The Barons secured the points away at Kingston last night and they are actually one point behind the Lions as they prepare to visit the NIC next Sunday. On their website they are encouraging fans to travel and to bring a large contingent of Barons supporters for this crucial game.

Lots of games being called off due to actual or threats of bad weather conditions. Senators game is on at Sheffield as the guys from Blackpool are on their way. The Lions are confirmed as on their way to Deeside. Blackpool or Fylde can make their game but Trafford called their game off against Sheffield Spartans at Sheffield due to weather? Might be that they face off later? Safe journey to all travelling teams.

It was worth it for the Lions as they beat Deeside 4-2. A long cold journey into Wales but hell of a lot warmer feeling coming back with that win under the belt. Scorers Flats, Leon, Baverstock, and Branin. Thats 2 wins and a tie against the Dragons and they have yet to make their final visit to the Lions Den this season. The Barons to come so big home game with a good size crowd for this top of the table clash next Sunday. Well done guys and a safe journey back.

Forgot to mention the new/old signing. Welcome back to our very own Alan Levers back in the nets and what a game to line up for on your first outing back with the Lions. Apparently had an outstanding game and an early tweet already gave him MOM so must have seen and stopped some rubber tonight. Great return for a nice guy and not a bad nettie, what a combination!

I actually went to the Deeside vs Lions game. It was much more entertaining than most EIHL games i've been to lately, lots of hitting and a level playing field.
Despite this, Deeside controlled the play for most of the game, the Lions took advantage of almost every mistake and effectively stole the win. The Lions goalie stood on his head, he was fantastic and won the game for his team.

It would appear that a number of Deeside fans and players feel that they had actually been robbed of a win in their recent meeting with the Lions. The fact that the Dragons conceded 4 whilst replying by scoring 2 appears to have eluded them and clouded their collective consciousness. I believe they had about 3 shots per period more than the Lions, actually slightly more as they took 10 more shots in total over the whole 60 mins. They have the opportunity to put matters right very soon as they shortly return to Nottingham for the final battle this season. This should be a cracker as the Dragons will want some pay back.

Looks like a good size crowd on the cards for the Solihull game at the NIC. The Lions have got to come up big against a strong Barons who are also looking to moving up next season. This is round two of the four game series. The boys had a hard time at the Hobs Moat but came away with a 2-1 win. It will be interesting to see Perry Doyle back in Nottingham against a couple of the local ex Panthers in Simon Hunt and Stuart Parker. The Barons have an ex NHL player in Chris Allen who played for Florida Panthers. Again a tough one to call but should be really entertaining.

Deeside have put last week's disappointment behind them and got the win 6-3 at Fylde so still in the chase and plenty to come for the top four in this league. The Lions have got to stay focussed in every single game as it is still tight at the top. Fylde although still not getting the wins are stronger as the season progresses and Kingston can still cause major upsets on their night.

Nottingham Lions retain their healthy lead at the top of the league having beaten the Barons 8-3 at the NIC tonight. Joe Wightman with a straight hatrick in the first period to add to his tally of goals and assists this term. Perry Doyle managed a goal for the Barons and Stuart Parker got his name on the scoresheet as well. I must admit I did not see this one coming expecting a much tighter game. Whether the larger ice took it's toll for some of the old timers I do not know. The Hobs Moat ice pad is definitely tighter, more like the old barn in Nottingham. Not much else to say apart from well done the Lions and keep it going!!

It would appear that Deeside are happy with tonight's result but tweets from some Solihull people are beginning to heat up with coaching being picked out for some attention as well as stating that the Lions were just too strong for the Barons on the night. Might be some questions being asked back at the Hobs Moat in the next few days? It is a fact that at their barn they are a hard team to breakdown as the Lions had already experienced earlier in the season. The next game down there could be a complete reversal to that seen up here tonight but of the four game series the Lions are now two to the good with two to play. Deeside still to come at the NIC to claim their first win? Well that's precisely what they will seek having tied one and lost two in there four game series. More to come I'm sure but must bask a little, that is until the next game!

