13/07/2006 signings Eric Braff D to Basingstoke Bison from Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL) I was told this about Braff; " very good stay at home d- man...no offense, but will hit in the corners."

New signing Justyn Schollar
Excel Hull Stingrays coach Rick Strachan believes new signing Justyn Schollar has all the tools to adapt to life in the Elite League. The Canadian-born forward has spent the last two seasons at English Premier League Swindon. The 24-year-old proved one of the EPL's most deadly snipers in 2005-06, finishing with 75 points, just two behind returning captain Jeff Glowa. Strachan believes Schollar will have no difficulty adapting to his first season in the top flight. He added: "Justyn's not scared, he can skate, he has all the tools, he's young and he'll get better every game." At 5ft 10in and 170lbs the left winger is not the biggest of players. Hence, Schollar has been signed for his points scoring ability, not for an enforcing role. Strachan explained: "He's fast, aggressive and scored a lot of goals last year. He was one of the big reasons why Swindon were successful last season. "Justyn will finish his checks, he's not a killer, but he's a complete hockey player. He impressed me last season." Glowa was Stingrays' top points scorer and topped the fans' poll for forward of the year last season. Strachan had no doubts he wanted the club's 30-year-old captain back for a third campaign. He added: "Jeff can do everything - score goals, plays good defence, kills penalties and plays on the powerplay, he's a great player to have. "He knows our organisation and what it's all about, and he wanted to come back." The duo arrived in Britain for the 2004-05 season on working visas, which expired after the last campaign finished. This season they are work permit players, although Stingrays are still pursuing the paperwork trail for Glowa's Polish relatives. If they are successful, Glowa will be able to acquire a Polish passport and, as a European passport holder, will no longer require a WP to play in Britain. So far, the paperwork has been traced which proves Glowa's grandad's brother emigrated to Canada early last century. They have yet to unearth the documentation to prove Glowa's grandad - Roman Stefanyszyn - left Poland around the same time. The pair's signing takes Stingrays' import contingent up to nine, leaving one space to fill with less than a month to the start of the new season.

Matthew Craig joins Capitals defence 18th August 2006
Edinburgh Capitals are delighted to announce the signing of defenceman Matthew Craig for the 2006/07 season in the Elite Ice Hockey League.
Matt has spent the last four season playing for Yale University in the NCAA Division 1 where his stats were comparable with last seasons defender Neil McCann.
Tim Taylor, Head Coach at Yale University and former Head Coach of Team USA, said," Matt played for me at Yale University for 4 years. He is an offensively oriented defenseman, who should be well suited for the European game and he should be comfortable on the large ice sheet. He moves the puck well coming out of the zone, and is effective on the offensive blue line. He has decent grit in his own end, and will be responsible defensively. His judgement is solid and he plays with good awareness in all three zones. He is a left shot, and plays both left and right sides. He is effective on the power play. He would be very successful in the East Coast League and certainly has the skill to succeed in the UK."
Mike Gartner, former NHL Player for the New York Rangers and Phoenix Coyotes and Hall of Fame Inductee commented, “I have watched Matt play for Yale the past four seasons with my own son Josh and have been impressed with his vision of the ice. He has a long panic point with the puck and doesn't get rattled under forecheck pressure. He has a good ability to sense danger and know when the puck needs to move. He also has a very good ability to get pucks through from the point and also has a good quick snap/slap shot in those situations. I think he would be a good addition to any power play.”
Scott Neil, Edinburgh Capitals General Manager " Neil McCann proved that he was an exceptional player coming out of the same league and I fully expect Matthew to make an impact on the EIHL this season."

Kiesman injury forces change of plan
Thursday, 7th September 2006
Manchester Phoenix hopes of including Mike Kiesman in their playing plans this season have been dashed by a close-season injury.
Kiesman, who coach Tony Hand was delighted to have signed, suffered torn Anterior Cruciate ligaments just days before leaving Canada to join the assembling Phoenix squad in Manchester. Hand noted, "Mike was a player I very much wanted to sign and I knew he would play a major part in our team this season. Sadly, that won't be the case now, at least not in a playing capacity."
The Phoenix coach added, "When Mike called me, he was really upset at the thought of letting everyone down and asked if there was any way he could come and still play a part in what we're trying to build in Manchester. Neil Morris and I discussed what could be done and with the flights already booked, Neil showed exactly what this club is all about by agreeing to Mike coming."
Morris remarked, "It's just another little hurdle we've had to overcome and just like the others, we'll adapt and get on with the job. In terms of the team, we've added David Vychodil to replace Mike on the playing roster so; the strength of the team is unaffected. Tony spoke very highly of Mikes' character and so we decided it was right to bring him in as he can certainly play take an unofficial role not only around the team as a non-playing member of the squad but also as an off-ice ambassador for the club in public relations and supporters club events."
Mike Kiesman commented, "to sustain the injury was bad enough, to be told I would miss the season was even worse as I know what Tony is trying to build here. I just wanted to try and play my part and it's a tremendous gesture on behalf of the club to bring me in and I'll do whatever I can to help out and repay the superb welcome I've been given here already. It would have been very easy for the club to say no to me, they haven't and for that I'm extremely grateful, it shows what a class act this club is going to be."
