Yeah any sport that has people wearing padding has to be merde. Real hockey players play on grass then. Read what you want to read. Padding is fine, but to the extent that they wear it? It's stupid. I'd enjoy gridiron a lot more if they'd just get on with it without their dances and their 48 breaks per quarter. The NFL player plays less than 100 games in his career. The hitting is brutal and bodies don't last long. Rugby Union, not so much League, is a non-contact sport. I do agree the game could be speeded up. 3 hours to play 60 mins is too long. Having said that the ball is in play for around 50 mins in football, for around 10 mins in tennis and I doubt it is in play for more than 20 mins in a days cricket.

I do like the concept of American Football but i just don't have the patience to sit through X amounts of advert breaks and so on. You can't compare cricket and american football either, they're completely different sports. The hitting in hockey (considering they play 6 times as many games a year) is at least equal to it yet the padding is minimal by comparison. I suppose the one thing that really bugs me is the dancing. So you've done a tackle or a sack, so what? Don't do some kind of embarassing dance, get back in the line-up you girl!

The hitting in hockey is not comparable. Which is why players can player 100 games in a season. Also the padding and protective gear are used as offensive weapons and so make the hits far harder. Ask a rugby player like Martin Johnson about what they make of the physicality. Also hitting happens to almost every player on the pitch on every play whereas most sports it happens only to the player with the ball/puck. You're right about the breaks. Which is why I watch most that's recorded from the night before on Ch5 or on a live delay via sky+. Fast fwd makes all the difference.

A fine and much needed win tonight by the Bengals to make it 3 on the bounce against the Baltimore Ravens. Had the Ravens won they won the division but we kept it alive and turned some momentum, especially as the Ravens only got their one score in the final two minutes of the second half!
The Raiders up next when anything but a win will be totally unacceptable and then three HUGE games at the Colts and Broncos and the unmentionables of the same name as the unmentionables from up the M1 at Paul Brown Stadium.
Four wins required but I can only see us getting three (a win in Indy would be a miracle) so here's crossing all fingers that that will be enough!

You may have handed Pats the bye week. I hope KC and Denver get the wildcards because they deseerve them.

Denver? Uh-uh!
Denver don't deserve anything, they were highly tipped and have massively underperformed, the Benglas have slumped but only lost one game by more than one score (against the pats) on top of having one of the three hardest schedules in the entire NFL! (that's official and was pronounced so pre season).
KC have certainly done well and deserve a spot but the Benglas are more deserving than the Broncos!

Staggered that sky haven't chosen the Prats v Miami.
Is there anybody in the NFC who can win the SB? Or is the AFC Championship game the real SB?

Just to add a random comment, I became a fan of the NFL after my Canadian mate was telling me how good NFL 2K5 was.
He didn't lie. Started playing it, just as I enjoyed some early NFL games back to 1992 except this time I could get NFL on my tv. To make matters more interesting, a work colleague of mine is from Chicago and I became an honourary Bears fan in the same way he became an honourary Nottingham Panthers fan.
Now I'm hooked on proper good this time, and the Bears are doing pretty well.
It's all about Brian.

The Bengals have totally stuffed it up, we don't deserve a play off spot the way the offence has bottled it in games we should have won. There's a long list of games we've botched with Denver being the tip of the ice berg. Very annoying.

Missing the point after is just basic football andy. Shouldn't happen in college football let alone a pro league.

I tell you what Andy the Bengals have shot themselves in the foot more times than every other team in the NFL this season. You got every result going your way for a wild card and still get a delay of game penalty on a potential GW field goal. The kick gets moved back 5 yards and you miss it. Unreal.

The Bengals didn't deserve to make the play offs. They aren't very good. Like the Jets.
Eagles to beat Giants. Hawks to beat Dallas.
Pats to destroy Jersey. Larry Johnson to beat the Colts. Just.
Which means
Eagles @ NO Hawks @ Chicago
Pats @ Baltimore KC @ San Diego.

Brave prediction on the Chiefs to beat the Colts 'beam. Can't see it myself but I have been wrong before, more than once.

Painful to watch, that's all I can say. Sunny to say the Bengals aren't very good isn't a fair comment, they are good, they have contrived to find ways to lose. Don't forget the Bengals had the thrid toughest schedule in the entire NFL this year and would have qualified for the play offs by winning just one of their last three games anyway. We didn't deserve to make the play offs because we botched so many games we should have won (Bucs, Falcons, Ravens away, Chargers, Broncos and Steelers home) but to suggest we aren't very good, especially after the way we beat Baltimore (should have won both games but for a shocking call by officials) and hammered New Orleans, just isn't true.

I'm amazed the Patriots didn't kill off the Jets quickly yesterday, although I don't think Brady & Co were ever in trouble against NY. San Diego next sunday

I just don't rate them. I put them in the same class as the Jets. If they were in the NFC they'd be potential SB contenders. God I hope SD eliminate the Pats. That would make my weekend. All 4 games are tough to call this week.

i really have tried weathcing the NFL, and cant for my life work it out, i like the look of it, but whats the best way to pick it up? Learn the most basic of rules and then just watch it. The tv panel will help you learn the details. It's quite simple really. Shin, The SB is your's. Last hope is Indi but i have little faith. Sigh.
