How come we have no info from last weeks 2-2 draw at Coventry? Because I've had a busy week with work and other stuff, apologies but life kinda got in the way this week. I was not in a good mood when we got back on Saturday and was definately not in the right frame of mind to post on a forum! However, not a good display from the Lions last week. We started well - Joe Wightman scoring SH after just 90 seconds. Lions were on top and Joe doubled the lead with around 90 seconds to go in the 1st. From then on things just didn't go right and eventually Coventry equalised with a goal in the dying minutes of the game. No-one was happy with the performance last weekend, and the team have been addressing the issues and hopefully this will mean the team turns a corner and starts playing as we should. On to this weekend - the Lions again face the ENL Blaze on Sunday, and as the Panthers are away please join us if you're not heading to Wales to see the Devils game. We'll be looking to stop the rot thats set in and will be up for the game this weekend - we really need a good win to keep us at the top of the table, and to bring back some confidence to the team. As always we're on the Olympic pad, face off 19.20 (but will probably be more like 19.30) Tickets: Adults £5 Students (with NUS card) £4 Kids £3

Are there plans to update the lions site anytime soon ? Was just looking for fixture info and its a year out of Date. It was due to be updated fully a week or so ago... but I found out this evening that there have been a few 'issues' getting that sorted. Apparently, if all goes well this should be sorted out very shortly (perhaps even this next week).

And the Lions won at home tonight, beating the ENL Coventry Blaze 4-1. One of our U18s, Will Wheldon, got MoM for a sterling performance that included two goals (one of them a very sweet shorthander). Rich Griffiths was very unlucky not to preserve his shutout, but the Blaze got a 2-on-1 and our D-man took the shooter, not the pass... and goal to Coventry. Other than that, it was an impressive performance all round by the Lions... were it not for the Coventry netminder (who deservedly got MoM for a whole series of cracking saves) the Lions could have doubled their tally easily.
The Lions' Nick Whyatt was carried out after a nasty check from behind (unpenalised) in the first period and took no further part in the game. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery...

Heard from Lions' coach Martyn earlier on. Nick has been released from hospital after having a brain scan. However he doesn't remember anything after yesterday lunchtime. Has concussion so will be out of the game for a few weeks.

Ticket Offer For Sunday 29/11Nottingham Lions are pleased to announce the following offer for this Sunday's game against Trafford Metros. Any Nottingham Panthers Season Ticket holder, or anyone with ANY ticket from Sunday's game vs. Cardiff Devils will gain entry for the Lions game for only £3. If you've always fancied watching the Lions but never been able to, or just simply haven't got round to it yet then now's your chance! Normal ticket prices are £5 for Adults, and £4 for concessions so there will be a small saving for anyone who would like to continue their hockey fix on Sunday evening. The game is due to start at 19:20 on the Capital One Ice Rink (or Olympic pad!) but can be delayed if the junior game over-runs. Lions have a 100% record so far against the Metros, but they will be bringing a different team to the NIC this time round so I'm sure we'll see a hard-hitting, fast passing game. If anyone wants any further information about this, please PM me or email nottinghamlions@gmail.com.Look forward to seeing some of you there!

A tidy win for the Lions last night - beating Trafford Metros 6-2. Some good goals, including yet another short-hander by captain Chris Colegate, and it was also The Attack Of The Face-Cages as Will Wheldon, Tom Soar and MoM Josh Ward all netted as well.
Two other results from around the league were good for the Lions as well... Blackburn Hawks leap-frogged the Metros in the lower portions of our division by beating Sheffield 4-1, and the ENL Coventry Blaze beat Whitley Warriors 4-1 as well.
These two surprise results plus our win puts the Lions on top of the division, 1 point ahead of Sheffield (and we have a game in hand over them as well). The ones to watch, however, are Whitley in 3rd... 7 points behind, but with 4 games in hand over us. Many people are tipping Whitley to take the league title this season, with the Lions and Sheffield fighting it out for second place, so last night's results could end up being crucial.

A good performance last night, one that saw a level of intensity that I've not seen from the Lions for a few weeks now. We're almost back to our old selves! Coupled with the surprising results from Whitley and Blackburn then it was a good night..! Also the website is now available at www.nottinghamlions.comIt's still a bit of a work in progress, there's some pages missing and some links to still be sorted out but it's mostly up to date. There will be a forum as soon as we can get it linked, but we'll still be using The Cage.

