i am very looking forward to this season and we ARE going to win something. This has been said by Panthers fans every Summer. I've even predicted grand slams! Fortunately this year Panthers fans seem not to be getting too excited and falling into the 'best roster on paper' trap. It may be a great team. It may blow. We don't have a Scooby.

Too be fair to Madmarc, I too was hoping the signing of our last forward would be a stand out player, hopefully a sniper. I said to MP the other day that our roster would be a genuine team for once (how many times have we asked for team effort but only got individuals?!) but it doesn't fill me with confidence regarding winning silverware

After the last few years, I think the only thing that will give me any confidence of silverware this year is a lead at the top of the table in January. Until then it's one game at a time. At least it's looking like they'll be entertaining games this year though.

Well if our first line is what we predict, they scored plenty of goals last season.
Perticko - 20 + 34 = 54 - EIHL Stevens - 21 + 27 = 48 - Germany McAslan - 28 + 28 = 56 - ECHL.
We have PLENTY of goals there and dont need an out and out sniper.
Take Cardarelli for example as a sniper. He did very well to score 29 goals but contributed nothing to the team for the other 59 minutes of the game. He may aswell not have been on the ice. It was nearly like being on a Pentaly Kill. He didnt check, work back for the puck.....
Hope fully these guys will do all this.

Thing is guys, hes not got great numbers because they are AHL seasons. Anyone with a lot of games in the AHL is a very good player, you dont hang around there long for the sake of it.
When hes played ECHL hes been around .8 ppg, Nothing wrong with that!

Im happy with this guy...28 goals last year on the east coast is no mean achievement and shows he definately knows where the net is at the level required, and he is only 26. He also got 12 goals then 6 while playing 4th line AHL.
Personally im more concerned with the D than the forwards, if you take Petricko, Stevens, Mcaslan, Clarke they are all 20+ goals a season players (or should be) at this level. I feel Simoes will contribute well also.
That Stay at home dman is now needed.

I ve said numerous times on this thread, before poeple say ` i was expecting a sniper` He was a 4th/checking line forward, he had a precific job to do, and that was to put the opposing forwards off their game. When he drifted briefly back into the ECHL he put up decent figures, as Rich said. Coaches have puit their faith in Mcaslan over his short career by giving him the chance to get into the NHL via training camps. He was also a shock when he didn t get drafted at juniors while doing well for the Calgary Hitmen

Looks like a good signing to me.... and definitely fitting in with Mike Ellis' overall style for the team. Decent size, not too OTT on the penalties, plenty of AHL experience, looks to clock the points up quite nicely.
Mike Ellis looks determined not to repeat last season's mistake of relying too much on one or two players for scoring. Granted - Tessier is a superior player and was an absolute joy to watch.... but look what happened when we lost him. Derailed our train quite effectively, didn't it? Looks to me like the various duties are going to be shared around much more this season.... so if we lose one particular player to injury for a while, we're not going to lose all our scoring or checking or playmaking. Which, of course, means that when we're at full strength, the opposition are going to find that we're rolling out consecutive lines capable of scoring or playing havoc...
Makes sense to me. Now just to see if it works! ;D

Last year we had two players who came from AHL with quite modest figures from playing specific roles ie penalty killing. Cote and Welch and both proved themselves more than capable of putting numbers on the board at EIHL level and playing on a top line, think McAslan will be a great aquisition. One thing is for certain we arnt going to get bullied around this year the average height of the team must be around 6ft 2 as compared with 5ft6 last year

happy enough, I can see why he has been touted as one of our 'better than Tess' players.
Looking forward to the new season

So that's Sean McAslan is "Better than Tess" that I have been "hearing" about?

Id imagine so. It was said that 2 of our team would be better than tess... The suasage bar evening Mike Ellis said one was Rod Stevens and the otehr was yet to be signed.... I cant imagine the other one being a D man

The D can be better than tess. he might me a goon with 300+ penalty mins a season. he will knock out tess and then their whould be no tess that game and then everyone will be better than tess.
But somehow i dont think that will happen

I found this about him... Sean McAslan Signs NHL Contract
March 06, 2001
The Edmonton Oilers have reached an agreement with free agent forward Sean McAslan on a three-year contract.
The 21-year-old McAslan was invited to the Edmonton Oilers training camp in September, where he suffered a knee injury that forced him to leave camp. He has fully recovered and is enjoying his best season yet with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
Edmonton Oilers Assistant to the General Manager Scott Howson says, "Sean is a gritty player with good speed. He will fit into the system very well and the expectation is that he will develop into a player that can contribute at the National Hockey League level."
The 6'1", 190-pound native of Okotoks, Alberta, has spent the last five seasons playing for the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. Found HERE!So by reading into that he should of made the NHL and if it wasn't for the injury may well of done. Looks a good one!

My main concern about Sean McAslan is as quote from Nottingham Evening Post
Aggressive, feisty....would that means a lots of trip to Sin Bin or to be throw out of the game due to Game Misconduct.
Shall look forward to that!

I quite like the sound of agressive & feisty, sound like a sort of Graham Garden player to me - something I think we've been missing for a while. Someone who'll get under the oppositions skins, wind them up.
