Another week yet. Apparently it's to coincide with a new league sponsor.

I've heard a rumour of an Edinburgh double header for Panthers on 23rd/24th September, but I guess not 100% enough to book flights!

14th August is release date, have heard from several Belfast friends that our 1st match is 9th Sept at the Oddysey against the Giants, apparently they have been informed of their first few matches.. Flights are not very cheap now as it is too soon.

How ridiculous that they cant announce the fixtures!! I know they cant be sure about the Cardiff/Manchester fixtues but if our first fixture IS Belfast away, then surely Belfast must be annoyed as Panthers fans dont have the time to book cheap flights so they will miss out on alot of income.....................same will happen for the Giants first month or maybe 2 months of their home games..............

if they know the fictures but waiting on the sponsor ill be right peeved I doubt that's what they're waiting for, but how would you know anyway? I guess you could just decide to be peeved regardless to make sure you've got it covered

Like you say though... no way of knowing For once though, there's a silver lining. Whose fault is the delay in releasing the fixtures? I presume the owners have played a big part! Who's going to loose out and end up with lighter pockets as a result? I presume the owners will take the biggest hit. Maybe they'll learn their lesson. Then again

if they know the fictures but waiting on the sponsor ill be right peeved Allegedly (from several sources) that is exactly the situation. Barking, but there you go.... granted, the chance of a proper league sponsor is a very good thing and something to be fought for.... but this is dragging on long past the point of reasonableness....

Thanks for the info. Which Moran's the best by the way? ... just so we're clear, I wouldn't want to go around thinking that the wrong Moran was the best

Can't honestly see what is wrong with a potential sponsor wanting to be in position before the fixtures are announced - makes sense to me. When someone is in place then a proper announcement can be made which confirms both the sponsor and the season's fixtures. Who knows, maybe that way we will even get some press coverage! OK, it might mean you pay more for a flight to Belfast on this occasion - ever heard of 'Bigger Picture'?

as pointed out though...
Whos actually gaining? Extra press coverage? From where? The only people that care would cover both anyway....
Whos losing out? The fans and clubs.
I doubt I can make a trip to Edinburgh at short notice. Same with Belfast... mainly cos of money and booking time off.
Theres also other things besides hockey I might want to book

OK, it might mean you pay more for a flight to Belfast on this occasion - ever heard of 'Bigger Picture'? That's fair enough - up to a point. If the rumours are true that the fixtures will be released at the beginning of next week - that means there will be less than 4 weeks between the announcement and the start of the season! Now I too would prefer the league to get the fixtures right and have reliable dates - I'm perfectly willing to wait a little longer than normal to ensure that. But this is going too far..... Well, if it actually is true that our first game is away at Belfast - they're going to get naff-all Panthers fans travelling over for that one... in fact, any games involving Belfast for the first few weeks could see a notable drop in travelling fans. Those trips are pricey enough as it is, even with cheap air fares. And, as Ted correctly points out, there are other events to work into the schedule as well. There's half a dozen gigs that I have my eye on - but I can't buy a ticket until I know for sure what is happening re the Panthers. I'm sure plenty of others are in the same boat, and not just with concerts or whatever.... A reasonable delay - fair enough. This delay is surely unreasonable!

But what will you do if a gig clashes with a Panthers game? You choose which you want to see more. It's the disadvantage of having a ST. It would be nice for you to be able to make that decision now before the gig sells out and makes the decision for you.

I doubt I can make a trip to Edinburgh at short notice. Same with Belfast... mainly cos of money and booking time off. Theres also other things besides hockey I might want to book I would guess that if there is a sponsor out there that they wouldn't just rely on getting info out to the same old sources. Any reasonable sized national company would have it's own PR Department and would make sure that the announcement got out to the world outside the hockey bubble. Yes, a delayed announcement of fixtures is an inconvenience to fans who want to travel but surely the wider aim must be to get the sport a higher national profile. Not suggesting ice hockey will ever be more than a fringe sport in this country but it has, even in the recent past (early - 90's) been far bigger than it is now. Maybe (probably) a new sponsor won't solve this overnight but I for one would rather see a joint announcement of new fixtures/sponsors timed to maximise any potential interest that might be out there and get some new fans in - it's no good announcing the fixtures a month or so before the first game as by the time the opening face-off rolls around, the impact of any announcement will have long gone. If all we're bothered about is inconvenience to existing fans then this sport we all profess to love is never going to go anywhere.

DarrenW... I agree with you in principle - up to a limit. My point is that I believe that they've pushed this to the limit and beyond.
And it's not just about inconveniencing us fans. When it comes to trips to or from Belfast & Edinburgh (especially Belfast) a lot of fans rely on the cheap airlines... and as we all know, those cheap tickets don't stay cheap for long - you have to book months in advance to get a decent price. Belfast (especially) and Edinburgh are likely to experience reduced numbers of away fans for their home games in the first month or so as a result of this.... and it might also affect the other teams as well to a lesser extent, with fewer Caps or Giants fans travelling.
That's gate money being lost there, that is....