As I posted on the Spartans section of the Scimitar's Fans Forum, you lot must be laughing yourself silly at the results from ourselves and Whitley. We have struggled all season to put away sides like Coventry and Blackburn and this was just one of those weekends!! Whitley have had a poor run in the Northern League and it seems to have rubbed off in the ENL, but the long spells with no ENL action must make it awkward for them. We could have a problem period shortly as the Scims will be losing 4 players on GB duty and one assumes some Spartans players will get the call up and miss some ENL games. Let's hope that by the time the so called big 3 get to play each other again it is still competetive at the top.

Trafford made us work for our win and it took some high quality play at both ends of the rink to beat them. Last night they did us a massive favour and came back from two goals down to beat Sheffield 4-3. Their return fixture is tonight. All this means that going into tonight we have two games in hand on Sheffield are are two points ahead, meaning that to take full advantage we need to beat Telford - no easy feat given how physical games between the two teams have apparently been this season. Should be a good one

Interesting results this weekend as both Sheffield & Whitley lost last night. Sheffield got beat by Telford 4-3 and Whitley lost at home to Trafford 5-2.
Lions have 3 games in hand over Sheffield, and we're a point in front of them now. Sheffield have now lost 6 of their 19 games. Whitley are in 3rd, played 12 and have 17 points, losing 3 and tieing 1. They have 4 games in hand over the Lions.
Meanwhile the battle at the bottom continues. Kingston are rooted to the bottom of the League, and there is starting to be a battle between Trafford and Blackburn for 7th spot and Div 1 safety! My sources in Blackburn are telling me that the season is coming together now, they've put a nice run of wins together in both the League & Cup and the team are starting to gel together.
Lions return to League action this Sunday as they take on Kingston Jets for the first time at the NIC this season, before heading to Telford on Sunday 27th December.

A reminder that the Lions are at home tonight... with the Panthers going up to play the lads from Hull, the Lions are hosting - the other lads from Hull!
And if previous encounters are anything to go by, the officials and penalty-box attendants are going to have a busy night... Kingston are not known for their discipline.
The Lions have been temporarily knocked off the top of the league by Sheffield - but not to worry, it's only by 1 point and we have 4 games in hand over them... Although we can't take any team lightly, not even basement-boys Kingston, I think a +35 goal diff. for us and a whopping -84 for them could possibly be an indicator as to how things might turn out tonight! ;D
So if you're not making the trek up to Hull, come on down to the Lions... face-off in the Olympic Rink should be 7:15pm - 7:30pm (depends on junior games beforehand), tickets are £5 adults, £4 students, £3 kids.

As far as we know tonights game is still on.
The Jets left Hull at 3.30 and we've not yet been informed that they're not going to make it. If you're planning to come then please do so, if the game does get cancelled we'll let everyone know ASAP!

Not the greatest game of hockey that I've ever seen, but a 4-2 win for the Lions and another 2 points is nothing to sneeze at.
The Lions can possibly be somewhat forgiven for a largely lacklustre performance against the basement team, given that we were missing several senior players (McEwen, S.Bliss, Parker and Whyatt that I know of) plus the U18s... but even so, going into the dying minutes of the game tied 2-2 was a little disappointing. Still... we got the GWG and then an insurance empty-netter, so the title attempt is still on track.
No home games now for the Lions for 4 weeks - Sunday 17th January, no less - but a couple of away games (Telford and Kingston again) so they shouldn't get too rusty.

It was a good win against a Kingston team that was tough to break down, but we stuck at it, and on another day we may not have got both points. That it took so long to get the GWG with the Jets offering little in the way of offence but plenty in the way of PP opportunities was quite frustrating, but worth the wait. The Jets are a curiosity, in that their away losses have generally been much closer affairs than their home losses, which probably explains why it was so tough for us.
From my vantage point the Jets fans were a bit animated about a few of Blaine Evans' calls, but I thought generally he had a good game. I like that he will call players aside and tell them to pack it in rather than give penalties for handbags round the crease, which he would be perfectly entitled to do.
There didn't seem to be the greatest crowd there, but even so there appeared to be a few people at their first game - I'm guessing it was their first game because for the third time this season I was asked a fairly simple question about the game. That is not a criticism - in fact it's the opposite as I am glad that I could help people understand hockey a bit better. There clearly are people out there who are new to hockey but still willing to give the Lions a go (and I saw one of the newbies from before at this game), let's hope that one day they can all turn up at the same game and give our home support a boost.
