Well that was quite good fun- the first time I've ever seen the Lions win at Sheffield, and the first time I've seen a Sheffield side lose on that ice full stop! Have to say I was very surprised at how short their bench was. I do wonder if the EPL site "on a shoe-string" is meaning that their local Brits are playing there instead of in the ENL side, and that everyone is being pushed "up" a level to compensate. I never remember us going there with a bigger bench than them.
So the game was: 1-1/0-4/1-3.
Lions got four goals in 12 minutes in the second period to go 5-1 up and never looked like losing from there on, in fact, it should probably have been a couple more. I thought all the face-cages played very well again; Weldon, Soar, and Bowley all scored one each and racked up a couple of assists. Danny Rose is showing signs of being a good prospect, too. Keeps the Lions in second place, but more importantly we're now 3 points ahead of Blackburn (instead of one) having played a game more than them. I don't expect us to get anything at Whitley Bay in a few weeks, but if we can make sure of the points at home to Northern Stars, Telford, and Trafford in December then we should go into the Christmas break in a good position.

Lions won 5-3 against Northern Stars last night. We made hard work of that one!
Don't get me wrong, Stars are a good team, it's just that too often they beat us to the puck where usually we'd get it easily.
Stars went 1-0 up, then the Lions equalised. Will Weldon got the Lions 1st to tie the game. 2nd Period goals were scored by Stewart Bliss and Ben Bliss on the PP. Third by Ben Bliss & Will Weldon. One of the Lions' goals apparently was a shot that went off the ref, and allowed Ben Bliss to score as the goalie was out of position.
Stars' final goal was a bizarre one, Lions were on the power play, and the puck came loose. Stars #7 (I think) got the puck on a break away and as Alan Levers came out to collect the puck he lost an edge and fell, leaving the Stars player to score SH into the empty net.
We'd turned a corner - we've now put together a winning run that's bought us up from 6th to 2nd, but we have to play a lot better if we're going to stand a chance of getting anything from Whitley Bay next weekend!

Apologies Rich - my phone lost network connection at the end of the game, and I was positive that I posted the score here as well as on THF! Lions lost 6-3.

Lions have returned from Telford with a 2-0 win, and the first shutout of this season, and a second Lions career shutout for Richard Griffiths. I was hoping to post period scores but couldn't get connected via 3G, and the wireless network I was using blocked The Cage!!
First ended 0-0, 2nd 0-1 with a goal from Callum Bowley after just 40 seconds of the 2nd, and Nick Whyatt sealed the points with a goal part-way through the final period. Griff got a well-deserved Man of the Match award.
This was a proper team performance, and although we're still a bit below our best, we did what we had to do and every player had a better game than last weekend!
We have another weekend off next weekend - and we're back on the ice on Sunday 23rd when we face the Trafford Metros.

Nottingham Lions are back on home ice tomorrow night to take on the Blackburn Hawks.
Last weekend saw the Lions in Blackburn with a very short bench - so short that goalie Alan Levers played as a forward!! The Lions hung on and came back from 2-1 down to win 5-3. Tomorrow will see the Lions almost back to full-strength and we're hoping that the game will be as exciting as it was last weekend.
As there's no Panthers game, if you've always wanted to take in a Lions game then face off is 7:30 (doors open about 7:00-7:10).
Tickets are £5 adults, £4 concessions and £3 U-16.

can we do a swap with you guys? let the lions face blaze on tuesday, we might win I'm not sure that will help!! Lions faced Blackburn Hawks last night and we lost 6-4. We were 2-1 up at the end of the 1st, and 4-2 at the end of the 2nd before the Hawks scored 4 answered to take the points. All 4 Lions goals were scored on the powerplay in a game that saw over 100 PIMS between both sides.

Tonights game finished 8-2 to Warriors! Lions scorers were Joe Wightman (after just 2 mins!) & Nick Whyatt. Dunno about the Warriors, but I do know former Lion Adam Robinson got the last.
Not a bad result for a Lions team who went to the North East without coach Martyn Etheridge and with a short bench... Well done to u18 Elliot Perrin who made his Lions debut with only about an hours notice!

And it's 4 points for the Lions!
Missing the influential captain Chris Colegate, the Lions came out somewhat tentatively in this one... the first period was scoreless, with both teams having 11 shots. Then it got a bit interesting in the 2nd period...
The Northern Stars go 1-0 up, then we equalise. We get a second goal and later on they equalise. Then Ben Bliss (who got Lions MoM) gets a sneaky one just after a face-off with 16 seconds left in the period. Somewhere in that lot there was a perfectly-good goal for us washed out (ref saying he blew his whistle before it crossed the line - cobblers did he!) and a Stars goal washed out for a high stick (no idea on that one!) plus a fight (although it got called 2+2 for Roughing) and I have no idea why it started!
Lions went 4-2 up in the 3rd, but the 8-wins-in-a-row Stars were always looking dangerous... and then they pulled a very clever and very sneaky move... they pulled the netminder with about 4.5 minutes left to go! (Might as well - with the game being played for double points, even a draw would get them 2 points). The teams had been fairly closely matched all game, so this definitely gave them the advantage... and all the Lions could do was to keep icing it - no line change so our boys were getting more and more tired (3 or 4 icings, I think). Eventually, though, a clearance attempt bounced off the side boards and headed towards the net... and the Stars' player racing after it just couldn't make up the distance. 5-2... the eventual final score.
A slow start to this game, but it definitely picked up after the first period. And a good (double) win for the Lions... who are now joint 2nd in the league (although we have a better record against Coventry, so would take 2nd place on that tie-breaker).

Lions visit Altrincham for the first time this season as they face the Trafford Metros on Saturday evening.
After a mixed bag of results the Lions are hoping to consolidate their playoff position against the basement dwellers Metros.
The Lions should be back to full strength this weekend, although the game will see the return of League-winning coach Mike Urquhart behind the bench for this game only.

HOME DOUBLE-HEADER WEEKEND FOR THE LIONS COMING UP!
It's going to be a busy weekend in Nottingham. Not only are the Panthers playing Friday and Sunday, but the Lions have their normal Sunday match (also against Sheffield - let's have a double win!) plus the re-arranged home game against Trafford Metros that got cancelled due to snow.
The big news? The Saturday game is in the main arena. ;D
Yes, that's right - the Lions will be in the Olympic Rink as usual on Sunday, but on Saturday 5th March, we will be facing off in the NIC main arena at 7:15pm. So you can still get your Saturday night hockey in Nottingham - and in your usual arena! We know that many Panthers fans have wanted the Lions in the main arena so they can give Lions hockey a try in their preferred surroundings - usually this just isn't possible, but this time the NIC have graciously given us The Big One! ;D
So - as many of you as possible, please come down to the Lions on Saturday night - only £5 for adults, £4 for students with NUS card and £3 for kids.
And as a bit of an incentive... any adult attending the Saturday game will be given a £1 off voucher for the Sunday game against the Sheffield Spartans (face-off at 7:30pm).
It's going to be a mad, mad weekend of hockey in Nottingham. So come along and be as nutty as the rest of us!

Great news, I should be up for this. Can you bring your own Beer in? I'm sure the NIC wouldn't condone anything like that... But the T&D will no doubt be open, so you can get your beer there (don't drink the stuff, so don't know what they serve).

Boycott the Beer at the NIC mate, over priced Knats P. Will there be many SSsec there? smuggle some in.
Would much rather watch this than the 20/20 BS
