To be honest as a long term panthers fan i would love other teams to hate us because of our success in the trophy cabinet but alas that is not the case it seems that we are disliked because of several other factors none of which are because we are a dominating club in terms of trophies.
1. Our owner is a success in his chosen business and is growing the fanbase in Nottingham (no matter what you think of his inter fan skills this is a growing fanbase for him and that is with the lack of league success) which is in stark contrast to pretty much every other club in the entire country, not a surprise there is a tinge of jealousy given the panthers stability.
2. Our owner was the target of most of the venom aimed at the league (and is seen by alot as a leading figure in the league) when teams were leaving and/or prevented from joining.
3. People think he has alot of interest in other clubs in ice hockey and as such there is a possibility of influencing which direction the league moves in and possibly results to help other teams under his stewardship. Also this may have a green eyed element as well in that the rumours are he put in money to keep Hull afloat but for example not Manchester...
4. Our management/coach... now i am far from a GM apologist but i cannot see where all this talk of arrogance has come from. Yes i agree as far as his own fans are concerned he has criticised our "little forum" and in the program he has criticised our home fans for not supporting the team etc but i cannot find any published article where he has openly had a go at other teams fans or belittled them. NB has published articles where he has stated his views on teams and leagues but this has never as far as i know extended to teams fans nor has it extended to criticising other teams players or abilities (it seems to be limited to where he would like ice hockey and the Nottingham Panthers to go and perhaps poor management and how teams are run). How this can be deemed arrogant i dont know. CN on the other hand arrogant as they come and self confessed with it and as a fan it makes me cringe but surely this is taken with a pinch of salt and used against him by other teams coaches? It isnt like he has a league winning record so surely it isnt taken that seriously is it?
Finally 5. Other teams are saying the panthers fans are arrogant a la steelers of the 90's... now i may be blinkered here but i cant see it. Yes we expect to beat teams such as Hull Edinburgh etc but surely that is not to be surprised at with a team with asperations (and the budget) to win the league is it? Surely this is the same attitude from the likes of belfast and coventry fans isnt it, are they accused of being arrogant? In football teams if a squad is put together on the budget of Man U and played the likes of Hull City with their budget wouldnt they win 9 times out of 10?... not arrogant but just expected given the extra quality that should be available with the extra money... As a panthers fan i have seen my team put out a team of mediocre quality against some stunning teams but this has reflected in the cost of said teams and the panthers of the 90's didnt have the budgets of the likes of sheffield and manchester, now we have this isnt arrogance to expect to spend it but imho its years of paying my dues watching other teams splash the cash...
Oh and finally if other teams dont like it do what the panthers did...

Of course, one of the amusing things about that thread on THF is how more than one poster has called us arrogant... and then in the very same post gone on and slagged off one of the other teams for being 'boring' or suchlike... which seems to me to be a very arrogant attitude.

Good blog Jono
I don't hate any team and want all teams to do well off the ice so as Ice hockey has a strong future in the UK....... That's why when teams have financial problems or teams drop out of the league I would never be one of these fans who get a kick out of other teams demise. In my opinion As fans in a small league like the EIHL we should be hoping clubs do well off the ice and that the league grows in strength.. I'm glad this year we our now back up to 10 teams, and would like to see other like Manchester back in the EIHL again as well..
I voted for the Blaze on the thread on THF, Simple because of their recent success over the Giants on the ice... We have came 2nd to the Blaze in the league 3 times now, but im hopeful that will change this year...

On the THF poll is there an option to vote for all teams apart from Panthers?

Dont know what you do for a living mate, but you`re wasted at it whatever it is!! You should be a script writer for some of our so called comedy programs that invade our tv`s today

Coming to TCW this evening will be the first column from our new weekly columnist Greg Mitchell. Greg will be giving his unique, controversial and somewhat angry viewpoint of all things UK hockey. It should be quite a read!

You might be right Jono but then again how often have we said give the guys time to gel etc etc and by the end of that time its just too late?..
The teams that win leagues dont get time to gel they are professional enough to not need it.
If a player is underperforming why should we as fans pay for that?...

If a player is underperforming why should we as fans pay for that?... Under performing by who's criteria though? The armchair critic who has never laced up a skate or the qualified coach?