Speaking to someone on the Solihull side of things after the game, I was basically told - the Barons simply didn't play the right game. They tried to dominate the Lions physically, and mainly went with 2 lines, the 3rd line getting a lot less usage. The Lions out-skated and out-played Solihull, rolled 3 strong lines, and didn't fall for the Solihull provocations. Better skill, better discipline, better coaching. Better team. That's a very good win for the Lions, and keeps us up at the top of the table with a 3pt gap (and 2 games in hand) over Sheffield and Deeside, and a 5pt gap (and 1 game in hand) over Solihull. This has been a good night all round for Nottingham...

It looks like Perry Doyle is somewhat upset judging by his recent tweet."why a girl as a linesmen that's why they are called linesmen they are men". "The refs were a joke". Did say that fair play to the Lions as they played well but the Barons did not. Then the big follow up threat "Wait till they play at Solihull they will not win". Perhaps he has selected the officials for that one or are they intending to just resort to bully boy tactics, hopefully not with the intention to injure I hope. The Barons lost fo whatever reason probably known only to them and it is up to them to put it right in a hockey sense without veiled threats that does both him and the club no favours. So he felt that the officiating was bad, setting aside the sexist comment, but does only that account for the loss, I think not. This is the second week where the losing team has had more to say about either their oponents inability to contain them whilst still losing the game (Deeeside Dragons) or the quality and gender of the officials (Solihull Barons). They lost those particular games so really they should accept whats happened and get on with the rest of their season. The Panthers are not the most popular team in the Elite League and it appears the Lions are losing a great deal of popularity in their league as well. It's tough when you are at the top for any team it goes with the territory I suppose? Semi rant over for now!

A couple of important results tonight from the Lions point of view. Both games very close, Deeside Dragons winning 6-5 at home to Kingston and Solihull Barons winning 9-7 at home to a much improved Fylde Flyers. Even lowly Fylde are really making a real impact in that they are running the top teams quite close in recent games. The Lions have a tough away game at Fylde before the end of the season on their ice cube sized rink. The immediate attention for the Lions has to be their last meeting of the season at home to Deeside next Sunday a game the Welsh outfit are desperate to win given the Lions 'luck' in previous encounters. On their website it was quoted that 'if the Nottingham Lions fell into a pit of turd they would come out smelling of roses'. The other classic quote being 'after forcing the Lions to score 8 on the last visit for the boys to narrowly lose 8-6'. This last quote relates to deeside's only visit to Nottingham this season. Deeside certainly need the points as Solihull and Sheffield are breathing down their necks. So this might be an absolute classic.

Yes, it's another top-of-the-table clash again this Sunday for the Lions... we're only one point ahead of Deeside, although we do have 3 games in hand. Still - the last thing we want is to be knocked - even temporarily - off the top spot. Hopefully Simon Hunt will be OK to play, but even if not this should be an entertaining match. Pity I'll miss it (over in Riga with the GB supporters).
But please... since there's no Panthers hockey this weekend at all, please come on down and cheer on the Lions... ti's only £5 (less for kids & students) and you can now book tickets directly with the NIC (on 0843 373 3000). Face-off scheduled for 7:15pm (may be delayed slightly).

The top spot is at stake in this Sunday's clash of the titans as The Dragons arrive at The NIC to draw the Lions claws. They are desperate to put the Lions in their place namely behind them in the league. Deeside have spent money in putting together a winning team and it is an affront to them that what they consider an amateur outfit who pay big money to play should be showing them the way this season. The Dragons intention is to put the Lions in their place in this final meeting this season and also take the Lions 100% home record away from them as well so let battle commence. The Dragons have got their season back on track since being visited by the Lions and even managed a very creditable tied game with the high flying Blackburn Hawks from Division 1, a game they came close to winning. The Dragons are presently the highest scoring team in the league and very capable of racking up the points as there offence is pretty formidable. The Lions have really got to turn up for this one otherwise their dominance on home ice will be dented. The rest of the season presents many more challenges with all of the opposition seeking to take the scalp of the Nottingham Lions.
