Not sure if this can be a sticky but just so everyone knows, the NIC telephone booking service fee is now up to £2.25 per ticket.

£2.25 PER TICKET as a 'booking fee'?
Re-arrange the following words into a well-known saying or phrase:-
'rip what off a'
I don't care if "everyone's doing it" (a phrase we've heard before as an excuse) - this is a total disgrace.

They've been doing it for years Shaggy. I've tried in the past to buy tickets by phone and by net and I'm staying tight on this one, I won't pay it. Have you ever used your credit card to buy tickets on the day? There's a nice CC fee there too. For me it's simple, if I can't buy the ticket from the booking office, I won't go. That doesn't mean I'm not a real fan, it just means that I will wait until it reopens. As it happens I don't think I can make the the two openers so what I've said can only be judged as hypothetical. Same here Martin. I pay cash at the box office. Won't get my tickets any other way.
I don't think it's morally wrong for them to charge for credit cards or for phone/Internet/delivery bookings etc. it's just a service that they charge for, the market will determine what rate they can get away with charging, that's capitalism for you. Same goes for the cash machine at the NIC that charges you to get your money.
I choose not to pay for any of these services though. I'd rather go to a cash machine in town, then buy my tickets with cash and save my money.

I have just been on the Arena Website and it quotes "Bkg Fees: When booking on line or via the 24 hour hotline £1.50 per adult and concession ticket & £1 per bronze under 14's ticket, when paying by credit or debit card."

Booking fee of £1.50 for each ticket plus £1.50 per order for postage gets you to £4.50.
Not sure that that's changed from last year.

Plenty of cashpoints in, and on the way to, town. If the Panthers/NIC/Holding company can make a bit of extra cash, and people are willing to pay it, then fair play to their business strategy. I personally won't pay it, but I don't condemn anyone that does. Generally I don't carry cash. Panthers matches are the example that I have enough to cover travel, ticket and a the odd cold beverage Martin

Yup £2.25 per ticket, and what cheesed me off is that the first two games you can ONLY get the tickets over the internet or the phone. Not via Box office....
Think I will give it a miss....

That's not how I understand it Doughnut.
I think they're doing renovations on the bar/box office that will be finished by the first game, but not before.

They're gonna loose customers that way. What kind of (non sell-out) event doesn't sell tickets on the door? I'll be there an hour before face off & if there's nobody selling tickets I guess I'll be missing the game and they'll be missing my money.

eh? That's not what I said.
As i understand, the bar and box office are closed now, but will be open for the first game, meaning you can buy a ticket on the door.

Frankly, this is profiteering by the NIC. However, they aren't alone. Ever tried to buy gig tickets via Aloud.com or similar? Same thing. That's why Pearl Jam got so miffed at Ticketmaster. But that's a whole other story.....
I wrote to the BO last year enquiring why the charges are so big. I got basically a poor reply, but the gist is, " we get charged and we pass it on". However, what they are passing on is much more than the cost. For a start, the firm I work for charges LESS to pay for things over the net and by phone to start with. It's miles easier, more secure and cheaper for us to process it, that's why. The charges are 2.5% of the amount or 25p per transaction for us (Credit cards charge by %, debit cards by pence). On £30 of tickets, that is 75p or 25p. Chuck them in an envelope and post it, you have an actual cost of around £1.50 for the whole lot, I would suggest, as a maximum. Much less if you pay by switch/visa debit. We are being ripped off, and we have no choice but to pay. The only way to avoid this is to pay by cash, or buy a season ticket.
Incidentally, is the cash machine in the NIC foyer one of those that charges you to withdraw your own cash that you have lent the bank? Another "revenue stream" for the NIC.
Bottom line, to stop getting ripped off, you must go in person and pay by cash. Sadly, and to quote Bruce Hornsby, that's just the way it is.
